Race Control addition to RF2 has rekindled my excitement for online racing, the style of driving RF2 delivers suits me so much better than iRacing. Attendance is looking very promising, so glad we have more simracing options now.

Yeah it’s great to have another option like this. I loved having rF2 on LFM but it was a struggle to find full grids away from peak time. The daytime entry numbers for this race yesterday were incredible! 180+. Really encouraging start.

Yeah I was definitely very proud of this one! Couldn’t see a way through, without really having to plan ahead. If not my best, it was definitely my most satisfying!

Good to see RF2 going from strength to strength. I reckon this multiplayer will get very popular!

It’s definitely worth a look, Eric. However it can be a bit of a pain to install and set up. Far less user-friendly than ACC. You have to install, then subscribe to cars/tracks in the Steam workshop, then sync the two, then install the subscribed content. It’s quite a faff! Also takes a lot of fine tuning to get the display and FFB to your liking. But it definitely is worth the effort, once you get there! Just requires a bit of time and patience (two things I’m short on!) 🤣

Nice video, that turn 1 was entirely on him. There wasn’t any room for that move. I am so glad in RF2 you can actually touch a bit without an instant spin like acc and iracing

Yeah, I thought it was a little on the ambitious side to try that move! I was right on the white line so thought I was as tight as I could be. But there was a little more tarmac the other side on the line - definitely not a car’s width though! I think rF2 gets the balance just right when it comes to contact. A few nudges and bumps here and there, without it being race-ending!

It’s looking really good so far, Walt, you’ll love it when you get in there. I’d never heard of this track before, but it looks great in rFactor 2! It’s always nice to get on a unique track for a change, rather than the usual ones that appear in every sim.

After another disappointing iRacing league race i jumped onto RF2. It took some time sort my wheel rotation out. But i was so impressed i forgot the time. Still have to setup some buttons, which I'll do today. Fantastic! 😊

Good race there! The new RF2 online has been pretty great so far for a beta. The races I have done have been pretty clean for a rookies series and if you haven't already, drive the Radical's, they are probably some of the must fun to drive in the online.

Great stuff Chris. I was holding out on renewing my Iracing sub until Black Friday then Race Control landed. Ive been having a blast and as you say the participation is very healthy. I reckon they could clean up with plenty BTCC races.

Tried this combo the other day, was a lot of fun! However, the drivers in your split seem to be a little more prepared than the ones in mine. It was a wreck feast! Still fun though. Glad rF2 has done this. It' 'll be great if I can get out for rookie class and drive some of the cars available in the higher license classes. Great video as always Chris. : )

Ahh yeah, that’s the big shame, I’m sure so many more people would be on it if it was just a bit more straightforward to get set up properly. I’ve been pretty lucky, in that I didn’t need to make too many tweaks to get it feeling ok. But I know lots of people have struggled. It’s not such a ‘plug-in-and-play’ sim as some of the others, sadly.

Wow Chris - you have a completely different impression of this combo than I do. I tried it yesterday and couldn't keep the car on the track. It was so frustrating - real cars don't slide around that much. I gave up after practicing trying to get ready for a race - I would have made a fool out of myself. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Did you change the traction control settings on it? I noticed by default they were off completely, and I was sliding around everywhere. I changed it to TC1 (Dry) which was better but still a bit slippy. Ended up going full TC2 (Wet) and that felt much better!

@@studio9guy Haha yeah, my first time in the car, I spun twice before getting to the end of pit lane! Don’t know if there’s a way to change it in the actual setup screen, but I just have the increase/decrease buttons set on my wheel. Annoying thing is, it resets between sessions, so you have to keep remembering to switch it back on, on the grid before the race.

Bloke on the first corner took Senna's quote and transformed into "you can imagine any gap you want and just go for it" lol

I did a few laps in the F4 but then missed the entry deadline to join the race! So went for this M2 race an hour later, and yeah, both of them were really nice to drive

Ahh I was waiting to see when you went onto the RF2 beta online MP racing service..I have only managed 2 races to date (No free time) But all went without a glitch thankfully...And the netcode is nearly non existent, so plenty of door banging lol .... I do like the fact that it is based around your SR rating. ie you cant go up in DR until your SR is higher. The player count has been damn impressive throughout the day every day which is refreshing to see...Great vid as always chris :)

I was astonished when I saw how many signups there were. Think it was a 1pm race and there were 180+ drivers in it. Incredible. Really hope it maintains this momentum, as it’ll be a really big alternative to the existing multiplayer sim offerings 🤞

Liked seeing the fangs come out at T1 😀. My first rF2 online race I exited after about two minutes because I ended up in a lobby with a couple of dimwits who were just purposely wrecking everyone. Thankfully my second go in the Tatuus at Atlanta Motorsports Park was a lot more enjoyable.

