This is in the mail. VERY excited for this. I have many different other "leader" games, but they all involve flight.

I have Thunderbolt/Apache Leader, that uses terrain tiles, and I ignore the placement restrictions. That DOES increase replayability.

Hornet Leader 1:06:45 DVG is contemporary (1980s to present) F-18 Hornets and other US Navy fast jets (DVG has reprinted and expanded the the old GMT version). I think the WW2 in the Pacific game is Corsair Leader.

Great review and explanation of key issues. A question though. Who determines how many battles you should have per week? Is it stated somewhere in the rules?

Nice run through of the game. Looks interesting and you highlighted some areas of concern, ie the lack of tiles. I am looking at either a lock n load or this game, it has to be solitaire based as none around to play against so what would the players aid recommend, I know lock n load has a solo extension. Your thoughts on this would be greatly received.

Agreed with everything you said about a great Solo game. No constant rule lookups and a smart AI (because playing a 2 player game is more fun against someone) The campaign part seems interesting, but that AI and combat mechanics seems as basic as can be. Do you ever find yourself making tough decisions in combat?

You main decisions in combat become about what target do you choose and how aggressive you are with movement of your troops. One of the tougher choices each scenario is how to use your infantry as they simply don't have good range and have to be adjacent to targets to fire basically. I like the struggle there as I have to choose my routes to get to the targets while trying to stay in some form of cover. In the end, you sometimes have to simply throw caution to the win and run out into the open to get in position. Hope that helped. Thanks for watching and for your comment.

Really good overview video. This game is one of my favorite games because of the points you touched upon. So far I've been ok with the AI movement. One thing I do differently is to randomize who the Germans fire at. It also makes combat more unpredictable. Shooting at the "easiest" target makes it too easy to game the system. As for the Germans bunching up, I see that as an abstraction, the hex with multiple counters is a much larger area than what we see visually. I solved the problem of the warped board by separating the board in half and counter bending the areas warped. The board has remained flat. The additional terrain tiles are a must have. There are additional hexes that affect tactics like, minefields, rivers, roads, outposts, barbed wire, and bogging. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

I need to definitely look at the extra tiles. Those sound amazing and I am sad that I didn't get them. Thanks for watching.

8 tiles, choosing 6, where ordering does matter (permutations), does give a large number of potential layouts (over 20,160). Maybe it's because the tiles feel similar there is the feeling of sameness rather than being due to the actual number of potential layouts. Or maybe because you are seeing the same tiles all the time despite the likelihood of the layout being the same being small.

I think you are right but they really "feel" the same. The key is that there is a white arrow in the upper right corner of each tile that forces you to put them in that position as you mention. It might feel different is this wasn't the case but I don't know. It also would most likely lead to some really broken terrain setups that would favor once side over the other. All done I am sure in the name of balance. I have played three times and am in no way done with the game so I am sure that my opinion will change with more plays. Just my initial feeling after a few plays. Great game! Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing Grant. The KS version came with a bag of 32 extra tiles. Did you receive these? The bag is almost as large as the core box.

Didn't get that add on. Wish I had. That was my only concern with the system really. I like variety and the 8 tiles available just doesn't seem enough.

The 32 extra terrain tiles were a KS stretch goal along with 5 metal tanks and another DVG title. If you backed the KS and did not receive the tiles, I would contact DVG. If you have a retail copy, you can order the extra tiles at an OLGS.

That’s it now, mate. The solo/solitaire seed has been sewn and will just keep growing...then you’ll look at your collection and realise your hooked...😜 (you’re right a game needs a really solid, intelligent AI)

Following up on this... I wanted to find something similar to The Hunters U-boat solitaire game but with tanks. Would you recommend Patton's Best? Or any other that allows the player to command a unit and its crew, rather than a squad. Thanks!

With Patton's best you command a tank. The downside is the game is from the early '80s.

Have you read ‘Tank!’ By Ken Tout? It follows a British Sherman tank troop (including Firefly) soon after D-Day...true story, great read! This game would capture that experience, I feel. www.amazon.com/Tank-Ken-Tout/dp/0709055838

This is a fun game but there is no decent AI at all. ONE single die decides the AI strategy for a complete turn. By far the best solo AI bot is found in Conflict of Heroes Awakening the Bear, East Front solo expansion. It succeeds because of the immediate interaction step by step - hex move/shot - between player and AI bot so the AI can’t make huge errors. With each move the CoH bot evaluates the board, the player units and its own units with each new AI card drawn. The BEST solo designer is John Butterfield with Ambush, RAF, the DDay series, CoH solo expansion, Enemy Action Ardeness , Voyage of Pandora etc ... Again Sherman Leader is a FUN Campaign driven game but it actually has a terrible AI tactical bot driven on the roll of ONE 10 sided die.
