Kerry, This is AWESOME my friend! I literally purchased a "HANTEK 2D15" this Thursday, that is scheduled to be delivered Monday the 16th. I truly remembered thinking, "I wish Kerry Wong would do a video on these models, so I would have better insight from a man I trust." Then, to my UTTER amazement, I get a notification this morning that you have just uploaded such a video! LOL!!! Many thanks Kerry! Your knowledge and opinion is one I do TRULY trust. @@KerryWongBlog This is my first DSO, replacing my old 20MHz Agilent. I'm quite pleased with it. I've seen some people say its voltage accuracy at low voltages isn't very good, but I find if I adjust the V/div to fit the signal into the screen, it works fine, and I had to do that with the analog scope anyway.

I just bought it as well thanks to Kerry, but as well 2D15. We have here 20MHz Hantek 2 channel, and handheld FNRSI as well with 1 channel. This one looks promising to what we need. We run electronics repair shop and I plan to build some power supplies with inverters on top of that. So, if will work fine, I'll buy a probe of up to 1kV for it.

Thank you for the very nice detailed video. It will be appreciated if you can help me to choose Hantek DSO2D10 oscilloscope or the OWON HDS2102S. Thank You
Thanks for the test and teardwon. I've been using a relatively modern $399 Digilent (owned by National Instruments) AD2 USB scope/AWG/PS/DIO gizmo (no screen; UI is a PC you supply) for a few weeks for low level, low frequency, measurements. IIRC it uses a 15-bit ADC, which is very useful for my measurements of low-level (10-20 mV analog) signals from transducers. One of the limitations of the AD2 is it's limited 16K buffer (max) per scope channel. This new low-profit-margin Hantek interests me for my present measurements due to its much larger buffer size. i note that other EE blogs mentions that QFP chip with scrubbed off numbers is a TI ADC08D500 or ADC08D502 and Ti's block diagrams show an 8-bit ADC.
@vkristof1
2 жыл бұрын
Looking closer at Kerry's photos of the scrubbed off chip number QFP mounted on the PCBA, it turns out that the part is a 128 lead QFP mounted on 144 pad footprint. The ADC08D500 and ADC080D502 only come in 128 QFP packages, but the 144 pad footprint IMPLIES that Hantek MIGHT use a different part in other scope flavors.
Great review. Thank you for doing. I will be purchasing for my first Oscilloscope. It seems like the most bang for the buck.

Well, given the bandwidth test you performed. It seems the "2D15" (150Mhz) I purchased would possibly handle at least 200Mhz+ and still be VERY useful. That would be AWESOME!! Also, I liked how much more in depth you went with the included software and Arb generator functions. I had been wondering about saving Arb files to the USB thumb drive for later and you confirmed it. SWEET! :-D

I'd assume that the main difference between 2D15 and 2D10 would be in the front end section. It's possible that there are some "tweaks" in the circuitry to improve the bandwidth in the 150MHz version.

Everyone is an expert ;-) ...... MY contribution is that at 19:45 you could/should have used the "zoom window" function by depressing the Horizontal time base knob and then you could have seen a NICE - SECONDARY window showing the original waveform and also the expanded - zoomed portion of the signal. I know you can't remember to cover everything, but, it may be advantageous to hit the Horiz knob and have both displayed.... Just a friendly FYI ;-) Thanks for all your work, (fun), in presenting good stuff to know about scopes....

These small scopes are good opportunity for battery power - plenty of room in case, low power likely.
I find in this osciloscope the need to make a calibration when there is subtle ambient temperature variations. Before this calibration channel 1&2 offsets are visible in the 2mV/DIV.

God[Bible] Bless??? What
To be brutally honest I am thankful these reviews exist, and those on Amazon, and I've decided against it. I've read too many problems and shortcomings with these units. Probably a good idea if it was properly debugged, stable, had an accompanying manual in local language, XY view would be reliable, would pick up less noise. For about 150 EUR more one can buy a proper basic scope like the Siglent SDS1202X which has a vastly superior architecture and build quality (especially inside) and I couldn't justify to spend on this unit and be my one and ONLY oscilloscope, knowing that even if it wouldn't freeze, I wouldn't incur a dozen times per day into the beetles... I still would not trust it completely and still had to double check each time, fearful of the outcome and probably sometimes run into hard to read results because of it.
@flisboac
Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the SDS1202X is very, very, very far from that price, anywhere.
How would you compare this to the Rigol DSO1102z-e ? I’ve got both of them on my shortlist for a new scope and I’m looking for opinions before I decide. Thanks!
Since you have this Hantek for a while now, how is it doing? any freezing or overheating or Lock-up? how is the accuracy? thanks
Kerry. If you use an arbitrary function from the usb stick I think its possible to save it to the internal storage of the oscilloscope with the save/recall feature. havent tried it yet but I will eventually. I personally bought the DSP2D15 after researching and watching your video and Im incredibly happy with the scope. I put some custom heatsinks on the chips to keep them cool. The ambient temperature voltage fluctuations are now between 3.2mV and 6.4mV usually at 4.8mV. The coolest feat I have achieved so far with this scope was that at 20mV resolution I managed to measure the sine wave of the wall (50hz) with a peak to peak voltage of 140mV. That without connecting the probe to anything, just having it plugged into the oscilloscope. The closer you move the probe to a powercable the higher the amplitude of the frequency becomes. Its not noise its an actual sine wave. So for 216 EUR this scope beat my expectations by far and I can only recommend it to everyone starting out.

