I've been looking forward to this one Nick. Cheers!
I would love to see you do an ultra compact 3-way design, even if it was with an active crossover for phase and time alignment. The idea of a desktop-friendly 3-way, no bigger than a Speedster, is getting me daydreaming.

Kartesian needs to publish proven speaker design using their drivers😊
Seem like they have a good plan. I see it as being hard to get due to demand or they start to compromise to meet demand. They could also jack up the price after introduction. You see it all the time in car audio. That is mainly the reason I got into diy home audio to learn more about speakers.

Nick, been waiting on your review on these since you first mentioned them. I am sure this is already part of your list of questions but please ask about how he intends on setting up distribution in the US. As far as pricing, I was on the TLHP site a couple of weeks ago and the pricing didn't seem to out there. If I remember correctly one of their 4" drivers was around 70 Euros. I don't remember if it was the midrange or the Sub you showed in this video.
@Toid
3 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely correct. I think the pricing is very reasonable. I already talked to him about that, and they are being very selective with who they choose to distribute with. Hopefully, there will be a us distributor soon. But with how selective he is, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a while either.
incredible drivers, I use them in my cabs
Respect to manufacturers who care about quality and are proud of what they do. But I would hesitate to call this revolutionary. You would need a new speaker technology for that. Something that has never been done before that's a game changer.
@Toid

I agree. Their goal is to revolutionize the speaker industry in the next 5 years. They started with at least one patent called their dynamic spider. We talked about it in our live broadcast which I pinned as the first comment here if you're interested in it. Of course who knows if they will reach their goal. But I am glad to see manufacturers that are really trying to push it.

Absolutely. There's a lot of great types of speakers out there. What Kartesian is referring to is the actual drivers that makes up the speaker. So if you take a look at a 12-in woofer from 20-40 years ago, they're very similar to what you see today.

@C--A

Very good quality drivers, woofers, tweeters but they revolutionised them. For that they would need to release a product that was vastly better than similarly good rival products. A actual revolutionary product is the Wing Acoustics bookshelf speaker. Low sensitivity so only good for very small rooms. But their Wing Acoustics hummingbird mids/tweeter is game changing. Zero resonance distortion, a perfect waterfall chart. Once they scale it up to bigger size bookshelfs, floorstanders it will be a big step up for tweeters and also mids. Another revolutionary product though not in the market yet is Mayht driver which is much smaller than a conventional driver membrane speaker. It enables a very small footprint but with much more sound output. You will see much smaller speakers and subwoofers, even smartphones that have the sound quality output of decent Bluetooth speakers.
they beat i bet, looks like a psi or dc sub
it was my dream to have speaker company like that but someone already am late

There's a link in the description of the video
If you've watched a tour of any speaker manufacturer, B&W, JMLab, Eminence, etc. they all make speakers exactly the way described in this video. In fact, Eminence speakers match so well straight off the line that "matching" them is literally superfluous. I'm not saying this video is BS, I'm sure they are fine speakers, but physics is physics and I'm hesitant to think, Focal (JMLab) or Eminence or Morel or Peerless, etc., wow if they keep at it they might get as good at making wonderful drivers as this company who has been in business for less than 20 years and no one has ever heard of. THEY you see, have figured it out!
@Toid
3 жыл бұрын
absolutely, there's a lot of great companies that care about the quality product they put out. I actually did a video on Eminence and found their tolerances to be excellent. I completely agree that Eminence is a fantastic company. And there's a lot of really great companies that apply strict tolerances. And I try to applaud all of them. Kartesian does have a few patented technology's built into their drivers that are pretty sweet. One of them is their dynamic spider, which keeps TS parameters the same at high and low volumes. It's pretty impressive. But I think if you really listen to the owner of the company, get start to see the point at which he's coming from, which is just to continue to have this industry moving forward. Which I think everyone can get behind. If you take a look at the link that I pinned at the top, there's a great interview with him, where he talks about the technologies that they have coming out along with praising other companies that do things well.
Their websites are all jacked up. Couldn't find prices on anything. Someone needs to pay more attention to that detail. Or is this another case of, if you have to ask, you can't afford it?
Uh, JBL and Altec Lansing had 500Hz compression drivers 60+ years ago. I'm sure the Kartesian drivers are nice, but I don't see what's so impressive about 700Hz.
@Troypluslinz
3 жыл бұрын
What we need are compression drivers that are designed strictly for hifi. Compression drivers have improved significantly in 60 years but they are all nearly intended for high power handing and limited bandwidth.
Why would they put that shiny dust cap on the 2"? It just makes it look like any other cheap driver... Shame because if you look at everything else you can tell it's really high quality.
@Toid
3 жыл бұрын
It probably has something to do with the dampening for that particular driver. I'm sure the shiny part is a matter of preference. I actually kind of like it. But I can definitely understand why someone wouldn't like it.

My subwoofer rant. How can you call a speaker that is -3dB at 42 Hz a subwoofer? That is not even a great spec for a woofer. I'll admit that it is good for its size but "sub woofer"?
@johnhodgson5313
2 жыл бұрын
@Robert Jansen I admit you are correct as far as what is commonly accepted. I will also agree that the little speaker above does a very good job. The construction well thought out and executed. However I guess my argument is the dilution of language. The words "extreme", "ultra" and "awesome" now describe things that are barely above the mundane. Allowing that sub woofer means below woofer, I got a little cranky when I recently saw a 2 way speaker advertised as having a tweeter and a sub woofer.
As you can imagine… probably not affordable.
