While you were working, I was thinking about the minds of the people who handed down this tradition to you. What were their minds like? Who made subtle changes along the way to today’s method? Did they wonder about the ways to sit down around the work, or turn their body while holding the rod along with more basic design ideas to this handmade loom to achieve more stability without giving up the authenticity of fiber and man made quality? Do the fibers fray and fly in the beginning of processing and that’s why you wear the fine mask early on? In any case, I admire the sheerness of your finished work. Thank you for sharing your heritage with all of us.

Thank you for your kind words. Our predecessors, who cherished and passed down this tradition, also refined their skills through various improvements. They, too, have continued to hone their techniques while inheriting this spirit, striving to create beautiful works. I am delighted that we can share this heritage in this way, and I am honored by your appreciation.

Cool to see how the loom is basically same around the world. My mother works in an arts & crafts shop with several of them, even weaved me a rug as a gift years ago.
Oh how I’d love to spend time there learning as much as they would be willing to teach me. So many crafts can be self taught, but serious weaving looks like it take a lot of learned skill, then you can develop your own skill. So interesting.

Bit of translation error 13:25 Operate the pedals to move not reed, should be shafts. (‘ Dressing the loom’ Yarn was threaded through the eyelets of ‘heddles’ attached to the shafts which are raised & lowered by the peddles.) Sweet how the reed detaches from the beater on this loom. Western loom, reed stays in the beater at a painfully awkward height to work on. & 15:00 cloth is rolled up onto the ‘cloth beam’. Beautiful weaving.👍

😊 I do a vastly more simple form of heddle weaving. Warping up the machine is the longest hardest and most pains taking part of that weaving. I almost never get it right the first time. Doing all that prep work first is amazing. The little marker you used to show where you were in the pattern is a good idea. I must use that.
