I'm ordering two, in different dial colours in a few days. I have three other Timex watches I've bought in the last 2 months. They are surprisingly accurate. Sometimes they are priced well below list if you are patient, and look around. They were so affordable that I'm going to invest in a small toolkit, and caseback press with the savings. Then I can do battery changes myself on the Timex's, and the higher end quartz watches I own. As for "ambience" ... buy a watch for what you like, and what it can do for you. Trust me nobody else notices, or cares about what's on your wrist unless it's on fire.

Simply a beautiful and user friendly watch. Slightly loud ticking but no drama. I just love it.Perfect watch.

I just ordered one based on this review. I currently have an expedition field metal watch and it performs great. I never have trouble with Timex which is why I never hesitate to order another one. Excellent value for the price paid.

Say what you will about Timex, but my Expedition has been on my wrist through rain, snow, and mud. It's been in my wrist when I've fallen out of rafts and climbed over mountains. It still looks good and still keeps great time. Plus it's at a price point where if it where to float off my wrist down a river I wouldn't freak out.

I have a Timex Expedition series watch I bought over 10 years ago that has the same case dimensions and design. Great watch and quite durable.

I have this watch for about a year now, and I love it.

Nice review & recommendation, buddy ...I may well get me one of these as my weekender.

My only criticism of this model ( I own 2) is the loud ticking and the bouncing second hand that does not hit the second marks. Price wise its a good value and is accurate.

I have a couple of these, and use them for work and as a watch for the gym. I work outdoors in all weather. it is very rugged and durable. The indiglo is perfect too. For the price, it's perfect for me.

Very good review. I’ve just ordered mine. It was the brass case you mentioned that appealed to me as my clipper compass should not be affected. Plus I still get a metal case, rather than my plastic cased timex camper. 👍

I bought one a couple days ago -the black one - and it is amazing.

great job on the review and great job to timex on a design love the dial and strap color , I love weekender and generally don't have issues with size but that is a really nice improvement ..

yeah..I use to have among others a timex - electric ..which was a pre-quartz battery watch ..eventually sold it and never made a video :) ..but I like timex ,has a lot of history

I really like Bertucci watches, they are pretty much the best cases you can get for around $100, very nice sculpted Ti. I'll definitely check out your review when it comes out.

One of my best and most reliable watches is my 1970s Timex automatic. Keeps better time than my modern Tissots or Seikos.Only my Orients keep better time.

Really cool watch. I recently purchased the Scout T499619J. The case has a gunmetal finish to it. I put a camouflage strap from Crown & Buckle on it and it looks spectacular !! I have received far more compliments on it than I have on any of my other much more pricey watches. You can't beat this watch for the price !!!

Great review. I just got my Expedition Scout in the mail today and absolutely love it. I got the off white face/brown leather version but swapped out the straps for a NATO strap. One thing I noticed on mine (and in your video) is that there's a shadow/ dark area on the bottom off the face when indiglo when engaged. I was thinking mine was defective but it seems to be common all around. Please advise further if you know any more about this. Thanks

555 - I just picked up the "Timex Acaida". This watch came out this year ( 2015 ) and has a plastic case, and a plastic dial. Reminds me a lot ( and is the only watch that Timex has made to date the most closely matches ) my 1989 Timex military windup watch. Of course, it's a quartz watch, but still, take a look at at and tell me what you think ! I've had mine for about 2 month now, and it is more accurate than my $350 Traser P6600 swiss quartz watch ! hahah

knifeforkandaspoon Green is alway looks good (to me), and wont get that "dirty" look after a while since the darker color conceals stains and dirt better than tan.

Very good video! I own a 49271. It is I.S.O. certified shock proof and water resistant to 100m. Mine also has a snap off case back. Do you think that it can handle 100m water resistance considering it is a snap off case back and not a screw down?

Its nice, needs to go on Dark Grey NATO... But I wonder, is there a quartz model like this with that Dark Grey/Black dial and White (only) hands but in a "stainless steel case" in this ultra-budget segment?

I just recently bought Timex's intelligent quartz fly-back chronograph and it's excellent, however it's definitely not a 30 dollar watch. The rest of my watches are either automatic or mechanical but sometimes it nice to just put on a watch you don't have to wind or set. Timex has some nice time pieces and it; "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking"

I was wondering...can they upregulate the ticks per second of the second hands on quartz movements? That way you would get the look of a mechanical movement paired with the accuracy and precision of quartz movements...in a way the best of both worlds, right?

