I had a outdoor commercial job for a car wash. The owner only wanted to replace the drivers in speakers that are pre-existing. I ended up buying 30 or 40 Eminence for inch drivers for the job and I couldn't have picked a better speaker. The bill quality was awesome and the sound quality was even better.

I've been building custom Guitar Speaker Cabinets since 2015. I use ONLY Eminence speakers. The only time I've ever put in anything else is if a customer specifically requested a certain "other brand" speaker. Eminence speakers are usually cheaper, better built, and offer more options to tailor fit the cabinet build and sonic pallette. Can't beat them!!

Definitely an Eminence fan here. My mains each have a Delta Pro-12A in them and they are sweet for every db of their range. The trick is, using them with enough power to make those rigid surrounds and cones move. They will thump you to your core. These are very powerful, clean, professional drivers. I can't imagine even wearing one out over decades of residential, non-professional use. I would like to see more DIY builds with these. A 3-way with an 8" Eminence woofer would be nice, and would still be a ridiculously potent speaker in a residential setting.

Years back i had a set of WLM speakers (Aura active and Duo 18) They used Eminence except for the hf - price tag on those in Usa must have been at least +1800 Usd. There was alot of engineering involved (phase coherent - active filters etc) and they sounded incredible ! Pure high end with the Umpf Pro speakers can give you. I cant remember the exact tranducers used but it was not the extreme ones, that tells you Alot abot Eminence.

If money is no object then Woofer HDS-P830990 with tweeter DA25TX00-08. Drive units arranged in order of ascending cost. I am an Orthodontist by profession but into designing speakers and crossover networks for the past 30 years and designing cross over networks is my passion. Of the lot Peerless manufactures the best drive units when cost is taken into the equation and more importantly they can be matched for phase and frequency with just 4 electronic components, which is difficult in the case of Morel and the rest of the gang. To get parts at 1/3 cost compared to parts express head over to components-center, but I have not factored in shipping costs. Good luck with your build. When designing the cross over network make sure that you spend as much on the cross over network as you would on both drive units of one box. Do not skimp on the cross over network and phase matching if you want a wide sound stage and realism that makes the speakers disappear.

This is a reply to MAD GRUMPYMAN who asked clarifications on why coaxial speakers with a single component crossover crossing over to a tweeter, sounds good in automobiles. Well the answer has to do with ambient sound and how forgiving our ears are. The most silent a car is going to get, even if you own the Flying Spur is going to be at the bare minimum 56dB and the Rolls Royce Ghost is at 54dB. Whispers are 41dB and quiet means about 28dB. Do also note that the dB scale is logarithmic. Noise introduced by speakers, cables, crossover network components or amplifiers of average build means zilch in automobile audio. Sound stage is insignificant since the speakers are placed all around as in a home theater. If you want to melt the speakers away with impeccable sound stage then it has to be two channel audio amplifier with single voice coil in each speaker(full range driver) so as to do away with crossover network all together which means coaxial speaker drive units. Unfortunately physics and the cilia in our cochlea(audio pressure wave to electric converter in the cochlea of the ear) do not play ball. As a compromise one has to have 2.0 system at the bare minimum with a mid/woofer and tweeter in one speaker box with a cross over network and if one can afford it a 2.1 system crossed over at about 40Hz with a dedicated amplifier for the subwoofer if one listens to classical music or electronic dubstep but then the cost goes into the 30,000 dollar levels for the system. The single electronic component in a cheap car audio cross over network is usually a 2.5, 4 micro-farad bipolar capacitor. It functions to roll of electrical current to the tweeter below about 6000 Hz which is one hell of a compromise because the mid/woofer will likely have cone break up and peaks, above 6000-8000 Hz depending on the cone material. Interference between the speaker drive units in one box will cause peaks and troughs in the output but our ears are very forgiving to change in amplitude as long as it is consistent. I hope you know that humans above the age of 55 can barely hear anything above 12500 Hz anyway. As age advance harshness is the one sound attribute that humans cannot tolerate and all else is forgiven or not even discernible which is why high end valve audio sounds so good. Sound stage is the holy grail for good audio reproduction for older people and which is the most difficult thing to reproduce faithfully with the least number of electrical/electronic components. On a side note do you know that the silencer assembly (from exhaust port to exhaust tip of automobiles is the most difficult thing to design in a naturally aspirated automobile and which is what ricers meddle with first, by changing the endcan and the tube diameter. Similarly the cross-over network is the single most difficult component to design in loudspeakers especially when the aim is minimal crossover components and which is what speaker manufacturers skimp on. For good sound stage you just have to spend through your nose, no two ways about it, even if you have just 4 components in the cross over network. Super high end audio matches not only the drive units but also the speaker pair just like dampers erroneously called shock absorbers come in matched pairs as do tires of a single axle in race cars. Well I am veering off topic. Bye.

