This was a fantastic video and very easy to follow. Thanks for making it. Only thing I got hung up on was that now there are two image files to download for extracting, and I needed to put them both in a folder together for the 7zip program to work.

I've just fixed it using another partition manager software called "EaseUS partition master", I tried with mini tool 4 times all the process from the start but I don't know why it didn't work, I am commenting it just in case someone have the same issue.

Disk genius worked like a charm.

At first, I had trouble getting everything to work with Garlic OS. I had to rename the PS1 folder to PS. I may have had to rename other folders as well. I discovered on the PS games that I had to move all the files out of the folders they were in. But then Garlic OS reported no games in the PS folder. I tried moving some jpg files to the images subfolder and removing some special characters from file names. Finally, Garlic OS was able to see all the PS games. All the RG35xx PS games in the 64gig distribution seem to work except for Suikoden II. For some games, I had to turn on "integer scaling" and get a copy of the PS1 BIOS for them to run at full speed. I couldn't find any BIOS files on the original RG35xx SD card. Not all arcade games I have tried work. I am trying to see what I can do about that. Is it possible to change emulators? I also had some problems with the CPS stuff. I want to run some Sinclair Spectrum games, but some of these games require keyboard input to start. Not sure what to do about that. I think that Garlic OS user interface could be a little more user-friendly. I would like to have sub-folders. If a game distribution has 4 files then it will list all 4 files in the menu, and only one of them will work. It would be nice to be able to zip up PS games, although I don't know if there is enough system memory for that to work. I would like to run PSP games, but the system might not be able to handle it. I saw that another OS was running PSP games with difficulty.

Great video if only it was able to show us the usb ports like in your video. I use a 32GB san disk ultra for GarlicOS and a 64GB sandisk for later for the roms. I followed every step but I only get stuck here. Installing everything went perfect. Tried so many times to make it work but my windows can't seem to find (in 5:34) : H: for u 520MB I: for u 51MB and J: for u it's 14.27MB Everytime I try to look for these in my computer it doens't give me a usable usb port like u, no it starts in my minitool partition wizard with ' *: ' inseat of what u have ( H: or I: or J: ) any ideas what could cause this? Is it because I am using windows?

I don't have my device yet, but prepping the SD card. When I flash the image to the SD card, all the partitions look the same as in the video except the partitions don't have drive letters, just asterisks. On the two important ones, that he names MISC and ROMS, I can right click and pick "change letter" and change them to G and J just like in the video, and also give them labels. But the other partitions, when I right click them, don't have "change letter" option, and stay as * in partition manager, and don't show in windows explorer. Do you think that will be ok?

Your actually perfectly set to go those 2 partitions don't really do much except for behind the scene work. I have the old SD card saved but the one I built is 100x better with much cleaner roms and a better overall experience

I know this post was nearly a year ago, but how do does this work with the file being split now? I've tried many guides, 7zip doesn't seem to work or even recognize the 2 SD card files as zip files, don't know what to do at this point.

I have questions, if i have 64gb on my sd 1 and its already Installed Garlic and theres iso game in there and its full, then i want put my second sd card , do i have install garlic os too or just Format to Fat32 and copy roms folder from file that i downloaded? And one more, if i have file game in my 1st sd, and file games in my 2nd sd. Can the console read it??

I have a question, my battery logo has a plus on it constantly after downloading this theme but I really like it, how should I fix this? I don't want to just take out the plus image in the skin folder because it won't show the plus when it actually needs to be charged. But the plus is always there. How should I fix this? Also, did anyone else notice his battery moved up and down like 3 times although the time didn't change at 16:28?

Now that the install comes with 2 7zip files how do you know what to do? You flash both, or just one and paste the other?

You need both files, but you only extract 001. They will extract together automatically. Once extracted the process is the same.

I have problem loading PCECD , SEGACD and ARCADE games on GarlicOS can you help? And yes I have put the bios files and the roms are '.chd' format

Great job explaining everything. But i need some help to make NeoGeo, Mame and Atari work on GarlicOs. Could you or any of you guys on the comments section help me with this issue please? I've been adding BIOs and stuff but games simply don't even start.

Why there are two images now? What should i do with the 2nd image?

I am going to buy the Rg35xx but I don't know which one. I would like to have to 2 SD slots, do I have to buy the more expensive version to have two slots or will the standard 64 have 2 slots. I plan on replacing them with better cards anyways. Also why would one want a second slot? Couldn't you just put a 128GB in the first one, what's the benefit to the second slot?

All RG35XX has two micro SD slots, you you buy the cheapest one because sd card providing by sellers happened to to be faulty, then you buying yourself set of 16gb for firmware and 128 or 64 (depends on your needs) for games. People are using Two sd card method just for convenience if their using couple of firmwares and switching between them often, also it's easier to update. If you're planning to stick with Garlic os just buy one 128 sd card and install firmware and put your games on it

Hello are you able to get the rumble working from this OS. I noticed even enabling it will not work. However the original 35xx works just fine. Did I miss anything?

I haven't really tinkered with rumble yet. I know that for playstation you need to go to the "Port 1 Controls" settings and change the device type from "Standard" to "Dual Shock."

Both Ext4 partitions dont show up as a drive…and when i put the sd card in my anbernic it doesnt start to boot…just a black screen 😢

All I can see is one drive: the one with dtbs, modules, etc. any ideas?

You will need to find good Roms on the web. Searching for "Miyoo Mini Tiny Best Set" is a good starting point. There is also a Roms subreddit that can be a good resource.

So the work you do on the first card, is the generic card that comes with the console?

You should get another card if you can. The one that comes with the console is usually poor quality.

