4 years ago in your video about the last ride before changing this bad boy for a K24, I made a comment about me buying an FA5 with 200k miles on it, gotta say I still have the car full bolts on + tune and I have 0 regrets about it, still drive it daily and now even my 2.5 years old daughter loves to get a drive on it for sleeping! the 8th gen SI platform are just perfect cars, seeing this K20 making a comeback 4 years later is majestic.

I love the Z3 rev out which is why I'll probably never drop a k24 in mine. I'm just starting out my channel. 14 years too late but whatever.

Actually doing the same to my z3 right now. Just got the heads back had one bent valve. Costed $350 to get the heads done. About to send my block to the same shop to get work done with some new pistons etc. Do you have any recommendations for any pistons that are oe spec or maybe even something slightly bigger?

What do you consider high mileage? My K20z3 is 286K. Love the car, I just replaced Lower Upper Arms and Steering Tie Rod ends all original from 04/2007 when I bought new. Was overdue....drives like new. 🙂

@@frosty212 I'd be lying if I told you mine with 286K doesn't burn oil. It does...Regardless of changing the oil every 5K and the the PCV valve. Is what it is, oil is cheap. Engines are not. 🙂

I ran my K20 without oil when I drove home from work with a major oil leak and it still runs. I might need to replace some bearings and set the valve height because it makes some strange noises now.

Depends on what your goals are honestly if you want something fun but still a reliable daily then I would rebuild the bottom block, new bearings, pistons if yours are good and want to save cost get new piston rings, arp bolts, and the type s oil pump. Get the head and block leveled by machine shop and go from there.

@@franciscolozada1059 the car is my winter beater so I'm not sure how much more money I want to put into it. All the oil leaked out because I started it when it was -50 out and the oil pressure switch and VTEC solenoid both cracked.

@staticsebaa personally, I was all about the k20/k24 frank for the longest. After I conducted some research, I just like keeping the full long block from one or the other. I think it is more reliable that way. Not saying the k20/24 is a slouch by any means, but from the ones I’ve seen, they put down 230hp or so. K20z3 bolt ons/tuned put down a solid 220 while k24’s full long blocks are more like 225/230hp. Miss my k24
