I thought the first performance was excellent for beginner level. We wouldn't start to learn Jion until after 3 - 4 years training. Most of our early training is spent with the Heians, Naihanshin etc. Thanks

Very nice video and honest review of your progress - I periodicaly tape most of my kata and allways find something (lots of) even after many years ;) I have one thing as an (big) improvement on your channel. I think it's unique that we have a karate channel speaking great english but also is a native japanese speaker. I would love it if you stick to the "real" words instead of the english translation e.g. Kiba Dachi / Horse ride stance. In my dojo in Germany we just use the japanese words but of course the pronounciation is a bit off - so we all could learn how to pronounce the japanese words correct. Cheers and stay safe

I'm somewhat of a "casual" karate practitioner, but I've recently been recording myself practicing a lot more. Really helps to iron out all those weird bad habits that you wouldn't notice otherwise.

Thank you so much for inspiration I am the only white belt in my class. And sometimes I feel lost because they go to fast.Am used to punching with the shoulder and hip from boxing. But shotokan karate seems hard to learn.

very beautiful video. Above all I find it remarkable and commendable that you judge yourself very realistically. And to my shame I have to admit that even after 6 months you were already much better than I currently with 6 years of training :-(

6 months of training Jion as a white belt. That was really good! From the looks of it, it seems you had some training at a different dojo or something.

6 months!? You're better than some green belts at my university karate club (we all came together from different dojos). Do you have any tips on how to train beginners? 😅 Like, how were you trained back then?

I think it is funny how the feeling and method of connection are so different in the different branches of Shotokan when all the university clubs were supposed to be overseen by Master Funakoshi. Evidently he allowed his senior students to develop their own Karate at their university clubs.

How come you were able to do Jion after 6 months? Looked very good! When I was a white belt, I could barely place one foot in front of the other and punch at the same time haha. How is the training organised in Japan? Do you start by learning every Kata?

I thought Jion kata was for a very advanced level since when you are in white belt you usually learn Heian kata, I have about 5 or 6 months and I practice Heian Nidan. I'm surprised

You probably should consult your son's coach about what are they doing wrong so they can "fine tune" their performance.

And there are alot of channels who explain katas step by step like a channel called "Wael Shueb" which could help your sons too.

I'm not yusuke, but in my personal opinion, it depends on the mentality of each person. Some kids are really unfocused and take really long to do these things seirously, while others are naturally more drawn to it and give it their all. I'd say the best time is when they are old enough to enjoy and see its value in it, so that they can truly apply themselves.

You did a great Kata, but Im surprised because you were wearing a white belt and were performing an advanced kata, I had to do Jion Kata for my brown belt test (3rd kyu) after 3 years in karate.
