Reviewing the 1/18 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (2020) by Solido & Maisto
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Solido has tapped into Maisto's muscle car market as a competitor and delivered a great alternative in the same MSRP price range, with pros and drawbacks. The most obvious drawback being, that only the doors open, but the pros coming in form of better carbon fibre wheel detailing, a more detailed interior (especially seats with white trim), and unique color options such as red with white stripes not offered by Maisto.
In this review, I show you not one, but TWO such Solidos, the other being the white with blue stripes carbon fibre track pack edition (which Maisto has also made, but NOT as the carbon fibre track pack) and in the end, especially if you are in Europe and are stuck in a dilemma whether to buy the Solido or Maisto as both cost the same price in this part of the world, I hope to make your decision easier this way.
Pros:
- full raised windows
- defroster lines on rear windshield
- white trim on seats
- detailed carbon fibre texture on the wheels
- silver painted lugnuts
- perforated spoiler struts
- thin exhaust tips (realistic looking)
- red reverse lights above the exhausts
- rear seats removed just like the carbon fibre track pack does on the real car
- detailed buttons on both sides of the steering wheel
Neutral:
- tinted windows
- front brake disc moves through the caliper, but rear disc does not
- gloss black front splitter rather than matte black
Cons:
- only the doors open (like on almost all solidos)
- no suspension
- headlights fog up when viewed from a certain angle
- front wheel swivel axis kinda low

@@ImperialDiecast Thank you!
Red with White for the win.
Really good models: quality vs. price is the best !!!! Greeting MM Poland
Both are very interesting, the metallic-blue one with white stripes from Maisto is a cool color combination. From Solido I'd pick the red one with white stripes. Of course the Chinese editions are also very interesting - except for the import issue.
Bought 3 Maistos from Costco in three different shades for $14.99 a piece, then bought a Solido for $39.99 online with free shipping. A week after the Solido arrived, I sold all three Maistos and have kept the Solido one, it looks and fell better than Maisto's version.
I just have to have an opening hood!
I sure will be getting all three different colors from Solido sooner or later.
Do you think a G.I. joe 1/18 scale can fit inside the driver sit?
Huh, a rather familiar duel. :)
6:25 that's actually incorrect because I have seen some non-Chinese Maisto Shelby GT500s with raised windows. EDIT: I actually did find one with the side windows. Non chinese version in blue metallic with white stripes. So the myth is busted. 8:58 I notice that the Solidos have a decal of the stripes applied as seen by the uneven application of the stripes below the front grille. That's another drawback over the Maisto as the stripes are painted-on on that model. The carbon fibre on the rear wing is also a decal which will surely peel off over time as it does not have any clear coat over it. 17:58 on the Maisto CFTP track pack GT500, there are no rear seats and the front seats are also bucket seats while on the standard GT500, there are rear seats and the front seats are different. They took care of that detail.
✔️🔝😎

As mentioned in the video, the only place where you can order them is from Europe, that being Solido's official website or other retailers like CK Modelcars. So you really have to evaluate what kind of models are you interested in and is this undoubtedly more expensive variant by Solido for the people in the US more appealing to you (could set you back up to 70 USD depending on shipping expenses). I personally would go with the Solido as the compromised Maisto with it's arguably more features, but less detailing doesn't really add anything for the overall appearance, quite the opposite in fact. As the massive panel gaps is still an occuring thing with Maistos and raised suspension may ruin the stance. For pure display, go with the Solido version, that is if the end price is acceptable to you as Maisto versions in the States (as said in the video) can even drop below 20 USD in certain times for certain retailers. If opening features is something you particularly want from a model then the Maisto is the only option as no one else produces such models.
