I agree this one was tough, Rhaenys may have not been the queen of seven kingdoms but she was the queen of her house and a queen in life, plus the bad bitch of westeros, she will be missed, thank you Eve Best for playing this amazing character, you are one awsome and badass lady indeed, that said, I'am the only one in the GoT and HoTd fandom that was hoping Criston Cole eat shit and died in battle?, thats the death and villain's punishment I was cheering in this episode

The Blacks lost Rhaenys and Meleys, but she took down King Aegon who rode to battle a drunk fool, with his brother Aemond putting the nail in his coffin out of spite. Now the Greens have to cope with essentially having no King while Aemond fulfills his deepest desire of sitting the Iron Throne (if only as a placeholder). With Jaehaerys lost (not sure what's become of Maelor) Aegon has no heir. Parading Meleys' head through the streets also won't be well-received by the public (if they follow the book). Rook's Rest is a testament to the harsh reality that both Rhaenys and Rhaenyra warned against all this time. A powerful family destroying eachother with weapons of mass destruction while Westeros pays the price. And it's only gonna get worse from here.

The moment Rhaenys strapped herself to Meleys' saddle, I knew it was time. She was a true dragon rider and died like her daughter Laena wished to. Rhaenys and Meleys were both formidable, and despite the loss, they managed to eliminate a high number of greens.

She eliminated mostly soldiers of the Stokeworth's Rosby, and Duskendale armies. Armies that had pledge for Rhaenyra but struck their banners to join Aegon when Criston besieged them. Cole deliberately put them on the front to die first because they aren't trustworthy.

Nope...she should have left when she had the chance. If she really wanted to do what needs to be done for her grandkids lives, she should have killed all the greens at the coronation of Aegon last season or followed Daemons idea of 2 v 1 against Vhagar. Her non action at those moments, although noble and upright, lead to her death. The game is rigged and only those willing to play dirty end up winning.

Yes, she did. And in the books it was made more obvious that this was a sacrifice because it was a 2 Vs 1 fight and Meleys was still able cripple Aegon before dying. But the show wanted Aemond to have this grand revenge and it almost made it seem like her efforts were made in vain. These comments saying she was an "idiot" sure paints it that way.

Rhaenys knew that Rook's Rest needed to turn in the Blacks' favor, and fleeing wouldn't accomplish that. She permanently crippled Aegon and Sunfyre, leaving the Greens essentially without a King. She tried to do the same to Vhagar, because if she succeeded then the Greens would surely retreat with not only one but two dragons incapacitated. The only other two they have is Tessarion (Daeron's who still hasn't shown up) and Helaena's Dreamfyre, who certainly isn't someone suited for battle. Vhagar is their only trump card, and if she's out of the picture, the Greens are entirely vulnerable. Sadly, even a seasoned fighter like Meleys couldn't handle it alone, but it was a noble death for her and Rhaenys. It was also her penance probably for not burning the Greens at the Dragonpit in S1, which Daemon sorely reminded her of. So people need to stop calling her an "idiot" for this and that reason. When war is inevitable and there's no turning back, you fight or you die.

There's a lot of reasons that she could have done it, and it's all up for interpretation. 1. She could have been worried that Vhagar would be able to catch up with her anyway and that running was pointless. That's what happened to Lucerys. 2. She could have wanted to try and save the castle. It would look bad for the Blacks if she just left the second that things got tough. 3. She could have wanted to take out Aemond/Vhagar in order to essentially end the war. If Vhagar dies, the Greens lose their biggest weapon. If Aemond dies, then Vhagar now has no rider and nobody can use her (only Aegon's daughter could potentially bond with her and is too young to actually fight with her even if she does). She almost does it too when Vhagar hits the ground and narrowly lands on her feet to avoid crushing Aemond. 4. She may have just been done with life to be honest. She's lived a long life, she's found that her husband was unfaithful to her, her family is clearly about to tear itself apart in a civil war, and she believes that all of her children are dead. Going out like this would be the only socially acceptable way to end it all in Westeros. It's probably a combination of all of these factors if I'm being honest.

