So many mammal babies have such the bouncy playful nature we always get to experience with dogs. Though some of the megafauna like a rhino grow up to be adults all the while learning and can get almost as _wise_ as humans. Sometimes more.

For example, the German government approved that over the last 15 years, there were 1900 animals captured in the wild and over 800 animals brought back to the wild. Don't think it's much different in other countries. Also, there are studies that's show that's a lot of animals can't live in captivity without suffering mostly thows how the most famous (Tieger, human Appes, Elefants)

Definitely has a ton of energy just like most children.

Who knew baby rhinos could be so cute. Frisky little charger.

Imagine when this rhino is all grown up and runs over to say hello. My mother spent some time on a farm when she was a little girl during The Great Depression. She had the idea that if she picked up a calf when it was still relatively small, picked it up _every_ day then she'd be able to pick it up when it'd fully grown up. That experiment lasted less than two months. Several years later, while visiting the farm just after WWII began, my mother returned to the farm and her 'calf" trotted from out in mid-pasture to greet her enthusiastically. The cow kept putting her head under my mother's arm like she wanted her to get up on her back. The farm's owner, my great uncle, put my mother up on Elsie's back and walked them around the pasture for some minutes. My mother loved telling this story throughout her life. I heard it many times and I get a kick out of thinking about it now and a tear or two in my eye.

I appreciate the story even more now because my mother passed away some years ago and when I recall it I vividly picture my mother in her youth; both as a girl and as the young, loving and caring mother she was. In my imagination the scene is very idyllic, sunlit (low humidity because my mother hated humidity!), tranquil and like a Norman Rockwell painting.

Anything when it’s little enough is adorable. Especially normally giant and tanky creatures.

I never know if the animals are actually playing but the jumps when running made me think otherwise. They were so cute! Like he just couldn't contain the excitement and joy.

You know, I think the baby is actually having fun. He could go to his mom anytime but chooses not to. Enjoy it while it lasts. They get BIG fast.

Adult rhinos in captivity are quite gentle with their human carers. They seek them out for scratches…and treats.

@@mindrolling24 Some years ago I did a "Behind the Scenes" tour at Canberra Zoo where they gave me a stiff-bristled broom to rub the Rhino's back. He just stood there for ages taking as much as I could give. Later I watched as the keeper "played soccer" with him using one of those huge exercise balance balls. It would be great to keep one as a pet...I wouldn't get too many burglars trying to break into my place with one of those wandering in the front yard!

It was probably too cold for him to be outside. If the video was shot shortly before posted, it was already autumn, and rhinos are tropical animal.

Zoo’s typical keep their babies isolated from the public for a time. Mom is teaching it how to be a rhino in captivity and this is also time for her to bond with it. The zoo keeper is teaching baby that it’s ok for baby to trust him, the vet, and anyone else that is involved with helping mom care for her newborn.

Exactly. The zoo keeper says, that is hurts like hell when she's using her horn, and she'll barely feel anything. Fortunately she rarely charges straight at him, but he still has to be aware.

For the people saying that they think the cages are too small, a quick Google search for the name of the zoo clearly shows photographs of the rhinos outside in a much larger habitat. This is clearly just a night pen for them. A few seconds of research goes a long way.

Someone's thrilled about mastering the concept of object permanence. It's like that hide-behind-blankets-and-reappear game for human babies. This looks like basically a really exciting game of hide and seek at that age - even better you're old enough to move and do the exploration yourself so you can make the lovely people and lovely mom appear and reappear whenever you want to! Must be an exuberant feeling to realise you have this freedom having just gained life.

I swear people that work in Zoo's are always the happiest people, I know that losing an animal is devastating to Zoo keepers but they all seem to truly love their job.

What an adorable baby! He runs, plays and acts just like our rescue dog!
