Thanks for a very good review of RGT! I agree that Zwift has great motivators to keep you coming back. I like the graphics on RGT and the cornering is more realistic than just crushing every descent corner at 60kph. 😂 I also like the ability to Create a race or group ride option in RGT, especially when our local races are cancelled. Something to consider for sure.

I’m using the free option but tasting the subscription version at the moment since it’s free during Covid. Have to say I like it a lot, love the realistic physics compared to zwift but it needs more structured workouts for sure. If they add more then I will likely subscribe. 👍

I tried to sign up. I setup an account on their website and tried to login using the screen app for iPad. Could not login. Want to try it but seems like I have some hurdles to overcome.

I got creat magic road, but have no idea, how to ride it. there is only option to schedule race or group ride.

I have Zwift paid in 1 year, But much like Rouvy premium in AR video run so smooth in virtual reality. You can select which country would you like to ride on map.

Have tried RGT this week, but struggled to connect my Elite Drivo trainer via BT... Seems like only BT FTMS is supported (which my Drivo doesn't support). So I needed to use a pc/laptop with ANT+ dongle, which makes my graphics a lot worse... (low frame rate, as my laptop is not very recent). I rather stick to Zwift where my Drivo is supported with BT and where I get to use my iPad..

The wrong solution is that the sensors are on the phone hard synchronization of data with Apple tv. something you want to do on your phone and you lose the sensor data. Frequent breaking of the connection between Apple TV and iPhone

I just had my first ride on RGT today, partway up Mount Ventoux. I loved the graphics and there were plenty of riders to give me some motivation to try to pass. (Not like Zwift with its constant circus of riders everywhere but not like my relatively solitary rides on Rouvy). However, it appears to me that only 4 of the 8 rides--all of which you mentioned in the video--are available for free subscribers. The rest are reserved for Premium. Am I understanding this correctly? (Maybe they changed it since you posted your review?)

Yes they did change it and now only a few routes are open for free.

Does RGT simulate road surfaces like cobble stones and others on trainers like the NEO similar to Zwift?

Not in the current version.

I like rgt it has some good features, but the one thing I don't like is rides cannot be paused to take a short break and then restarted .This can be done on kinomap rouvy fulgaz even zwift, not a pause as such but the bike will drift to a stop then the clock will stop as well . Obviously not in events and races

Is the connection to the smart trainer and other sensors done via the phone or via the computer? I have a laptop without a bluetooth 4 or ant+ connection and would like to give it a go.

I just gave it a go. The connection works is done via the bluetooth of the phone not the computer.

I cannot justify paying for RGT but will use it occasionally as a free user. There just aren't enough other real riders, and I only get a pathetic 8 FPS in low mode on my 2017 laptop (which runs Zwift like a charm)

Hmmm ..... Sadly, No matter how many GB's of space you have on you Android 7.0 ... the RGT Android app is only available and compatible to those with Android Tablets 8.0 and above?

On Zwift my apple tv screen is too wide for the tv so I lose some of the information during rides. I tend to airplay zwift from my phone to the apple tv. Is this possible with RGT or is the phone like the companion app and you must use the apple tv app? Sorry if I missed this somewhere.

You should be able to fix the Zwift issue by adjusting your TV aspect ratio. RGT’s phone app is just like the companion app. So you will need to download the actual RGT Apple TV app and run it directly on your Apple TV and the RGT phone app to control everything.

Curious as to why you don’t just run Zwift on AppleTV directly... Older gen?

I tried to use it. I downloaded the PC app because I have a desktop with a 4k wide screen. But it wouldn't let me register on the pc, and it wouldn't let me register on the site either. So I download it on my phone only to register then I log into my pc app. The the app on pc gets stuck(not clear what buttons to press) so I get angry and I want to delete the whole thing and I can't find a way to exit the app on the phone from the menu! so I restart my phone and wipe both apps. Could they not make a simple desktop app where you just log in and ride? Why this overly complicated thing with the phone and the app...

When using the screen app in combination with an AppleTV “older” than the latest and greatest AppleTV 4K, be prepared for reduced graphics. The 4th Gen AppleTV-HD has 2Gb of RAM and this banishes you to a display of LOW resolution. The newest AppleTV 4K is rumored to have 3Gb of memory which might put you into the “Ultra” fine graphics mode. I have yet to validate this although when sending the screen instead to my iPad 8th gen (2.89Gb RAM), I do obtain the Ultra graphics. Seems the solution is for me to upgrade to the 4K Apple TV now. Everything else is great.

Can it be used with a Classic Trainer (Cyclops Fluid 2) with Cadence and Speed Sensor?

I believe if you had a power meter it would work with a dumb trainer.. I have cycleops 2 also with cadence/speed and it didn’t work.

Hard to tell without seeing your setup. What type of trainer do you have and is it listed under Slope menu in the pairing screen?

Does this work for kids? Is there a minimum weight like on Zwift (45kg), below which the algorithm short changes the kids in the watts per kilo= speed calculations?

Tariq, I'm a newbie getting ready to jump into the smart trainer environment. I'm thinking to go with the Saris H3. I have a Windows laptop, an android phone, tablet and a Samsung TV. With the aforementioned equipment, can I have a decent experience with RGT? Structured training and virtual rides up iconic passes without all the social interaction is my ticket. Any advice appreciated. You are my go to for all things smart trainer related. Thanks for all your excellent content.

