RFK Jr.: The Reason Interview

Ойын-сауық

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has attracted the interest of libertarians who celebrate his critiques of COVID policy and regulatory capture. He recently appeared as a keynote speaker at the National Bitcoin Conference in Miami and has declared that he will "make sure that your right to use and hold bitcoin is inviolable."
But RFK Jr. also has an authoritarian streak. He has said he wants to prosecute those who fund "climate deniers" or run businesses that emit too much carbon for "reckless endangerment." He declared the NRA to be a "terror group," suggested to NBC News that, as president, he would "order his Justice Department to investigate the editors and publishers of medical journals for 'lying to the public'"; and reportedly vowed to direct health policy "from the Oval Office" through executive orders.
Join Reason's Nick Gillespie and Zach Weissmueller this Thursday at 1 p.m. ET for a discussion of all this and Kennedy's Democratic primary challenge to Joe Biden, a contest in which he's regularly polled in double digits.

He was not condescending at all even when he clearly already knows and has intensely studied and scrutinized each graph and datum that these two guys are just now pulling off the internet. The man brought Monsanto to its knees and has been a staunch environmentalist for 50 years. The reason he is ready to debate and go toe-to-toe with the top scientists in the world is not because he has a mere cursory study in the subjects. He KNOWS the science, folks.

The interviewers might not have been great, but it was RFK, Jr who wandered into the weeds even when Nick tried to steer him back. Example: _"Tell us some of the ways your Presidency would appeal to Libertarians?"_ Kennedy then wandered off into exactly the opposite -- an arcane discussion about the Magna Carta and the tragedy of the commons instead of taking advantage of the silver platter Nick served up for him by talking about his libertarian views on civil liberties, free speech, freedom of the press, censorship, his position on decriminalization of cannabis, taxation, the need for less regulation in zoning and housing, etc. RFK, Jr. has tremendous promise, but he is NOT a polished political candidate yet. It's great to be able to go in depth, but you've GOT to have the headline single-sentence summary too. And if you want people to follow you along a deep-dive into something, it's like speechmaking 101, you always start by giving them the summary outline before diving in so they understand the framework and have context. He's also got to learn when less is more. Last night, the NewsNation town hall started with Elizabeth Vargas offering him an opportunity to explain why his voice might sound strange to some. He launched into a 10 minute answer, and she had to cut him off. Nobody wants to know all about the medical history and experimental surgery and who the leading doctors are -- what was called for was to say _"Thank you, I have a condition called spasmodic dysphonia that hit me in my early 40s. It makes my voice raspy. The bad news is, it makes it tougher to listen to me and I apologize for that, but the good news is, it affects nothing but my voice, and I'm otherwise in excellent health."_ That's it. There's nothing more that ought to be said.

Agreed, was really unimpressed with the interviewers style and tactics, and found the chriticiam shallow at best, and hacky at worst. I'm happy Kennedy make sure he was aloud to finish his points after being asked a question, but he shouldn't have had to ward off interruptions aimed at moving on to the next thing. Interruptions are ok when they are to get to an understanding or for clarification, also to raise a solid counterpoint. But this was not what was going on imo. Anyway, I've seen a few interviews from this channel before and didn't notice these problems or combative style gotcha. I'm all for combative in the pursuit of truth and precision, this is what I mostly got from RFK in response. They were fine, but the list at the end of a mix of true, half true, and down right incorrect characterization of his son called "conspiratorial" beliefs, was cheep and hacky. Especially the wifi mind control shit, it's like he definitely might have that one wrong, but it's cancer he is explicitly taking about . Left me more interested in RFK and less in this channel.

