I’ve really fallen down the watch video rabbit hole the past couple years and I have to say this may be my favorite one yet. Love the philosophical angle and you do an excellent job of explaining the love for the SKX. I got to the SKX party late, picking up one in early 2021 after being drawn to it. It has become my daily wearer for a few reasons, one being I want to see it change over time. It’s the only watch in my collection that I want to see change over time.

Best interpretation of a watch EVER. A perfect example of how some time-pieces are more that the sum of their parts.
I love the way the watch looks with faded colours and scratches - a true beater watch

I really love when dive watches are scratched up, wabi
Love this video. As someone who has appreciated wabi sabi as an aesthetic philosophy long before taking interest in watches, you helped me understand what made me get the SKX. Unfortunately, all to often when products are sold to men, words like "timeless" are thrown around, which is bs as nothing lasts nor remains fashionable forever. But I always look for things that are not only durable but wear in rather than wear out.
I am deeply impressed with your videos and I have been enjoying my time spent watching them. So far this was my favorite and was taken aback by the wabi-sabi comparison and how material objects accumulate more value the longer we care for them. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for taking the time. I really enjoyed making this video, it is one of my favorites. Cheers, Andrew
I've had my SKX for about 2 years now and gets regular rotation onto my wrist. It is a Malaysian built watch and have zero quality or timing issues with it. I think last time I timed it, it came within +/- 5 seconds a day, give or take.
Absolutely one of the very best watch videos on the internet. Thank you!
Wow, so cool the wear and aging of your watch... and it's been three years since you made this video too! You've inspired me to look into purchasing one of these watches myself... it would be nice to have a "beater" tool watch... one that maybe one day will have the same character of your skx.

After all these years this remains to me your best video ever because of your philosophical look at the condition of this watch. Every time I buy a new Seiko diver I come back to watch it again my most recent purchase being a Seiko marinemaster 300 M

This is one of the most thoughtful watch reviews that I have seen on KZread. Not only do you go over the specs of the watch and everything you would need to know as a consumer, but you also delve into what makes tool watches so beautiful. This video is why people get into watches and other EDC items. It's about seeing a mass produced object go from one in a million to one of a kind. Very good review!

Very insightful review, great work here!
Its legend, crown position, workhorse, dive watch and no watch gets better patina than the Seiko older dive watches such as 6309, 7548 quartz etc....I have worn alot of Subs and deep sea but never do I keep Seiko divers out of rotation, in fact, just purchased the 7548 1978 quartz and its mint......love Seiko Skx, love Tuna, seiko 6105 but really think the 6309 maybe the finest Dive watch i have ever worn......you just put it on and forget about until you have to do a date change. Anyway, thanks for the informative review!!!
I just love how used and worn it looks!

Excellent review of a great watch. I bought one about 6 months ago and still enjoy it. Just wish it was a little bit larger and sit a little bit lower on the wrist but perhaps that's what gives it character. Looking at similar models in a Seiko 5 as I like the design of diver's watches. Functional, simple and affordable.

OK, after watching this video a few times, I decided to get one. I've always loved this look. From Steve McQueen to Magnum PI, this is a classic, manly look, that has aged very well. I was looking for the Rolex version of this when I stumbled upon this video and this watch. This morning I was sitting with an elderly customer in my office and I noticed he was wearing a pepsi SKX on rubber straps. I couldn’t help but compliment him on his choice of timepiece and he replied that he has owned it for twenty years and it’s the best watch he’s ever had. I’ve seen a lot of great reviews of the SKX, including yours, but to meet a 70+ year old man who has been wearing and enjoying the SKX for twenty years when he could afford to be buying the likes of Omega and Rolex...well that’s a stunning endorsement.
Because it's tough as nails, looks better each day you wear it, never have to take it off, and isn't a stupid quartz. Plus, dive watches are simply the best!
Nicely done

Hello 555 Gear, I'm fairly interested in the SKX model and I'm relatively new to mechanical watches, but I wanted to know how reliable is the 7s26 movement? Also how often did you get your watch serviced during your time of ownership? On top of that excellent video! Cheers mate.

