Important context for the $40 Louisville Slugger: When you buy a "GENUINE MIX UNFINISHED NATURAL" $40 wood bat online, you cannot specify a turn model - and even worse, you can't even specify what type of wood you're getting (Ash/Maple/Birch). So you might receive a C271 ash drop-4, or your might receive a 243 uncupped maple drop-2. We got lucky enough to find a Maple c243 version of this bat at our local sporting goods store, but the vast majority of these bats seem to be Ash C271's with tiny barrels (and very fragile ash from our experience). This "mixed" bat product is a common method used by wood bat companies to offload their "blem" bats or sub-par cuts of wood.

One thing though: My coaches back in the late 70s would have anyone who threw a bat like the demonstrator does running laps in the hot Texas sun. Keep it up, everyone. great content, great channel.

Adirondack (I know it is a region in New York state) was the name of a bat company prior to Rawlings purchasing this company. It was Louisville's biggest competitor. It also had signature model bats like Louisville up until about 1980.

After playing a couple of seasons in a men’s wood bat league I’ve found that most of these cheap bats are just a gamble. Sometimes you can get a hot bat that’s well weighted, sometimes you get junk like that Rawlings. We do allow Baum bats so that’s what I bought strictly so I don’t have to worry about breaking it. I’ve definitely hit with some teammate’s bats that are hotter, and a few that are junk as well.

With the Louisville wood bat you have in this video they have a 45 dollar version that the barrel is light blue with the unfinished handle then a full on black one as well. I am looking at the blue one to hit for fun . And I was raised around men's slow pitch softball and high school baseball from my older brother but he liked metal so did I but I want to get a wood bat easy on the wallet and fun to hit plus I am in-between sucking at softball to play at softball but definitely not at all okay at baseball. Any suggestions for a good wood bat like these 40 dollar wood bats.

According to Rawlings, their blem bats that you can buy online only have a messed up logo or two, and that the bat itself has nothing wrong with it. The "blemmed" model you can buy from Rawlings is the Big Stick Maple.

When you look at those cheaper bats they are usually bigger, ie less taper and a longer/bigger barrel. That's because they are made from less dense wood that doesn't hit the ball as hard and is more prone to breaking. That and the wood quality is presumably free of defects. So that billet or blank can start off the same size but there are substantial differences in terms of weight, so someone correct me if I'm wrong but you need to sort these blanks for what can become a C271 turn model vs a Lindy vs a Big Stick or whatever. These free of defects and dense pieces of wood must be the most expensive.

We got a Rawlings OA1 Pro label for $70 at the Rawlings store. It is a really good bat, but it is normally $150. Picked up a used Stinger AP5 birch and sounds sooo good. We have a bunch of 33” Wood bats. need to get on field and do a review. Rawlings Pro OA1, Mine,Stinger AP5, Old Hickory, Victus MH13, Cass River Hickory. Will, Rohan tops out about 95 off pitching now. Did 92.6 at a PBR showcase in July. Hit 87 off the tee the other night at practice. Still warning track power.. 😆😁 He turned 14 a month ago.

I also feel these are for different types of players. Like the cheap bat could be for a weekend wood bat league guy, or a BP bat or a cage bat, or its the first wood bat you buy on high school or something, I don't see guys buying $40 bats if they are playing in a serious league, I mean there are some in between bats you can buy also, but unless you break alot of bats I don't see you using these in serious competition

I mean Louisville slugger is one of the oldest bat companies so that makes sense their bats are good. But you also have ro remember not every cut of wood is the same and they don't hit balls with each bat before it leaves. So you could get a bat that is stronger than normal or has a different sound or feel. I would assume it's pretty consistent usually, I would imagine Louisville slugger and allot of wood bat companies control the whole process down to the trees.

The finish was ROUGH on some parts when I first got it. They didn't even sand it down properly before sending it out the factory. From what I understand, the biggest difference in woods is the density, pro grade can all come from the same tree but only some of that will be kept for pro only do to it being A vs A+ from the same cut. You can cut 6 blanks from the same "pro grade" tree and only 2 will be good enough to go MILB or above, the other 4 will be sold as pro models to the public.
