I’ve been in Studio 1 and Studio 2. They hold events there every year. Both times that I went there were several pianos used by the Beatles on display, such as the one used on Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. I highly recommend going if you’re a Beatles fan. It is surreal.

So funny, the first thing you noticed when walking into that very studio was the smell. I was in there back in 1990 during the a recording session in London and to this day I remember instantly noticing that peculiar smell when entering this huge space.

@@radiosant your wish is granted! the mono record was cut from tape by Sean Magee. Miles Showell only cut the 1/2 speed digital stereo mix, as he was off work with covid during most of this project.

@@radiosant Sean told me in an email that he cut it from tape. I believe him. I was just surprised to not see anything in the inner groove area but I'll look more closely!

That's such a beautiful box set. I can't wait to get my copy. My favorite album Odyssey and Oracle was recorded at Abbey Road. I can't imagine how it would feel to be in such a historic building where the legends like The Beatles recorded their music. Amazing story.

I'm not about to give up on the CD format, and actually still listen to multiple formats (even occasionally digging out cassette mix tapes I made 25-30 years ago). Music first, paraphernalia/technophilia second...

Michael, i so wish they would reissue the Mono box set of Beatles. I have the set on cd but as you know it's not the same Pretty cool that you got to hold the original tapes nice.

The other Night on UK TV, Uk artist Cliff Richard was interviewed at Abbey Road , talked about recordings made pre-Beatles 1958, so many groups recorded their its a music of legend. Mike you should check Out Cliff Richard he is the peter pan of pop still recording today at 80 Plus, he did not commercially crack America. Look forward to your next video.

I've had very good luck with GZ Media pressings. I buy a lot of them....the black vinyl is better than some colored formulations.

Every time I GZ produced records they are either bowl-warped or scuffed. All the vinyl records in the Rush Moving Pictures Super Deluxe boxset were warped, and I have a long list of products coming from GZ with faults. It is a gamble when you see this company name.

GZs lightweight pressings on their automatic presses… pretty dreadful. Same as for anything they DMM cut in-house. But I’ve done several projects with them, always sending in plates or lacquers cut elsewhere (Sterling Sound, Abbey Road) and have GZ do heavyweight pressings on the semi-auto hand operated presses. They come out perfect everytime. Nice, flat and fat, both sides flawlessly centered, and quieter surfaces than I’ve heard from some of the “audiophile approved” plants. What more could you want!

The SOUND: Compared to the 2009 mono CD, most tracks on the new mono CD sound a bit brighter. Could be EQ decision, who knows. Both CDs (2009 and new mono) are presented within 1.5dB of each other. Summary: both Revolver mono CDs 2009 and 'new' are printed at essentially the same volume level, and are NOT compressed. They are 2-3dB lower (meaning NOT clipping or compressed) than the 'new' Giles Revolver mix, on the new CD box set. Enjoy the mono's!

Since they're CD's, it's easy to rip a couple of tracks, open them in Audacity, Audition, etc, and check the dynamic range of their waveforms. I've stopped buying re-releases because they're always compressed and/or brick-walled/clipped.

@@Darrin.Crawford Hi, I'm guessing you're new to this. I'm also guessing you're referencing the mono LP in the box and not the 45rpm ep. The 2011 digitally sourced stereo box was cut from 24-bit digital transfers. It sounded "okay" (dynamic but airless). The 2014 mono box was cut by Sean from the original* tapes (no compression, minimal EQ), with no digital intermediary (* a new analog reel was created for Please Please Me). The sound is jaw-dropping wonderful. Transparent, sweet, dynamic. Dark where it should be, bright where it should be. If the mono LP here in the 'Revolver' box is cut from digital, at any resolution source, it will have that sonic thumbprint (and be somewhat compromised). The reason the 2014 all-analog mono box sells on the secondary market for $3000 is because it is as good a dub from the mono masters as you will hear EVER.

Thanks Michael, Do you still have communications with Giles? Would be informative in finding out why there is no DVD with this special edition. As a first generation Beatles collector, the visual record of their recording process is paramount. But I also feel fortunate that Giles is working on all these new mixes and very pleased to purchase what is offered anyway. The books alone are almost worth the investment I believe! Thanks ....PS will you ever do a Billy Joel review of his Vinyl Box Set Volume 1 that came out last Fall? I've only seen partial reviews from amateur aficionados and would value your opinions. Planning to pull the trigger on his Vinyl Box Set Volume 1 but have read mixed reviews, thanks enjoy your reviews and thanks for the entertaining comments:-) PSS Think I've heard you say you went to college in Boston? Not that my opinion means much, but I loved the BJ box set, the inner sleeves needed to be replaced and some of the discs had marks that did not affect the sound, but overall I absolutely love it.

Your right about Billy Joel, he's right up there with the best and I certainly would love someone to do a decent video review of this box set. I got my copy for £150, and at that price it was absolutely worth it, especially for the new Live album and the Booklet. Really hope they do a volume 2 as I don't have River of Dreams on vinyl, just CD.

I dunno, out of a few thousand who buy these box sets of new vinyl maybe 20% if that, are truly audiophile aficionados and the other 80% like us. I recall way back in the day of my record vinyl buying mostly in the early 60's..if a record skipped, I wouldn't even go back sometimes for a replacement!!LOL I'd just tape a nickel onto the tone arm and it would go smoothly thru. thanks again! That is a valid suggestion! However, in the case of "unboxings", speed and being first is essential. This box arrived and I dropped everything. I have since corrected the misinformation and the written review will not contain errors.

I love watching all these unboxings but being disabled and on social security I can't afford to buy any of them. I am so depressed. I LOVE VINYL and now I can't buy any more. I just wish I could get 1 copy of all the major rock classics somehow. Until I win a lottery I guess I can just dream. Enjoy
