Reviving these 2004 Air Jordan 13 BReds! Complete reglue! Sailboat's Sneaker Restorations

On today's episode of Sailboat's Restorations, I'll be doing a complete reglue on a pair of 2004 Air Jordan 13 BReds!
.
This pair comes in from a close buddy from the Sole Supremacy Beater box group, Shane! Shane reached out to me knowing that I have been going heavy on restorations recently and asked if I could do a reglue for him. I was happy to get in more work and gladly accepted the job
.
Outside of the reglue, I had to make and install replacement air units as well as revitalize the suede of both the midsole and the uppers. Being that these shoes were from 2004, some of the materials were a lot more delicate and challenging to deal with.
.
This was definitely a difficult project for me but, I certainly learned a lot and was able to improve my overall restoration skills!

I like them clamps u used here. I have been using the shoelace method and feel it's pretty played out. Looks like ima invest into some nice clamps off to Amazon I go. Great work bro whenever I'm doing a reglue on whatever retros I know this channel and John m channels are gonna have done whatever specific retro I'm working on. Thanks for sharing with us

appreciate that so much! I still have so much to learn but hope that other people can learn from my mistakes and learnings along the way. These clamps are definitely money but even more important is time of heat application before bonding... I had been overheating so much and recently learned that less is more lol

Thank you man. I just purchased some 13's myself and they came in today. The soles are completely separated smh held on by some loose dry glue. I was able to just pull them right a part. They look brand new tho so I wanted to see how the repair process would look and you made it look easy but I know it's not at all

let me know when you do! I would love to see the results. Best of luck, I found 13s challenging to work on due to the microfiber midsole but if you skive the surfaces to remove the old glue, it helps a TON! I will never use acetone or the dremel on a surface like that again lmao

I have the same ones the out soles are coming off in the middle. The mid soles are opening up and some said they can repair them so the put resin and hardener quik cure and they darkened some of the suede. Bow much is to send these to you and restore them?

A full reglue would start at $175. If there were any other things that needed to be done (such as air unit replacement) that would be an additional cost. Feel free to contact me on IG with pictures to discuss possible project execution.

I got a big natural grey 13 restoration to do and I’m nervous dealing with that suede and prep work. Any tips now that you’ve learned from your mistakes?

  • @SailboatSupplies

So as it turns out, that is actually a microfiber material, almost like a felt (I learned this far after this restoration). Rather than use acetone and a dremel to remove the glue, I have learned its better to SKIVE the old glue off as best as possible and that's the best way to prep the suede-like material

Great work man!!! I just got a pair of these breds, used and didn't notice a slight separation in tow area between upper and bottoms..what glue can I use and can I just touch it up with like a q-tip?.its a small area..

  • @SailboatSupplies

You might need a fine tip applicator. You would want to use barge superstik or barge infinity cement imo. Prep work is the most important part to make sure you have clean surfaces. Depending on the age of the shoes, it’s very possible the whole thing might need to be reglued however- many shoes separate only at one visible point but the glue is too old and fragile and will break down around the whole shoe

Where can I buy new sole for 13😊

  • @SailboatSupplies

    @SailboatSupplies

unfortunately, there is no place to buy a brand new original sole unless you purchase a new pair of jordans and detach the sole. My recommendation is to look into team jordan sneakers that utilize the same construction as you will likely be able to find those for cheaper. Otherwise, you will need to find another AJ13 with the same sole and use that as a donor. I *think* that jordan 6rings use the same OUTSOLE (and outsole only) but I couldn't be sure so definitely dont quote me on that...

You can shave it down a little bit; I’ve seen many people do this using mens grooming products. As far as cleaning, I would recommend “Just Suede” by NuLife kicks. This is one of the best cleaners for suede out there. As with ANY suede or faux suede, you’re going to want to hit it with a dry clean first. Follow that with a clean from just suede, and finish with mink oil to help with restoration of the color and finish. The cleaning itself will not remove the fuzzy look, that will only be done by grooming the material.

Would not recommend baby oil as it can damage suede, faux suede, and microfiber materials. Mink oil is a far better oil for conditioning suede and leather materials that will not damage it.