When you tested the X-Y mode, you seemed to be connected to one signal output from the FNIRSI UTG962E and one to the FSK/CNT/Sync.
I don't know why there is no mention of an output tone from the Signal Generator.... I know that the generator outputs a sine-wave because I can see it on the scale... but is there also a signal tone for a radio speaker that you can physically hear from a speaker ? I'm trying to do a shortwave radio alignment and I need to physically hear the 455Khz audio signal tone from the generator.

Hello. I'm new to this field, so maybe a silly question. But. This device could be used to measure FM deviation on CB radio 4w output according to the example - Thanks to Bessel Curves and doing a bit of maths we know that if we feed in a 1kHz tone, at 2.5kHz deviation it'll null the carrier. So analyse the signal with around 10kHz width so you can see all the peaks, feed a 1kHz tone into the mic at normal speaking levels and as you get towards 2.5kHz deviation you'll see the centre carrier peak will turn into a trough. When its at its lowest you're at 2.5kHz deviation.
@KerryWongBlog

It does not have a special function to read out the FM deviation if that was what you were looking for.

Thanks for you video review. It is like buying a car that offers you 3 wheels and the forth one is just the spare one from the boot - in that case I say thanks but no thanks. A second probe should be included and not have to spend money on. You will not get exactly the same as the one supplied. And yes I am ware that probes are on the cheaper side of things.
You do not mention maximun amplitude for the wave generator, do you have that info?
I'm pretty sure you could get a better XY display. Settings can be tricky compared to more intuitive analog scopes. Perhaps sampling rate is not high enough? Clipping?? Etc. I once wrote a whole article about getting an analog clock face display looking good on a digital scope...
@KerryWongBlog
2 жыл бұрын
Typically the sampling rate improves when you decrease the memory depth, but on this scope it did not seem to make much of a difference unfortunately. The display I showed was the best I could get after adjusting everything I had thought about.... If anyone manages to get significantly better results I'd be interested to know!
Continuation: I've opened the scope ,power supply is radiating only 5 cm in back. But display is radiating in front to 1-2 meters. I can hear on FM wave between stations the increasing noise when scope is powered. So no fast cure for this issue because is for no use to shield the power supply.

After reading some of the reviews and teardowns, I think this non-populated ethernet port was an Ethernet place keeper for possible upgrade for competitive. It's missing the transformers for Ethernet and the RJ45 footprint seems too short for a Magjack type connector so that basically rules out Ethernet. Considering the SMD IC footprint next to it which looks suspiciously similar to a MAX232 it is most likely just a serial port using the 8P8C/RJ45 connector. Why they have an RJ45 footprint with LEDs I don't know...

So, I wonder, does the 150mhz scope have an even higher bandwidth, or are they really the same scope sold at two different price points. Or perhaps there are quality control issues where some scopes have worse bandwidth than others, so they bin then.

Only above 2 meters in front the radiation is down. Did someone else experienced the same? Compared with a Tektronix digital and also with a very old analog oscilloscope: this is far away. I did not imagine it can radiates like this. Could be power supply that needs a shield? It seems on the right front side it radiates also till 2 meters. I wonder what you will end up with. I decided to go for 2D10 (albeit supposedly you can go for 2C10 and upgrade it via software to 2D15, if they kept all the components in) to have as many functions as possible in one device for various hobby projects (mostly digital) and some educational activities with kids (hence the AWG). My main concern is that I might simply not identify a significant issue caused by a bug in the scope, when it occurs :-). On the other hand, the device has been on the market for some time now, Hantek seems to progress in fixing various bugs (hopefuly hardware as well). It would be good to see a review of up-to-date version, to understand how stable and mature it is now. As for my personal experience: I got mine a week ago, I've been playing with it a lot for the last few days. I managed to freeze it once while doing a lot of parameter changes (that might not be making much sense though ;-)). I don't see most of the issues I read about. The one odd thing I experience is that the USB connection is not stable via my USB 3.0 mediaport (it's just an extension, not a hub) when connected to USB 2.0 port in my PC. When I connect it directly to the PC USB 2.0 port, it works fine.

