Trying the Series That Made Me QUIT iRacing!

Ойындар

The last time I entered this Formula 4 series, it was so bad I ended up quitting iRacing for nearly a year! Recently, though, I’ve returned to the sim and I’ve been enjoying my FF1600 races, so I thought MAYBE it was time to give the F4 another try.
Has it got any better? Is it as chaotic as I remember? Well, I’m about to find out as I return to face my demons at Brands Hatch.
Will the iRacing F4 car bring out the best in me, or will it just bring on another meltdown? Let’s find out…

    I find that many sim racers will get alongside mid corner, usually with an unsafe dive bomb like this guy, and then expect you to hand over the position. That's the impression I was given by this incident.

    Great couple of results there, Chris! Yeah that incident wasn't deliberate on your part and you left him enough room. Just sour grapes from him in the end. But look how he just rolls back onto the racing line without any respect for other drivers. Gives one an insight of the sort of competitor he was. Anyway, well done!

    Exactly right. When I raced this series year, I had ZERO luck. Every crash or rejoin in tack, I’d somehow get caught up in it. At least with this one, I was generally quite lucky by being just far enough away from the carnage. Even the Druids incident was lucky in a way… I escaped without more serious damage, and it didn’t stop me finishing where I would likely have ended up anyway. Cheers!

    Gah!!! I had to pause the video so I could comment right now! You were in NO WAY to blame for that crash. The guy behind you divebombed you on the corner. He's lucky you left him room. On top of that, he drifted out after the corner clipping you and wiping you both out. Completely, 1000% his fault! To think he has the gall to blame you boils my blood!!! Now back to your regularly scheduled comment. Great races! First race was so close to standing on the podium! I still cringe with how much bad driving and carnage you see in all your races. For the second race, I already got on my soapbox for the crash incident. As for starting high on the grid and losing spots on the first lap, that's my modus operandi! 😛I'm not as aggressive as other drivers, which usually means I lose spots in tight racing. And like you, I tend to gain most of my spots back from others' misfortune. Glad to see you pull off a podium. If it wasn't for "Mr Not My Faut", you could have done so much better.

    Thanks for another great video, Chris. You left buckets of room at Druids, the other bloke either had a bit of understeer, or he thought he might squeeze you out and you'd back off. Either way, he knew he had to be on the left for Graham Hill bend to make any pass stick, so it was his fault no matter which way you slice it. On the last lap of your second race, for just a moment I realised that my heart rate had gone right up!!! Your commentary dragged me right in and I felt I was in the battle for that P3 😯😂 I don't know what you do for a job mate, but I reckon you've missed your calling as a race commentator. I've quickly realised at the start of my iracing experience that for most low level races, I guess including F4 since it only requires a D license, just qualifying well and surviving the first lap is like 50% of the work to getting on the podium. So many crashes from bad divebombs and unaware drivers just makes racing on the first lap an absolute catastrophe.

  • @chrisrogerssimracing

    @chrisrogerssimracing

    Ай бұрын

    100% correct. Lap one can be a lottery. You really have to concentrate so hard (and be lucky) to survive it. I often try to just ease my pace ever so slightly, just to leave a bit more of a gap to the cars in front… just so I have a tiny extra bit of reaction time if there’s a crash. The incident at Sheene Curve in race one is a great example. Trouble is, you can’t control what drivers do behind you!

However you gave him the space to work around that corner but he didn't respect that and on the exit he didn't return the favor to you to give you space to work around, instead he act very disrespectfully and drove into your path blocking you and creating a contact with you! Not your fault, you were already on the racing line before him. He chose to be aggressive and take the exit racing line. As a matter of fact if he would’ve stayed on the inside he probably would’ve been in front of you anyway.

    Thanks Kevin, yeah you’re right. My aim was to stay alongside him to try and defend the position with the inside line at the next corner. But in reality, I’d probably have bottled it if I was anything less than fully alongside him… Graham Hill Bend is not a corner I like to take two-wide! Cheers mate

    He should've stayed to the right through the exit and not expect you to brake. I would've done the same

    Yeah, when I’m making a move like that, I’ll always try to wait until I’m a full car length ahead before closing a line off like that. You can sometimes get away with squeezing someone like that in a GT3, but not open wheelers when it’s so easy to get tangled up. So I definitely felt it was a bit reckless. Cheers 😃

    he cut across your nose, you kept your line. it's his fault for drifting out wide, most likely tried to make you back out so he would have the inside for bottom of the hill.

    Yeah, I’ve seen it a lot in GT3 racing lately, forcing someone to back out or nudging them off track by closing off the gap early. But it doesn’t work in the open wheelers, where it’s so easy to get tangled up!