​@SeanTanktop No, there was no indication in the scene that Meleys was struggling with any injuries when she was flying back the second time. Rhaenys just knew her orders were to defend Rooks Rest, and she's a true Targaryen warrior, she didn't want to run away from the fight

Meleys: It's an honour...to die at your side. Rhaenys: (Then) it's an honour...to have lived at yours. 😭

Rhaenys was never going to get back without finishing the job. There was that argue that "why she didn't finished the green team when she got Meleys from the pit". She wasn't gonna have that arguement again. Sad to see the princess and her dragon go.

IT was really shocking. And all we knew Aemond and Vhagar were going to kill Meleys and Rhaenys. The surprise was dracarys to aegon.

Rhaenys died a dragon rider's death. You can't ask for much more than that. RIP to the red queen and the queen that should have been.

you know seeing the same people since the game of thrones era watching still house of dragon is such a joy that i would like to experience in the future. they are the same people. and I love every reaction they make all these years.

That was a heartbreaker. She was a badass to the last.

As soon as it looked like she was going to turn around for the 2nd time I was shouting at the screen "RUUUUUN". Honourable to the last. Rhaenys would have been a damn fine queen, but dammit Aemond is turning into an absolute boss this series.

I mean EVERYONE was sooo exited to see Cole fell and thought he might have died 😂😂

My theory on why Rhaenys went back the last time: We don't know exactly the full extent of Meley's (and hers for that matter) injuries when she makes the decision. Remember what we saw happen between them and Vaghar prior. It was SAVAGE So much so, we thought that was IT for a moment. Rhaenys takes a beat as she was flying off before turning back. I'm thinking at that point, both of them wouldn't have made it back to Dragonstone for certain. Her injuries could have been fatal. At that point, she makes a calculated decision like "well we aren't going to survive anyway, so go back and make it count with the last bit of life and fight we have left" to inflict damage and defend the castle.

i think it’s more to do with how she was taking a chance at taking out Vhagar. Without Vhagar the Greens lose their biggest weapon in the war since Sunfyre and Dreamfyre are severely injured or not being ridden respectively.

Honestly, i think she was ready to end it all on the battle field...She was tired of the bloodshed, felt betrayed she wasn't given the throne, and lastly, kind of like how Dany lost it when Jon Snow rejected sleeping with her the night before the Kings Landing invasion. I think Rhaenys was hurt by Corlys having bstrd sons behind her back... I think that's why they showed us that scene where she spoke with one of Corlys bstrd sons... I think Rhaenys was deeply hurt and had no intentions of returning back to Dragon Stone..

She was leaving and I think they were fine, but she looked back and so Aemond and couldn’t afford running from him. I think in that moment she decided to take a chance to finish him or die. The way she adjusted the belt showed that she was prepared to die with Meleys. And her command to attack carried some pain as if she knew.

Thing is, if Rhaenys & Meleys manage to kill Vhagar there, however unlikely, there’s a good chance that would have been the end of the war. It was a hell of a risk, but not totally thoughtless. Plus I wonder if she’d calculated that Meleys had already taken mortal wounds and would die anyway, so better to try and take the enemy with them. Like, she wouldn’t want to go on without her Red Queen anyway. Better to leave the world together. As an aside, I love how they made the fights between the dragons look visually. Really captured the idea of why it is remembered in the history of Westeros as a “Dance”.

@@neotekilla There are no more useful dragons on the blacks side other than Caraxes. Syrax is useless. Jace’s dragon gets killed by pirates, Moondancer was too small. These are the dragons they had at this time..

@@neotekilla What Dragons? Meleys was the strongest and biggest from Rheanyras Dragons Syrax and the others are way to small and could had died easily....The only 2 dragons who could had defeated Vaghar were Meleys and Caraxes but Daemon was chasing dreams in Harrenhall instead of Helping Rhaenis

Everyone, the reason Rahnese and Meleys didn’t got to the ground and finish Vehgar, is because of the Greens Soldiers; the Princess was vulnerable and so was Meleys, only to take arrows or scorpion arrows. She circled and assessed, and unfortunately a sneak attack got her. If she left, the Greens win the battle and take the castle; making Rahnera and the Blacks look weak, and won’t defend banners when the kitchen is hot. The Red Queen and The Princess fought l, and if they could’ve taken Vahgar, and Aemond and Aegon, the war is basically won. She tried to avoid her Grandchild going to war, and she went out like a champ; taking out of the four Greens dragons and possibly their King too! Still a major win for the Blacks but it came at huge cost; one she had to risk. RIP Orincess Rahnese and Red Queen Meleys.