I get that error when I'm unzipping file 001 and it can't find file 002. You need both files. The download page is kind of confusing now. The files for the latest version are named: "RG35XX-MicroSDCardImage.7z.001" and "RG35XX-MicroSDCardImage.7z.002" You could also download: "RG35XX-1.3.4-MicroSDCardImage.7z.001" and "RG35XX-1.3.4-MicroSDCardImage.7z.002" This is an older version, but this is the version I'm currently using.

The Garlic Download page has gotten harder to navigate lately. There are two install types for each version of Garlic. The files with the .img are named "MicroSDCardImage.7z" If your seeing files and folders in the archive then you might have the "CopyPasteOnTopOfStock.7z" version.

My PC dont see partition fat 32 roms.Why?How do to work it?

So I've been using my RG35XX already and I wondered, if I do this, do I lose all my progress in games? And also, would this replace all the games that the Sd cards came with when I bought the 128gb version? Thanks so much

That sounds right. The partitions don't automatically have names, and there will be two blank partitions that can simply be ignored. You should be all set.

So I’m trying to unzip the archive of the update files, but I keep getting an error saying it’s an unexpected end of data. I kept getting this when trying to unzip the OS files initially and thought it was a fluke and kept messing around until I figured it out but I can’t figure out how to unzip the update archives with 7-Zip. Maybe I’m just computer illiterate lmao

I get that error when I'm unzipping file 001 and it can't find file 002. You need both files. The download page is kind of confusing now. You can try to reflash your SD card or even try a different one. SD Cards can act real funny when they start to go bad.

Does this not work with windows 11? I’m trying to extract it and when I do it just creates an unreadable file

It does. You need 7zip to extract the image and you need both the 001 and 002 files to extract the complete image.

HI, i was formating the sd card and then install the Garlic OS, but after balena imaging, I noticed that partition for MISC is missing from drive. Only have ROMS drive i follow all your roms setup except MISC (because its missing). But the OS is still running and able to play game on SD card 1, but i tried to setup SD card 2 for roms installing, it is not showing the game on sd card 2 after booting. only show the games on sd card 1. Can you advise?

Hi, i had a similar issue though it was the ROMS folder that wasn't showing up in Windows Explorer...... if you open Partition Wizard, RIGHT click on the 'ROMS' [in your case 'MISC'] partition, select the 'Change Letter' option and choose from the dropdown menu the DriveLetter you want the partition to appear as, then hit 'Apply'. Hopefully that's fixed the issue for you, worked for me.

Is there a video out there somewhere showing how to do it on a mac? I can't find anything and I can't figure out how to do it on a mac :(

Balena Etcher has a Mac version to write the image to an SD card. The only part I'm not sure of is a partition tool to resize the Roms partition. Although if your doing a 2 card setup that doesn't matter.

@@henrynox4244 Thanks for your reply! I managed to figure it out and now it works fine. The only issue I have now is that I can't get my boxart to show up on the device. I followed online guides and managed to resize the images with the transparent background and also managed to align the game titles on one side in the Garlic OS. But for some reasons the images just don't show up on my rg35xx. Could you make a video on how to do it properly by any chance? That would be an absolute life saver. I'm running a 2 card setup btw.

I'm trying to get an 8bitdo wired switch controller to work with the USB, but I did a fresh install from the GarlicOS.img file and there is no "misc" partition, there are 4 partitions 2 are readable and 2 are unrecognized in windows, can anyone let me know what I might be doing wrong, should I have just done the normal SD card and used the base install files instead? to keep the original layout or should I find a way to convert the 2 partitions to something that windows can read?

It's not supposed to be a misc partition. It's a misc folder inside the main partition you extended

It's the small partition on your main SD card. Windows tells me it's only 9.96MB. The partition with the "modules" folder and the "boot_logo.bmp.gz" file. We call it "misc" because when you upgrade Garlic you copy the contents of the "misc" folder to that partition.

This OS is only for the RG35XX. Not sure what the other Anbernic devices have for OS options.

Yes, you can just turn it on and play right out of the box. The stock OS will works and has a bunch of games pre-loaded. The Garlic OS just has extra features and often smoother emulation.

My 35xx is on the way. Why do people want to flash the stock system?

There are some good features with Garlic OS that the Stock OS doesn't have. Like a sleep option, button remapping, additional console support, and custom skins. Some games and systems also run better in Garlic OS.

The stock OS does work out of the box. Garlic OS gives you way more features.

Also, this website has some information on what bios files you need for other consoles. github.com/OnionUI/Onion/wiki/Emulators Most guides for the Miyoo or Onion OS carry over to the RG35XX and Garlic OS.

I don't have one but some really hard to run games are laggy on this device but it has an overclock feature now. Use it so it won't lag if you already have Garlic OS installed.

You may need to assign the partition a letter with whatever partition program your using or the Windows disk manager. It will be the last of the four partitions on your SD card.

You can try to re-flash the card or try a different version of Garlic OS. You might have to do some searching for old versions of Garlic though.

Looks like the latest update might address this issue. Version 1.4.3 has notes about fixing some newer models freezing at the logo during bootup.

all i keep getting is corrupted files and zip wont open them. im at the point i dont even wanna change software just swap the info from this shitty sd card they sent to a much better one

Use 7zip to extract the files, and make sure you have both the "RG35XX-MicroSDCardImage.7z.001" and "RG35XX-MicroSDCardImage.7z.002" files downloaded when you extract them. Going back to stock is also possible. rg35xx.com has links to the stock os.

@HenryNox yeah that seemed to work like a charm but when I loaded up the new os firmware none of my ps1 games would load.

Can’t believe GarlicOS has NO SEARCH Function? Why? That makes me think the stock is better just because of this one feature
