Hi Danny, I have a question. can you grow corals under only white leds? like the ones you would have on a freshwater planted tank. I have seen people do kenya trees and mushrooms under freshwater leds, but what about other stuff like zoas? I know you wouldn't get great colour off them though. Thoughts?

My routine for my 30 gallon reef tank is every two weeks a 5 gallon water change clean the glass every week I have a late problem right now so I scrub off the rock and dose 😂

My girlfriend doesn't understand why I would watch Danny do maintenance right after I did the same on 4 different systems

Polycarbonate sheets make for a good lid, because it doesnt bend much. But it does absorb some light, so you should look up the percentage it absorbs and adjust your lights accordingly. I use it on all my tanks and it works like a charm.

1:36 I'm sure that if you just get much thicker sheets of acrylic they won't bend. Buy the thickest ones you can find and ask them to cut them to the size you need them. 6mm or something like that 👍 - Ramón 🇲🇽 Edit: 22:30 I've heard some people call it squeegee.

I purchased clear mesh and small suction cups with a notch in them for a cheap lid. 20$ and keeps everything inside.

My favorite tank right now is the left side one! Maybe a big green cabbage coral on the open right part. In english that cleaning device is called a squeegee (skwee - gee) haha, great word... Take care!

Egg crate with acrylic sheets attacked on top via a zip- tie or a spot of super glue. it's what i did for my 20 long reef, just try to get some flush cut nipper, for when you cut the egg crate to fit each tank.

Acrylic tops will bend due to moisture. Use polycarbonate instead. Similar weight, but dont absorbe moisture and dont bend.

love these style of vlogs. There's Kraken reef that does custom awesome lids.

Buy light diffusers and custom cut them to fit each system. I have 2 reef tanks,50cal low bow and 6ft long 100 gallon fish on salt 💧. They work perfect as the lights have no issues with penatration to the btm. I bough them at home depot. They come white ,but you can spray paint with acrylic black paint. Nice setups. Happy reefing 😊 It's called a squeegee.

Using a small return pump with hose is so much easier to pump water back in great aquariums tho Danny as usual👍

Polycarbonate (a common brand name is Lexan) won't warp like acrylic.

Have to use open top for gas exchange. Do you not use auto top offs?

Yes. I’m looking for something with openings of course. I don’t want to seal the aquariums. 😜 No, I do not use auto top off systems. I want to use as little equipment as possible! :)

This is the answer. Make sure to get it in sheet form and not the cheaper double walled variety due to worse light penetration and dirt accumulation between the walls. It also won't get discoloured over time.