Music is something very complex....even more, when we are talking about (speakers)! How many times Have I heard that some woofers sound absolutely terrible....until I proved otherwise! Yes, I did it and I even went beyond whatever I heard from the greatest audio engineers because I knew that something was wrong! So one day I decided to buy a pair of 2 12 inches woofers and to build some speakers based on a pattern that I made that gives an incredibly deep and rich bass! You just can not imagine the face of the people who listened to the results! I showed them that all it takes is a nicely built and tunes cabinet with a port placed at the perfect place! I wish I could tell you more but I just can't give up all that I've been working hard for years and see the credits being taken by someone else!

In the UK there is better value for money due to shipping but the actual drivers are quite high in quality. I'm not sure vs Precision Devices, Faital Pro and B&C but they are pretty good if you limit them properly. The kappalite bass drivers are very efficient but need a larger than normal box to get the most out of them. I'm using 3 cubic feet or more for a 12 tuned to 40Hz. For the 15 it's 2 x this for the same performance but 3dB more efficient. They even did custom drivers for companies like Barefaced - with performance of the 3012LF and 3012HO rolled into one.

"Good on yer, mate!" for giving attention to sample-to-sample consistency. IMO this is a key to great multichannel imaging, especially in the time domain, yet some prominent disciples of Toole insist that every meaningful speaker measurement can be taken from a single sample. These same folks even listen-test a single speaker and think that some delocalization of its perceived sound source is a virtue. I can't help thinking that would be a predictor of a smeared image when 2 or more channels are in play, annoying for music and fatal for cinema. Keep up the good work!

Yes definitely make some good drivers isn't that what tekton use in their speakers. What would work better in the coaxial driver setup is changing the mount, is it steel or aluminium? I would make the mount out of Birch or mahogany, you can get wooden pulp that you can use in 3D printers have you got access 3D printer, you make it out of that would be good! and inserted epoxy it into a brass tube thread. Cut down a lot of resonance give it a go let me know how you get on. Put a brace as well in the cabinets and with same Blu-Tack so the tweeter magnet is pushing against it

  • @DJ_Force

A speaker is basically a cone on a spring. The firmer the suspension and the lighter the moving mass, the higher the natural vibration of the speaker. A speaker with a lose suspension and heavy cone/voice coil will naturally vibrate at a lower frequency than one with a tight suspension and a light cone/voice coil.

Also the efficiency has much to do with that mass, magnetic field - gap at voice coil and how tight that suspension is so we can find 3” woofers designed to produce lower frequencies than 6” drivers but at much lower effectiveness. We can also find a 6” midrange which is extremely efficient by comparison to a 6” woofer or subwoofer. Another interesting thing to consider is how a speakers individual components sum up if it’s best used in a sealed or ported box or even open baffle where it has no box at all. Many car speakers are essentially geared at infinite or open baffle otherwise they would suffer mechanical damage if the suspension parts were made for a sealed cabinet for example. Blah blah 😆 fun hobby, the sky is the limit for creativity and how much time and money one can spend. Eminence has been pretty old fashioned design wise until most recently, great quality but generally low tech and sometimes unfavorable midrange spikes in the response curve in the pro driver lineup and this is why they can claim a very high efficiency rating. - good for a stage monitor and not a reference system

Funny you should mention... In investigating the feasibility of a high efficiency speaker system Eminence drivers are leading the way in the bass drivers (Beta 15A). If I didn't already have a pair of JBL 075s they would probably be a real contender on that end too. I am glad to hear the quality is there. P.S I used one of their guitar drivers in a project many years ago.

Problem is they have a horrible reputation, they have made drivers for hundreds if not thousands of bad sounding speakers. Reminds me of this high end audio place I went to in the 90's, like many they allowed you to trade in your old gear for upgrades and they had a room filled with just Klipsch speakers people returned, the expensive models. One guy was doing that while I was there, he actually downgraded to a NHT superzero surround sound system and said it was vastly superior.

A magnet is basically a magnet. It obviously needs to meet the specs, which was said. But you're not going to get a magnet from China and a magnet from America that are going to make the speaker sound any different. And yes, eminence uses mature American trees in their paper cones. Most manufacturers do not use mature trees which does make a difference.
