Thanks for the review - you answered a few questions for me and I am glad I went with the RP2 since I already have the Ambernic 350M which I love and looks to do most of what the 351 does. Excellent video. I am going to wait at this point for the next power jump in these handhelds before I buy another...though so many of them are quite tempting. Oh forgot to mention how much I like the golden dodo rating system you had on there during the gameplay.

I'd like to see you add a pocket test to show how portable these handhelds are. How it fits, is it comfortable walking around with it in there, does it need to go in a backpack instead, etc..

Fantastic review! Thanks for always getting down to the nuts and bolts. When you tested the N64 and Dreamcast and experienced the lag and frame speed issues that you noted in the review, I am curious if you tried adjusting the frame skip and if this was still true after you adjusted the frame skip option or did you not try that with any games on N64 and DC?

Update! There's now a new version of 351elec (one of the systems you can use) called Pineapple Forest. It plays N64, DreamCast, PSP snd DS really well now.

I love the way this plays gba games. I really like the colour scheme even though the annologs don't match the buttons. The plastic is not smooth but I like that about the texture. It's super comfortable. So well built and the screen is so fresh. I really like the rating system. I agree with them being more transparent about capability. Great honest review🙏🏾

It's feels extremely comfortable when playing GBA games. It literally feels like it was made perfectly for Gameboy Advance

I'm great GBA and PS1 fan so I'm probably going to get one of these, but also I'd like to try some PSP and NDS and therefore getting a RP2. I have been using mine for months now, once I downloaded more roms, and adjusted the screen resolution for the 8 bit and 16 bit emulators this is one of my all time favourite emulation consoles, I have to admit I don't use it for Playstation, Dreamcast or N64 much, but for the price point and great form factor - I'm in love!!!

What’s most impressive is the buttons/analog and clear display. That’s what’s usually missing in handhelds like these. I might actually buy this(I only wish you can play against others)

Same. I've just ordered one, someone was selling one on eBay second-hand but pristine for £60. Ordered a 256GB microSD for £10 off Amazon. I'm going to be like 90% GBA games, maybe 10% SNES as that was before my time and I'd like to play some of the games that never got ported to later consoles.

Just purchased like yours (The coloring reminds me of my first GBC and therefore very Retro...) and thanks to your videos really well done and very professional.

Great video as always Brandon and the Dodo team. Glad you're keeping the rating system, it really makes your full review and first looks on new devices that more polished. I myself personally grabbed a GBA Indigo Retroid Pocket 2 and have been having so much fun with what it offers. Glad to see Anbernic moving up to current specs, but I think they should go the way of Android so they and Retroid can be the top dogs and competitors in the retro hand-held market.

great review. glad i took a gamble on the retroid pocket 2, the DS and dreamcast emulation was what put it over the top. but you werent joking about the rp2 setup...ive had mine for a month and only just now got it working the way i want lol. hopefully whatever comes after rg351 has enough horsepower, cuz i definitely love the build and analog sticks more

Well I think the reason for the headphone jack placement is you can't make it stand when using a headphone on the bottom.

I found your video as I was searching for reviews on this product. Loved the review and I am now a new sub. I recently purchased this handheld, and I love it, it's perfect in every way. You said this was great for a first-timer with handheld emulators, and it was perfect for that. But, what would you say is the next step up for more experienced players, I guess? Nice hand console, do a overclock on this.

Have one of these on preorder and can't wait to receive it. Sold my Evercade after being massively disappointed by the screen, choice of games, poor service from Funstock at launch and the lack of promised arcade games in the future.

Ironically Retro Dodos honest review made me buy this device because this will be my first emulator and I want it as an perfect replacement for my stolen GBA with alot of power for more demanding emulation than GBA and really nice build quality as it seems. And Im confident in the next 1 or 2 years I will probably be able to get a device which lets me replace my psp and even ps2 in a nice little device with maybe a 5-6 inch screen sub 200 dollars. Just dreaming a little bit.

Sorry to hear about your GBA being stolen, I hope your Anbernic was a good replacement. Mine is working a treat, but I still have to configure it to run Amiga games properly :)

Maybe 'best out of the box handheld'? Great video. The only disagreement I might have is that it'll outlast the Retroid Pocket 2. I don't really know if either would outlast the other, but the fact of the matter is that if you're the average person who only has the throwaway cash to buy one of these units, it doesn't matter which you get because one that's just a little bit better will probably be released in six months. I picked up the RP2 and while the front end on this looks really nice (without having to mess with any settings!) I just love the way the RP2 looks and all of the style options. Honestly had a hard time choosing between orange, 16Bit US and Retro. The thing is just gorgeous. As someone who hasn't had to deal with the kind of hurdles of handheld retro gaming since modding my 1st gen PSP I know that I've got some uphill battles to look forward to, but more power, a sexier looking device, the ability to hook up a bluetooth controller to it and use it hooked up to my TV and $20 less adds up to an easier decision for me. Still, the RG351P looks like a great package and I wouldn't wonder why someone would want to get it. If nothing else not having to go and find your own roms is a really nice bonus.

I bought one upgraded from my X9 ....I would wait a year or two and get a better version being you have a RG350...

