Hey Preston, just wanted to let you know I took your videos advice, got extremely lucky, and found a pair of Allen edmond nomads in my size at the local goodwill for $16. I gave them a bit of a rejuvenation, and for the first time in my life had random people saying "nice shoes" while we pass each other in the halls.

I'm really curious who makes these shoes for Yeossal because I'm a fan of Oct Tenth by Sons of Henrey who I know are made out of Shanghai. The models and lasts they offer seem to be very similar. The Oct Tenth by Sons of Henry shoes are made by Xibao Shoemaker and I wonder if they also make Yeossal's. I haven't actually owned shoes from Yeossal so have no first hand experience to say for certain. In any case, great review and very happy to see you're enjoying your new pairs!

A few things to point out: 1. Hand-welted only means the welt is handstitched to the insole of the shoe, it doesn't necessarily mean that the outsole is handstitched to the welt. 2. Yeossal is a Singaporean brand, but their shoes were made by Oct 10th shoemaker(or Xi'bao/TGC shoemaker) in Shanghai China, I have personally visited their factory. They combine hand-skills and refined machine technologies and they are one of the best factory-made shoe factories I have ever visited (even compared with a lot of factories I have visited in Northampton). 3. One impressive thing is that they altered the welt indent width to exactly match the welt stitch density, so the machine-stitched welt looks denser but much cleaner than even a lot of "hand-stitched" brands, which is very impressive (as shown in the videos also).

  • @TheElegantOxford

Been a fan for a while now and learned a lot from your videos. Even went on to dye, patina and shine about 10-12 pairs of shoes both for myself and friends. But something is bothering my sartorial eye. Someone with so many elegant and fine shoes should not be wearing a rubber strap on their watch! Perhaps it is your work watch and you wear a nicer dressier one on other more dressed up occasions? If not, let me know, i will make you one in leather and send it. Even though leather on a diver is not that dressy, but beats that rubber every day of the week.

A little too voluptuous for me, thanks. Moving on, would you consider a challenge? I propose you locate a pair of used & abused shoes and test out several kinds of saddle soap (remember our recent difference of opinion about saddle soap?) for their restorative properties. You could put a wide stripe of painter's tape down the middle of the shoes to preserve their original condition, then go to town on them with a regular saddle soap, a high-end one, one containing lanolin, and another glycerinized, videoing the entire process. Then add the best one to your merch catalogue!

Hello Preston, I recently ordered a pair of these on their MTO section, and I have a question concerning the bottom lace. I noticed that on Yeossal's website, the photos of "The Duke" show some with wider laces at he bottom, and some , like your pair, with narrower or symmetrical lace spacing from bottom to top. Can you shed some light on this? Could it be that the wide lacing was transitioned over to the symmetrical lacing at some point? What should I expect on my MTO pair? I know this is a pretty small detail difference, but I actually prefer the look of the symmetrical lace spacing as on your pair!

Hey Frank. My Duke was built on the YC3 last and others are built on completely different lasts, which might affect certain aspects of the shoe’s design. If you got yours on the YC3 last, it will look identical

Lovely looking shoe. A little more clarity on what is meant by the shoe maker's 'assistance' with the video would be welcome. Is this a paid for review, or were you given the shoes for free?

Not agree with initial comment that only England and Spain offers top of the line crafted shoes, what about Italy? Italy has well known bespoke houses and high quality semi bespoke and MTO shoes fully handmade and hand lasted.

I don’t agree with the comment either. Which is why I mentioned it and spent the whole video arguing why many countries around the world offer amazing shoes aside from England and Spain. Italy is one of them as well