Your RGT experience will depend on your laptop and if it’s equipped to handle RGT. The app is graphic intensive and requires a decent graphics card and processor. If it does, then you seem to have everything else you need. You can connect your laptop to your Samsung TV via HDMI cable and do your workouts. You can also add Apple TV 4K to your setup if you don’t mind spending another ~$170 and run RGT natively from the Apple TV box instead of your laptop.

You need to load the cycling app on your Apple phone then load the RGT screen app on iPad or Apple TV, then when they try to pair you input the 4 digit code. I was having the same tcp error when I was trying to use one device. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately they STILL don't have support for speed sensors independent of a 'smart trainer. Too bad, I would really have enjoyed using RGT but only have a roller trainer.

Ok, I think I got this. The POWER function refers to those power trainers that cyclists attach to the rear wheel, right? So a spin bike owner will never have a need for this function? Unless they are the owner of a smart bike.

Power is a measurement of the power output of the rider and can be used to track progress and training zones. It can be measured from the pedal, crank, or wheel depending on type of power meter. Some spin bikes provides this metric like the Peloton bike for example.

Speed and cadence will not give you power measurement. You will need a power meter such as Assioma Pedals for example that measure the torque you apply throughout your pedal revolution and broadcast that as watts. Yes you can connect your account to Strava and will automatically upload to your Strava account as soon as you finish and save your ride.

You can use it on an iPad but not a phone. Your phone will be needed as a remote controller

Just thought i would mention as you are bringing up fps a fair bit, it looks like your gaming pc's settings are restricting your fps to 60fps, (unless thats the refresh rate of your screen), i get between 120-144 in Ultra now, i used to get 60 like you then dug into the settings and found it was set at 60 changed it to match my screen and now its considerably higher.

@@SmartBikeTrainers In Windows - Settings- System - Display - Advanced Display Settings - Display Adapter Properties - monitor... Change setting to match your screens refresh Rate assuming its higher than 60... mine is 144... changed mine from 60 to 144.. and now get 120-144 in ultra...

Looks promising! The graphics for the switchbacks might need some improvement though

I tested it today with an Elite Direto XR and it feels more real than Zwift. For some reason the climb feeling on the elite in Zwift is way up exaggerated. Zwift has more interaction and community feeling. RGT feels closer to the real thing. Zwift app is more user friendly but eventually you get used to the one from RGT. Zwift has more connections to apps like Garmin connect etc.... I think RGT has some work to do but has a lot of potential.

Free is great, but the premium price is kind of ridiculous compared to Zwift which has way way more routes and has workout plans. I also couldn't find a way to calibrate my trainer in RGT. So if you go premium you can use their workouts which isn't very many, the routes aren't long enough and not enough of them. Also upset about TR, it's great but for the price it's kind of ridiculous :(

That’s a good point about trainers calibration. And yes, their workout library is lacking. I think if you are looking for a workout plan, you might be better off buying one from TrainingPeaks or get a TrainerRoad or Sufferfest subscription.

Been enjoying RGT use for simple easy rides or e race’s and TrainerRoad for training

Well... $14.99 is the same price like Zwift, plus it has some features that Zwift doesn’t have, I like the Magic Roads idea but its has to be something that we can create and use in minutes, waiting for 3 day’s isn’t a good thing. The Avatar movement, it’s by far behind Zwift. In terms of rewards it’s cool has some nice things, but for real cyclists or athlete’s it isn’t something to go for it. I think they improved it a lot but they need to hurry because in this era if you´re to slow making new improvements you going to get behind. One more thing, controlling everything via app isn’t a plus IMO, they need to incorporate the ant-Bluetooth connection via Software too.

Magic Roads normally only take 3-4 minutes to get back, there must have been an issue to cause a delay of 3 days, mine are always done within 5 minutes.

I have a high end gaming pc. As a pc game RTG and Zwift graphics would be considered crappy. Still a long way to go.

I've been having some minor issues with rgt, but it does have potential. One issue is that it doesn't use the build in cadence from my kickr. Another issue is that the weight doesn't seem be be adjusted when changing it, so the wpkg are incorrect.

It won't register the cadence from my Elite Drivo either. CGT need to fix this. I quite like CGT otherwise, although I've paid for The Sufferfest for a year.

All the routes are so short!

Would be cooler if it was paired with Google Maps Street View ...

App is easier to use than a mouse on the PC whilst riding, think App is a good thing, however the App needs to work seamlessly and at the moment I find it flakey, the Zwift App works much better in my experience, however I am sure RGT will get there

Tried it, kept crashing, gave it up.

Very hard to just $14.99/mo ... at the same price as Zwift and Rouvy, they would have to come up with something that is at least equally better and at least equally feature rich... which is really not. If I were them, I'd start at $4.99/mo get some subscribers in, start building the platform, getting more features and capabilities activated, then next year, justify the same price as zwift... as it stands today, I'd take free, but would never consider the $14.99 price when compared to zwift. Don't think they'll sign up any meaningful numbers of subscribers with such limited features and high price.

I think they wanted to keep it free for most. The ability to create events is the edge they have over Zwift. But can they get enough interest in that to sustain their business? I would have liked to see another option for cyclists who want to use it mostly for training with their workout mode.

@@SmartBikeTrainers I agree, I mostly use zwift for structured training from training peaks. I would give RGT a go if the price was lower but I can't justify the same price as zwift with less features.