Hey George, thank you mate. The overlay is RaceLab, and it must be fairly easy to set up, because I managed it first time 🤣 you have to make a couple of settings changes in rF2 after installing RaceLab, but there’s a good RaceLab step-by-step guide video on KZread that I followed.

Haha yes, it was certainly a little ‘ambitious’ to say the least! Half a car’s width at best before the corner, and none at all in the corner.

You can also add the blind spot mirrors, they will help you see left and right, unless your playing in triples!👍

Thanks mate, yeah I’m just on the single monitor. I usually do run with the three mirrors across the top and find them really useful, but I thought I’d test it without here… free up my screen a bit and try to rely on the radar more. But I reckon I’ll go back to the three mirrors!

Yeah I definitely recommend it, and there’s no better time to try it out. It can be a bit of a fiddle to get all the settings sorted, and feeling the way you want it to feel. But it’s worth it when you get there!

That looks like fun. I saw Dave Cam online with rF2 earlier in the week and so tried it myself, but I must have got a bad (beta) day, as the registration process would not work 😞. Having seen your video, I will give it another go. Thanks for posting.

Ahhh yeah, I read that they were having some issues reaching server capacity when more than 200 drivers signed up, so chances are that’s what caused your registration to crash. Definitely worth another try though!

Try going back to the main menu then back into online. Sometimes that cures sign-up issues.

@@MiPDarnokHaha strangely, I find the exact opposite… it feels the most grippy of all the FFB across the sims for me. I have my settings set up with inverted FFB, set to -100. A friend told me to try it when I was setting it up, and I’ve left it like it. Not sure whether that’s specific to my TX wheel though.

@@chrisrogerssimracing That's weird, im setting wet TC and even with that, adding a little more gas spins you like hell. It's more "defendable" than iRacing, but still every turn is a fight for survival. Don't have that both in iRacing and ACC. I tried rFactor2 before with renault clio rs and it was ok. But this BMW is crazy. Maybe it's just the FOV of mine, maybe its ffb but something is way off for me. Or maybe its just how those cars really are :D for sure setting TC is a must, it sucks they made it hard for people to notice it (as it is not always on in the blackbox)

The collision radar is a RaceLab overlay (along with the relative board in the bottom left) 👍

Another good video mate 👌 I tried rf2 yesterday couldn’t get setting right looked strange! How do you get the virtual mirror on and are you using race labs overlays?

That’s the one big problem with rF2, it can take A LOT of tinkering to get it looking and running right! As for the mirrors, there’s a virtual mirror toggle key that’s auto-bound to one of the number keys. I think it’s keyboard button 3, but it could be one of the others either side of it. That cycles between all the various mirror combos. As for overlays, the relative and radar is RaceLab. But the Tyre/damage bottom right is the in-game HUD (the MFD box, which you can also cycle through). Everything else on the in-game HUD, I toggle until it’s off. Good luck!

Awesome first look at this new online racing option Chris. Can’t wait to try it myself soon! I actually did a few practice laps for this combination offline, and the FFB on the M2 felt kind of floaty. Did you notice the same? Could be my settings otherwise.

Generally I find the rF2 FFB the complete opposite of floaty, it feels really firm and grounded. I did have to dial up my TC to stop the slides though. By default, the car has no TC at all. I ended up using TC2 (Wet) - even TC1 (Dry) was too slippery for my liking!

@@LDFR A random tip, and I’ve no idea what it does or why, but someone recommended me to change the in-game master FFB settings to -100 and start from there. So I think I kept mine at -100 in the end and run it that way.

Try putting the car specific multiplier up to 125%. I find I need it for these cars. And remember that it is stored per livery, so if you change to a different livery then you need to set the multiplier again.

For me, having fun, take pleasure online with good clean race is the most important in simracing and this system do it great, helped by rf2 ffb and phicics who always give me smile behind my wheel ❤

Thanks. The relative board and radar are both from the RaceLab overlay. Then I use the in-game MFD bottom right to show tyre wear and damage.

