Rhino Rally February 2023

Спорт

Ride along with Mike in the 40th annual Rhino Rally. This year's race was at the "south pits" which are technically in Arizona. Rain and snow the day before the race caused the club to have to modify the intended course, which resulted in a 32 mile loop completed 3 times. The sun came out for Saturday and conditions were perfect and were exactly what desert racers dream about.
I was able to capture all but the last few miles of the 3rd loop on my GoPro, but I've included the entirety of the 1st loop along with a few highlights and fun battles on Loop 2 and 3. I finished 1st Over 50 Expert, 4th Overall Expert, and 16th Overall inclusive of the Pro Class. Two of my 3 sons were racing in the Pro Class ahead of me (Josh and Kobee) finishing 4th and 6th overall respectively.
I feel very grateful to still be able to go out and have so much fun with my family.
Thanks to the Wizards Motorcycle Club for all the effort in hosting this race.

Riding with Ammon made my whole weekend. It was so much fun. I know I had no business trying to hang with someone his age, but it really made the day a blast. He was riding so good and I just kept waiting for him to blow by me again. He's a future Rhino Rally overall winner for sure.

To think you and Kyle rode the same race back in 2002 and then to ride with Ammon is seriously an honor to our family.. 😊

It good to see you Mike! I was actually right behind you under the power line road right before the first check and for a few miles after...Man, your pace is fast! Faster than I like can/should go...But I was really hoping to make it in this video so I was really hanging it out, trying to make myself famous! lol Then arm pump and out of shape happened...and the wheels came off. But it was fun to run up towards the front for a bit. Great ride! You haul!

It was great seeing you and your brother. I had no idea you were right behind me....you should have blown by me! I thought I did see your brother kind of pulled off to the side just before starting I-15 wash. Wash I imagining that?

@@ridewithmike962 Believe me I tried to pass you! But you are just too fast...I could make some time on you on the straights-because...450-but your corner speed is so much faster than mine I couldn't ever make a pass (we'd kind of yo-yo back and forth, I'd make some time on the straights...you'd pull away just enough in the corners that I couldn't pass you on the next straight). Then once we got off the fast roads (where it actually takes talent to go fast) you just disappeared...then I got arm pump, and dropped anchor like Mike Alessi in the whoops...and got passed exactly 487 times (at least if felt like that). :) That could have been Daniel, a rock grabbed his rear brake pedal and ripped it off, so he only finished one loop. See you at knolls!

Dumb question. How many loops is that. And do you know the track beforehand? That is fast.

It was 3 loops of 30 miles. Although I've ridden and raced the area before, I did not know the actual course beforehand. It was supposed to be a different course, but due to the snow and rain on Thursday/Friday, the club had to quickly change it up and mark a course in the lower elevations of Warner Valley.

I've had my suspension done by MotoXperts, but other than that, the bike is stock and it just flat rips.

Rally with 2 stroke? Is that bad after 500

"Rally" is just the name of this particular race. It's not a Rally format, just a regular Hare n' Hound style desert race where the 2-stroke is just fine.
