I've been using a pair of Retra Pro Max this week in Raja Ampat. Using eight batteries per strobe, I find that I can easily shoot for two or three dives before having to change batteries. They last a lot longer than the Nikon Z8 battery!

Having a TTL electronic system automatically benefits manual (M) mode shooters, as the optical signal analysis is incredibly precise. This ensures reliable triggering even with less-than-ideal fiber optic cables. Moreover, when shooting with the strobe off-camera, simply removing the black cap from the optical sensor enables it to detect signals effectively, especially when positioning the strobe behind objects like coral fans or inside wrecks.

I like the retras and really would have liked to have some when getting my kit together. But they were a bit out of my price range. I got a really good deal on a pair of SUPE strobes, totally agree on not needing TTL.

I can see Alex thinking "bastard button" to himself as Matt talks about the Inon strobes 😂

Matt doesn’t worry about battery life as he only shoots 15 photos on a dive