I love the FFB in rFactor 2, as it really suits the type of setup I like. I love a firm wheel, and it’s really firm in rF2. You can feel it shudder when the tyres grip and dig in, into turns. So there’s not gliding or floaty feel. It’s great.

FFB in RF2 is one of the best…if you set it up properly. It’s not the easiest to set up but many people put it right at the top of the FFB charts.

Great race. is the diagram of the car showing damage and tire wear from race labs? been trying to find that in game and I just have had no luck.

No, that’s the in-game rF2 HUD! It’s the MFD, if you bind a button to cycle through the MFD, you can get it to land on that tyre/damage box 👍

Looks like you can get pretty good races on all the non-mainstream sims like ACC or iR. I would stick with rF2 and R3E. Much cheaper anyway

Haha sorry not sorry 😉 definitely worth a try mate. The beginners series are all base content, so no extra DLC needed. And you can usually find rf2 for a great deal somewhere like CD Keys or Instant Gaming 👍

Hopefully it will keep or even expand it's popularity across the community. The real challenge is going to be with paid tracks, don't want this to end up like raceroom where people are racing same 3 tracks over and over again 😅

Yeah good point. If track variety does start to become a bit repetitive, it’d be good if they could release some special offer sales on certain tracks to be used in the upcoming schedules. Or something like that, just to try and encourage participation levels. Promising start though, for sure 😃

Yeah I do really like it. It looks great, and the physics / FFB feel really good. It can be a fiddle to install and set up. But it is worth it to get there. LFM pretty much rescued its online offering though, however this new in-game multiplayer looks really encouraging.

I spent almost two hours trying to set up the game to my liking yesterday as I think this may be now the best sim out there. But I couldn’t figure out how to get the virtual rear view mirror in the cockpit view and also the racelab overlays wouldn’t show up. Any suggestions on how to fix these two issues?

Ahh yeah, so there’s a keyboard button you can press to cycle through all the various virtual mirrors. I think it’s the 3 key by default, or one of the numbers either side. But you can go into the Controls section of Settings and bind it there. As for RaceLab, did you follow their rF2 setup guide on KZread? There are a few extra steps to do, like installing and activating a plug-in in the rF2 settings. Also needs to be borderless windowed mode, rather than full screen. Then sometimes I find the RaceLab overlay sits ‘underneath’ the rF2 window, so I minimise rF2, maximise RaceLab and then expand rF2 again. Hope that helps!

Do it! Yeah Forza didn’t appeal to me at launch, but I’m sure I’ll give it a go at some point, perhaps later down the road when it comes into a sale.

You mentioned your TC setting. I thought the setup was fixed. Is that not the case?

Certainly the in-car TC adjustments were allowed. I didn’t make any changes on the car setup screen (other than fuel) but yeah, you’re able to increase or decrease TC in the cockpit 👍

The new rFactor 2 online mtiplayer is great! It's like iRacing and rFactor 2 had a baby lol. However I hate this car. It drives like a boat. No wonder they decided this is the one they gave for free 😂

Haha yeah it’s not my favourite car either. I dislike the BMW GT4 too, for exactly the same reasons.

I wish I could participate in the new online system, however when I changed the beta settings my framerate went from 100-144 to 50-80, which is a bit too big of a jump for me unfortunately.

Ahh that’s a real shame mate. Maybe try dialling down some of the graphics settings. I was getting a few stutters, so I lowered the shadows and track details etc

Good question, I’m not sure. This race was 1pm EU time, so a pretty off-peak period in the US time zones. Will be interesting to see how it works at other later times.

Yeah exactly! I picked it up for a crazy cheap price in one of the Steam sales. So far I’ve only got the Brit track pack and BTCC packs, but can see myself investing in some more DLC if this multiplayer takes off.

I genuinely dont get it. EVERY time i install rf2 i ALWAYS DELETE it 30 minutes later in frustration. I REALLY want to play this but its got terrible user experience. Im still new to sim racing (-6 months) and other games just do it better. I (and probably others) could do with a idiots guide to the settings. I dont want to pay iracing tax and acc feels horrid so im very up to make this my main when it works

Ahh that’s a shame mate. I remember it being a bit of a chore, getting subscribed to Workshop items, getting it synced and then having to get the content installed too. Certainly not as easy as it should be! Graphics and video settings also need a fair bit of tinkering. But it is worth it when you get there.
