This is the video that brought me to your channel so points to the film for at least doing that:) As a big fan of Garland, I also don't know what to make of "Men." Like yourself, I had hoped over the years it would reveal deeper ideas than "men are bad." Has Garland ever spoke about his intentions, do you know? I have to at least give the film credit for the fact that years after it's release, I'm still thinking about it.

It sounds like we both have had a very similar experience with the film. I have watched a behind the scenes video on the blu ray where Garland talks about his intentions. From what I gathered he just wanted to utilise the different characters to communicate different forms of toxic masculinity and intertwine that with the green man mythology. I don’t think I’ll forget about it either and so I give it credit for that but this second watch felt so much more empty and disappointing to me. Thanks for another great comment it’s always great to have these conversations about films :)

Children of Men by Alfonso Cuarón is another underated gem that I highly recommend