You’re not alone to say this but I never understood how someone can support Dr. Ron Paul (and other Libertarians) AND Bernie Sanders. I mean Libertarianism is literally on the opposite political/ideological spectrum to Socialism. Everything about Ron Paul is about maximizing freedom, individualism, small government, pro US Constitution and getting the government out of our lives. Everything with Bernie is using the arms of the federal government to enforce his way on everyone “for the greater good” of the collective. Socialism has no room for a private property, it is the opposite of free market capitalism that Ron Paul and libertarianism supports. Bernie sees the government as a solution to all your problems while Ron Paul and libertarians see the government as the problem. I can go on but long story short, those two ideologies are polar opposites and as I’m sure you can guess, I am with Ron Paul, it’s not that one might support Bernie instead that is odd to me but that one can support both I’m sure they agree on some things like war for the most part although Bernie doesn’t mind “humanitarian wars” and some other small things but on almost every issue including spending and fiscal responsibility and so on, they are polar opposites so I never understood even some of my own friends that love both candidates unless they just don’t really care about the policies I just like the person I guess because while I don’t like any of Bernie’s policies and I think he’s wrong on every issue, I at least think that he is actually sincere and well-intentioned and thinks he is helping compared to someone like Elizabeth Warren who is a complete knock off and fake Bernie who stole all his policies but doesn’t actually believe in them

I've watched malicious interviews before, like the one Krystal Ball gave him last month. I just think these guys believe what they believe. I applaud RFK for this discussion because it's easy to give talking points to a friendly interview, but you're not really building a coalition that way. The way to build a coalition is by articulating your views to audiences that don't agree with you, and getting them to your side. I remember in 2020 that a bunch of democrats refused to go on FOX, and attacked those who did. Many of them also refused independent media. I kept thinking of how stupid they are. One thing I think RFK Jr really drove home about vaccines and drugs in general is that he believes they aren't researched enough before being approved. He also drove home the point that the same data can be represented and explained in different ways that leave people with very different interpretations. This topic is way more nuanced than most of us have been led to believe.

As someone pointed out, RFK Jr likes to go in depth on things, so a "lighting round" of questions doesn't allow him to elaborate enough to make his arguments effectively. His arguments are often unconventional, especially on controversial topics, so he absolutely has to elaborate why his views don't align with those of the establishment.

Yeah, he knows. So we do what we can to protect him. If you are pagan, cast spells, if you are religious, make prayers; if you are an atheist, work as his bodyguard or develop the antidotes. Call out the corruption that slithers in the shadows. They will not shoot him and turn him into a martyr. they will first try to destroy his character (which has been working well for a long time but is starting to falter), then they will try to poison him in a way that it looks like he is failing of his own accord. Poison could be chemical or biological or energetic. A bioweapon would be the tool of choice and the more people who know that, the harder it will be for them to pull it off successfully. Because the killers don't want to get caught. RFK Jr is already too popular to kill outright. Even a plane crash would be too obvious. And thoughts have power, so send him wishes of cosmic protection and success. If we weren't powerful, the Elites wouldn't care what we thought

These interviewers seemed to have a very hard time getting out of their own way and letting this man give an answer. I lost count of how many times they cut RFK Jr. off during an answer, and they even cut each other off. The one thing that hit me most in this interview; RFK Jr handled himself very diplomatically in this situation. I might have lost it myself. One question, one answer guys, then follow up if needed. He gave them enough respect not to cut them off, and let them speak their turn. And that "conspiracy theorist" question by the interviewer was a horribly constructed question without citing his sources, and when asked by RFK Jr. "Let's go through one at a time", and "Show me where I'm wrong..." were answered by an "Okay, okay" with no specific questions to answer. In my eyes they were completely unprepared, and it offends me that they literally attacked him at the end with a barrage of gobbly-do. I see no "sources" cited in your video description in regards to any of the gobbly-do. (Who in their right minds would label this man as a conspiracy theorist anyways? All he is saying is "Do the tests that weren't done in the first place, and let the people make an informed decision.") We are depending on interviews like these to make a very important decision; All as Americans in order to get out and vote to defend our Democracy. I would appreciate a more prepared interview in the future guys. Thank you for informing us Bobby!