Saw your review and was convinced to get one! Loving it but is it normal for the indiglo to not glow at the bottom portion because it has been bothering me it doesn't light up there :(

Hey 555 Gear, is this watch durable (what activities can be done wearing this watch)? I read a lot of the Amazon reviews mentioning that this watch is poorly constructed and the crown would break after a few days of wearing.

It is funny that I can hear the ticking sound every time the camera captures the watch

My expedition is WR 100m. The other ones I've seen recently are only WR 50? Did they change them?

The date can't be set with the crown, unless you forward the hours, it comes in the manual.

What is the difference between Lumibrite and Superluminova?

I'm actually very torn between this and the Seiko 5 SNK809. I like the aesthetics of both, but don't know wether I'd miss having a feature such as the indiglo or not. At the same time, I'm also wondering how easy it is to tell the minutes on the seiko vs. the timex. Timex minute hand has that pointy edge that goes all the way to the lines for minutes, which the seiko doesn't. Any input?

Daniel M.T. The Seiko is a smaller watch. If it was me, I would get the Seiko because I have girly hands, also I prefer an automatic to a quartz watch.

Daniel M.T. but the seiko snk is only 30m water resistant thus making it not very durable in rain and wet jobs

I have timex Indiglo back plate no. W9 , Indiglo light appeared permanently if you change battery and screwed up the 4 screws and if you loose the right down screw the light . Indiglo doesn’t work with the crown , this type of timex should be reset ? If reset is required where is the reset point .

I’ve had the Seiko 5 made in Japan model for a year and 2 months and I’m looking at this watch to replace it. Had to send it in for repair 7 months in because the auto winder screw backed out and started making rattling noise. I seen the loose screw inside the clear backing inside the watch. Then I had to jump through hoops to get it repaired. They wanted to charge me almost 150$ in repairs for a watch I paid 90$ for that was under warranty. Poor customer service. Finally after a year and two months the watch keeps stopping. It’s cheaper to buy a new watch then get the battery replaced so I’m looking at this watch now. Hope this helped. Good luck. 👍

Not sure if you bought it yet, but the clock assume every month is 31 days. So you have to manually change it. I do NOT own this watch yet, but i'm thinking of getting it.

how water can it handle?

If the case was made in stainless steel and had 100M of water resistance, I would buy one in an instant!!

How old is the watch now? And is it still working?

The size of the wrist of the person matters, and 38mm works for many. Its a timex, with consistent quality and good price point.

I prefer the Timex expedition compass watch. The band is the only issue.

Yes. I've had them in various forms for 25 years. No leaks. Ever. I swim, kayak, sweat, etc. No problems. Get the ones with the metal case, not the resin case ones. The two of those I've had were not nearly as good as the Scout series.

I only know of issues with the Indiglo light. Setting the date is purely mechanical, via the stem. Look up changing the battery to see the insides Plastic movements make sense in and ELECTRONIC watch. Nothing to short out on... Real World Stuff!

Will this look good on a nato strap ? Perhaps....

How do you use the indiglo?

+555 Gear thanks for clearing that up. In general, are automatic movements quieter than mechanical? I'm going to be upgrading my everyday watch in a month for my birthday. I normally like to leave it on for everything including shower and sleeping. I'm looking at some of the seiko's you have reviewed as well as possibly a Hamilton. Any recommendations on a quiet field watch that won't drive my wife and I crazy with its loud ticking if I sleep with it on? Love your channel.

Mechanical movements are a lot quieter, but so are most quality quartz movements. Seiko quartz movements are a lot quieter for example. Both Seiko and Hamilton make quality field watches at affordable prices. Looking to spend a bit more? Look into Weiss Watches, an interesting new brand. Above that, there is the lovely Tudor Ranger.

Bought this watch and the crown popped off after just six months of light use. The second hand is also very out of line with the markers. It's a cheap watch.

Nope. The backing popped off mine when it fell about 4 feet on to tile.

Does the indiglo function stay on or do you have to hold down the button? If it does stay on, for how many seconds. Thank you :)

It's only small on the wrist if you want to wear a tank on your wrist.

How much quiter Is the chrono

For me it's always funny when Americans call 24 hour time, a military time. 24-hour time is standard time in all European countries (mayby except UK) and for us callin it military time is pretty strange. It's also more practical than 12-hour time.