@@neo256mb I agree with you.... and we've seen both of them torn down. You buy a lot of solidity with the Siglent. I am not saying it is the perfect scope or it's just better or anything. In fact it seems just good enough to me, but at least since it has sold 10 times over it has also been properly user debugged and you can find solution for almost everything. And has a more substantial hardware quality.
First of all, thank you for making such a great and well informed video. I have learned alot from your video. - I read somewhere that the probes that come with these cheap units are junk. Have you tried to use "good" probes with them and if so, does it help to get more accurate results? - Can you suggest or link to better probes we should get when we purchase any of these units? Maybe something that is budget friendly for us hobbyists, but still give better performance then the ones you get with the scope? Same question for both 100Mhz and 150Mhz probes. - is there a accuracy difference between the Hantek 100Mhz and 150Mhz versions? If the cost was the same, would the 150Mhz version be the better choice to get? - Do you see an easy way to install a 12v dc computer fan in there for cooling? Other reviews mention that this unit locks up due to heat and there is a russian video where the guy installed two pretty beefy heatsinks on both FPGA chips which supposedly solved this problem. Maybe running a 12v fan at 8v would be enough just to get some air moving in there to prevent overheating? Thoughts? - As I don't have a scope of my own and really am only a hobbyist at best, is this scope good enough to start with or should I save up for a better scope? I don't like to waste money buying the same tool over again, however I'd rather buy a scope that will last me several years until I know more about them and have a better understanding on what other higher end features I might need/want. Thanks again and much love from Canada !!

-The supplied probes are rather generic. But for general purpose measuring within the 100MHz, results won't be affected much (unless you are trying to measure rise time in the ns range) - I did some analysis on a few probes years ago (www.kerrywong.com/2015/07/11/oscilloscope-probes-rise-time-testing/) you can take a look. Good probes are quite expensive and for this oscilloscope you have other limitations other than the probes. -I don't have access to the 150MHz version, but the circuitry would likely be very similar if not identical and there are some minor firmware/hardware tweaks for the 150MHz version. If the prices are similar I'd go for the 150MHz version. But as you saw in my review, the 100 MHz version is fully capable of measuring signals well above 150MHz. -I really don't think after market fan is necessary. If you do need one, you can tap off the 5V rail and install a fan, but even after prolonged use the scope did not get hot. -I would say this scope should be good enough for a lot of for a lot of hobbyist work. It's a very competitive market and there are a lot of similarly priced scopes out there and all with their pros and cons. It really comes down to what you plan to do with it.

Although Hantek made efforts to release firmware and software updates for the DSO 2000 series oscilloscopes, they should provide also the software tools needed to perform backup and restore operations. Furthermore, I wonder how can a company that manufactures oscilloscopes can release a product on the market without heatsinks installed on the processors and without a good silent fan to aid the cooling process of the device wile running? Although Hantek 2000 series advertise some cool features, actually, they are not performing great in reality and there's no point in choosing any model from the Hantek 2000 series over a Hantek DSO4102C or DSO5102P, which offers similar performance but with added stability and reliability offered by the heath management control (heatsinks and fan).

$500-600 if you can find one. There very much is a point.
how to test components using x-y mode
Thanks for your video. I have the same model for only 8 months and developed issue with Channel # 2 reading lower than Ch#1 by about 46% when I connect the same probe to the square wave test output post of the scope. I used the calibration function(found in Utility bottom) and it came back with error code : 511d6. I also downloaded the latest firmware from Hantek. It did not improve and same error code. Tried email to Hantek service and no responses. Do you have any suggestions what to do? From your post of the input board it appears to have a trim pot. Is this for the input scaling?

Obviously, at least to me is there was a component value that shifted in the circuit. I have not seen this very often but I have seen it happen. It could be something as simple as a resistor or could be something else. Joao Carvalho mentions issues with ambient temp causing calibration errors and since diodes are sensitive to temp changes this may be a place to look, also something as simple as a solder joint could be the cause. These kinds of problems are never very easy to track down unless you have a lot of experience with a particular device and a detailed schematic is almost always necessary, with very detailed specifications as to what should be happening at all points through the circuits. Things that work are very hard to fix. Things that don't work are easier. Sometimes.
Greetings 🙏 Please recommend which is better for a beginner. Hantek DSO2D15 or Fnirsi 1014D.

I will be getting a Fnirsi 1014D soon. Please watch out for that video (will be towards the end of January)!
How can I save a capter to USB with a pre selected incremental name? This toy store image file with random number and date filename is always December 1979 :/
Hello, what is the difference between the model you shows and the DSO5102 ? thanks

You can compare the specs for more details, but DSO5102 is a much older model and has very limited memory depth.

@@KerryWongBlog Thanks !
Should this accurately measure dc voltage? 13.8 reads 14.1 on ch2 and 14.0 on ch1 a 1.44v aa battery reads 1.6v on mine

could be something to do with the probes.

@@sivoltage no. Just cheap. You have to dial in a very specific range to get anything resembling accurate frequency reading. It was made to give a ball park reading. It's a entry level scope that does alot for the money you can't expect it to do everything like a high end tektronix
Are the measurements accurate? 1 reviewer said it is not.
is this scope support LabVIEW program?
Does it suck (test) & blow (sig-gen) at the same time ?
Brother Please Review Hantek 6022BE....