Do you think they’ll update it to make them run better or what’s the best handheld device that can run everything I wish there was GameCube too but oh well

What’s the Dpad like? For example could you play street fighter 2 comfortably as in being able to do special moves etc?

What are your thoughts on the 3:2 aspect ratio? Those stretched pixels (on 4:3 games) look really unpleasant compared to a proper 4:3 screen (even the one on the RG350).

Great as always, but I have a few questions, not all on the 351. First, on the 351, can it handle Majora's Mask and Ocarina of time? And do you have any knowledge you can share on when the GPD XD 2 is coming out? Beyond the nebulous this year?

Did you test many dreamcast games? Did all of them perform about the same as crazy taxi? Which ones did you test?

How would you rate psp, N64, DS and DC if you have latest 351 Elec? Is it up from 3 to 4 and 4 to 5 stars when comparing with this video?

Thanks for talking me out of buying a 351. I bought a 350M a few months ago, and it's fine I guess. Love the build quality, but it chugs a bit on some games (even FF2 on SNES in the fog), but this one seems chuggy too. I would love to see an Android handheld with Anbernic's metal build quality, running better chips with a nice screen that would scale easily and properly. Guess I should just be thankful for what I have and keep my eyes open for the next devices.

Does it play Legacy of Cain or Vagrant story with no sound issues? how about Super Mario RPG and Blackthorne on SNES?

What front end is that? it looks like a nicer version of Simplemenu. I'd like to load my RG350M with that front end, if possible.

Do you know if I can put this OS on the 350P? I like how visually appealing it is.

I've modded my psvita a year ago and it plays pretty much everything. But dealing with the apps etc is just a lot of work. Specially since it's not really well organized with pics etc. Bangood has this device with a 128gb card preloaded with 10000 roms for $109 in stock. In wondering if it's finally time to pull the trigger one of these handhelds or hold on for another 6 months as it seems we are finally reaching the quality sweet spot. There is also a 64gb version for around $89. I could save a bit of cash or just get the device with everything I'll ever needed loaded and sorted. Would love some advice on this, should I wait or go for it?

Question... How does text in say fire emblem and minish cap look on this handheld?? I recently finally bought a pocket go. It's great and I love how tiny it is, but the text in minish Cap is awful and it is decent in fire emblem. I'd just like to know before I plunk the money down! I love the pickup and play aspect of this device... I mean sure I'm a nerd and I can hack just about anything but it's really nice when you don't have to put any work into something. please get back to me whenever you can about the text size in games on this rg351p

@@RetroDodo it would be extremely useful to just have a teardown on how these items are built. What the process and thinking is behind such devices. How the company gets to fund / prototype such a device. I can imagine that a handheld can't be that expensive to manufacture. Not if no-name companies are already making such devices (QA issues aside).

Who knows the song and artist on the intro? I couldn't decide between the RG351P or the Retroid Pocket 2. So I just bought both. The one I like less will stay in my work bag.

I read somewhere that the SD that comes with it is bad quality, and slows some games down. And that with a better quality SD card (SanDisk extreme) the games worked better, could this be true?

Rg350m has a better screen, neither are good at 3d PlayStation games. The 350m is probably better despite the slower cpu and less ram.

How does it handle multi disc ps1 games, specifically Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy VII. In addition, is it capable of playing music/media?

Would this run zelda ocarina of time time good for the n64 and gauntlet legends for ps1? My dad loves zelda and both of them love gauntlet dark legacy so I thought they would love playing gauntlet legends. I just want to do something nice for them.

mine runs normally them smooth as silk, but "mileage may vary" meaning it occasionaly screentears

Help!!! My 2 months old anbernic rg351p stopped working😫😭 It freezes on first screen where you have big white R and red sign: anbernic and that is it! It wont go any further!!! Ive try to clean memory card, Ive tried to restart it and NOTHING!! Im bit dissapointed with this product!

I do like mine. As much as I also like the RGB10 and RK2020, it's clear that Anbernic are higher quality. Looking forward to seeing handhelds in the future with more powerful chipsets to make N64, Dreamcast and PSP games an overall better experience.

I am hoping to see one powerful enough for Gamecube and maybe the original Xbox, plus everything prior - for me that would make the perfect retro handheld but probably a few years off for something like that to come out in a well built and reasonably priced handheld.

I was about to buy an RG351P, but at the end I bought the RGB10 because I saw it running better on all videos. But right now I wasn't sure if I made the right choice, 'cause of the RG351P's build quality, but I still see the RGB10 running better on videos...

It runs pretty well for a handheld full of classic and retro games

I got one of these today, was impressed for about 5 minutes until I noticed the awful screen bleed so sent it back. It feels nice to hold and use but the screen resolution is a massive bummer.

can i connect this to TV using cable type C to hdmi cable?

I believe it comes with both those games... Pretty much any PS1 game will play just fine

Did you try to install an other firmware? Maybe the games will run smoother with a new firmware.

I would love to get a portable handheld that can play perfect dark multilayer against bots flawlessly... Does a powerful enough system exist yet? Extra points if it could also play Tony hawks but I know I am asking a lot...

Retroid Pocket 2 can probably do it provided you are ok with some tradeoffs and customization. I have one on the way.

Sir how smooth it is when you play it? Is it smooth as the psp for example when played? And is this the best handheld you have in your collection?
