Rheumatoid Arthritis Workout- With reduced load on hands and feet! 🤲🏻🦶🏻
For those with Rheumatoid Arthritis, we know that the smaller joints of the hands and feet can be affected. If this is the case- or if you are experiencing a flare- you may need to adjust your workout to take the load off these joints.
Mitch and Paul talk through and demonstrate some of the potential exercises that could be used. Drop a comment below if you've found this helpful or if you have any other things you would like us to cover! 👍🏻

I’ve found it really hard at the gym because of my RA in my knuckles especially on pull day where things require grip like pull downs and curls. I’m going to try these though

Perhaps on the more difficult days, increase your grip size by using a small towel or foam. Also using gym gloves can help to reduce slipping when gripping. Good luck and well done for keeping up with an exercise program.

Hi, there's a whole playlist here kzread.info/head/PLiCcSsSvvG88oT7_6KgGidZrfS3LRrU-t. You will need to just go through the ones that are appropriate from chair yoga to more advanced exercises. Please remember these are just generic exercises. To make sure a program is safe and specific for you, it is best to see a trusted professional.

@@bjchealthAU Actually saw it last night - all amazingly helpful. We're just in Canberra so atm, supporting your kindness from here - but will definitely share this with RA groups i know and belong to. Very much appreciate the trouble you take for all these and your goodwill.

I can't fully comment as I do not know your individual background but sounds coming from joints do not necessarily mean more damage. I think you should seek professional advice personally if you are unsure.

Pointless for me as I have fixed flexion on my left elbow and advanced osteoarthritis in my knees. I think these exercises are probably aimed at people whose RA is relatively mild or who are in the early stages but they definitely wouldn't be practical in advanced disease.

Totally understand Eve. It's hard to make something truly specific for an individual but appreciate your position. Perhaps, the following may be more appropriate for you kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y4p7rsuoYrWcf8o.html AND maybe some videos in our chair yoga series may help you think about exercise differently kzread.info/dash/bejne/aISeyc6Kg729otY.html Just search for something appropriate. Hope that helps. The best is to find a professional who can specifically tailor a program for you though. Good luck

Hi Mariselle, it is normal to be apprehensive about exercise when you have RA. Totally normal. However, exercise can be very beneficial and help significantly with symptoms of pain and fatigue. Here's a blog that you may find helpful www.bjchealth.com.au/connected-care/should-an-exercise-physiologist-be-part-of-my-rheumatoid-arthritis-care-plan. The best is to have a go and find someone or a clinic that specialises in seeing people with RA and appreciate what you capacity to exercise is like. This is a bit of a plug for our own service but that's why we created specific exercise classes targeted to our patients who suffer with rheumatic disease - www.bjchealth.com.au/exercise-anywhere

@@marisellestolz6755 not an easy journey especially with such a diagnosis. Most important is of course coming to grips with it and hopefully finding the right support network in the form of a rheumatologist, clinicians, friends, family or other RA patients. Good luck with it.
