Revolution in Portugal caused by Eurovision song contest!

Ойын-сауық

It may seem far-fetched but the Eurovision Song Contest helped overthrow a forty-year old fascist dictatorship. On April 25 1974, the Eurovision entry from Portugal was played on Portuguese radio as a signal for the army to leave barracks and seize control of the country. Hard to believe now but Portugal and Spain in the mid-1970s still had fascist dictatorships. The song was less fortunate at the actual contest where it gained hardly any points and ABBA romped to victory with Waterloo.
