Reviving my Algae-Infested Reef Tank
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
A few weeks ago I left home to go on a family vacation, when I got back home I was shocked with the state of my reef tank. Algae took over my reef tank and I couldn't see any corals! In this video we're reviving my algae-infested tank by doing maintenance on it.
A few topics we cover in this video are:
- How to get rid of algae in a reef tank
- How to do a water change on an aquarium
- How to maintain a reef tank
🔲 40 Gallon Shallow Reef Tank
Reef Tank Setup: Optic White Rimless Aquarium by ILA
Reef Tank Filtration System: None - No Sump - No Skimmer
Reef Tank Lighting: Red Sea Reef LED 90
Reef Tank Maintenance: Once a week

*Hi everyone.* Sorry for my absence on social media the past few months, some things happened that shifted my attention away from making content. In June, my 68 year old grandmother was diagnosed with cancer after she went to the doctor for a numb hand. The cancer originated from one of her lungs and had already spread to the brain (4 tumors + a lot of fluids) and most likely to her lymph nodes and thyroid as well. It is treatable, to extend life.. but not curable. The doctors were quite slow with tests and scans and her condition got worse fast, likely due to the warm weather and the brain fluids putting pressure on her brain. Over the past 2 weeks she had her first round of chemo and 5 days of radiation therapy. She seems to be improving a lot, thank god! She’s strong and one hell of a fighter! This all hit hard, given how close I am with my grandmother as I’ve been visiting her (almost) daily my entire life. We are trying to do things with the family like going out for dinners and we recently went on this vacation, that really helps keep our spirits up! We hope to be able to do this for years to come WITH her! All of your prayers are welcome and I hope you understand my absence on here, I am trying to get back on track but now you know what is happening. ~ Danny

Haha thank you!! I try my best!
Very timely video, my tank did the same thing, it went from glam to glum in 4 days, all four sides were covered with algae, I could not even see in the tank and my PO4 is 0.07. So I have cleaned all 4 sides and install a new sock, getting ready for a water change. I like the idea of filter floss around the powerhead.

Filter floss around the power heads is great, gets rid of all the debris within hours. :D
Beautiful ❤
Mixing can be made simple with a wave maker! Constant movement and you don’t have to work yourself out!

No. Phosphate / Nitrate bombs. 😉
Your fresh salt water doesnt have to be the exact temperature when doing A small WC. Corals n fish will be fine. Your display will Maybe see a degree in difference if that.
How often do you do water changes? I’d love to restart my tank using your method.

@DannysAquariums

I buy my rodi from a fish store. If you have one a few minutes from your house it’s not worth all the hassle of buying the system, storage unit and supplies to make your own. Let alone count in the time you put into setting it up and maintaining it. 😉

Where do you get those types of shallow tanks?
@-Tholos-

These are made for freshwater you can try looking for one of the following brands: ILA, UNS, ADA, WIO they all sell this type of tank.
@DannysAquariums

Yep, tank in the middle was made by ILA. The other two shallows I have are custom.
Fritz definitely likes sponsoring the more popular reefkeepers, though be careful if you use their salt, could cause some problems later on, i like to use red sea salt. Also the tanks is looking good, though didnt you have a nemenzophyllia in there before or am i thinking of someone else?

@DannysAquariums don't get me wrong, it should be fine but my LFS had a water parameters or coral dying issue, forgot ecactly what it was though. Though don't listen to me, it should be fine, though after that i switched to red sea, just to be safe 😅
Top aquarium ! Skimmer maybe helped ….
@DannysAquariums

Thanks! A skimmer might help keep the tank clean a little bit longer, but I like to keep 'em low tech. There's no room for a skimmer either hehe, no sump! :D