The crystal seems to be very smooth while the outer ring (bezel) is pretty damaged. Do you think that's because of the hardlex material. Or is this a new crystal? Btw how old is this watch? On your vid the print on the dial looks yellow instead of orange.
The yellow lettering on the dial is really interesting. Was it like that originally or has the original red lettering faded to that yellow color?
How do i get a lighter vintage type look bezel for the Pepsi...can you turn a new one into a old one

+555 Gear Firstly, thank you for such a refreshingly different angle in looking at an older watch design which has grown on me over the years. A SKX-007 used to be in my collection until about 5 months ago. It departed suddenly in a manner that I do not wish to discuss! I have had missed it a lot and also had considered replacing it with a Mako USA as my weekend beater. After much internal debate and turmoil, I almost pull the trigger on the Mako USA, but had changed my mind and ordered a SKX-009 this afternoon. Your beautifully done video has reinforced my decision that pulling the trigger for the SKX-009 was indeed the right move. I am sure my SKX-009 which I am yet to receive will stand the test of time in the ocean of horology........

Is there a story behind the "Pepsi" dial, as I understand it's called? I noticed the Rolex GMT II has one, too.
@TASCOM44
8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Richmond Rolex used it for distinguishing the 12 hour day/night cycle on the original GMT master. I think now it's just an appealing color combo, and the first 20 minutes in red is more for a diving visual

A good example of a real cushion case is the one on the Vostok Amphibia 710 ministry case.
I have an older Seiko 5 with the 6309 movement. In my opinion, better than the 7s26. Crown at 3. Keeps good time. Looks amazing.

Do you think a new 2016 skx will become creamy in 20 years?
@cmdrflint9115
6 жыл бұрын
Dave Os I have a slight suspicion the skx in the vid has been artificially aged (baked dial/hands). I could be wrong, but as far as I know the lumibrite like shouldn't degrade/yellow over time. You usually only see yellowing like that on older tritium painted lume. Heck, I've got a 1984 Seiko 6309-7049 with an original tritium lumed dial that isn't as yellowed as the one in the vid! The beautifully faded bezel on the other hand is certainly achievable on the newer SKXs, I've seen ones that have heavilly faded after just a couple of years in the sun. I hope I'm wrong about the lume, as I own an skx009 and would love it to eventually develop a nice creamy patina... Time will tell :)

5 years later its still bright white 😂
The SXK watches are not "cushion cased". Seiko's 6309-7040 and the earlier 6105-8110 divers of the early 1970s through early 80s are examples of a cushion case design. The move to a slimmed-down case began with the 6309-7290 and the 7002 series that followed, a style retained in the current SKX007/009.

How come none of these youtubers have a J version. The polishing is much better and you get the 21 jewels label with the made in japan. It’s worth it, I know I would get it except my wrist is small so I can only get the skx013 which only has the K version

It is the last character which determines if it is made in Malaysia or Japan, so a SKX007K (Malaysia) SKX007J (Japan)

Why are you talking so quietly
I hate the deep dish indexed chapter ring. Ruins the whole watch. It would look much better with a slim stainless steel chapter ring.

You've got good videos but you need to speak up
Forget Wabi Sabi, talk louder!
I still dont understand what is special about this watch. It is not radio controlled. Maybe it is quality. But my old Casio has until now, lasted for 10 years. And this Seiko watch cost the double of a Casio. And the design of this watch. This watch look like any other watch. All the words about the design in this video is just like talk. Just talk. Nothing but talk.

What is the important thing about a watch? Its gotta show the time accurately. Get a radio controlled watch. Is the future. And forget this one. Its old and out of date.

There are three types of people that wear watches in 2016, people that use them as jewelry, people that buy them for the status connected to a certain brand, and the enthusiast.
