What is Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro?
I guess you could say the name explains it all; is a hard wired security camera that also comes with a dual LED floodlight for adding light to your situation.
Unlike some other camera options, this device has no battery, and it takes its power entirely from your home’s AC wiring.
If you don’t have existing wiring, you can’t use this device and instead you should shop for one of those Ring battery powered options.
If you are intimidated by fooling with your home’s wiring, you don't need to be. Ring makes installing this device as simple as could be. In short, cut the power to the light at the breaker, remove your old light, and then connect the wires; black to black, white to white and then attach the ground. If you have any concerns, or aren’t sure, consult a professional electrician. But I had the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired installed in about 10 minutes.
I will also note Ring includes all the tools you need, and even make it easy to hold the heavy light in place above your head, adding a small hook and strap that lets you keep the light in place while you connect the wires. So smart! Plus the included screw driver also doubles as a wrench for the screw caps that hold the light on. Double brilliant!
After it’s installed, you’ll connect it to your home’s Wi-Fi and finish set up in the Ring app. Worth noting, you do need Wi-Fi to reach wherever you’re installing this camera.
If you’re not sure, take your phone out to the spot you want to install it and make sure your Wi-Fi is still getting to the phone. You can also add a Ring Chime or extender to boost the signal if you need that.
You do really want to also enable one of Ring’s cloud recording plans… without that -and they cost about $3-10/month depending on your needs, you’ll only get snippets of video. I have the full plan enabled and I’m glad I do.
What can Ring Floodlight Cam Wired do?
This device has two key components; it will light up the area when motion is detected, and using the built in camera it will record what’s going on. Most of the settings are customizable (we’ll get to that shortly).
Ring’s dual LED floodlights are bright at about 2000 lumens, and you can adjust and aim each one separately, so it will throw light where you want it. You can also dim the overall power of the light, so you don’t blind your neighbours.
The lights will come on automatically if triggered by motion, or you can turn them on yourself inside the Ring app.
VO camera and video recording feed
The Ring camera is a 1080p HD colour video camera with Night Vision and you can aim the camera where you want it to see, then lock into place for secure visibility over your space.
One of the great features about this camera is that you can adjust where it will detect motion. You can create quite wide areas or narrow it up. I installed my Floodlight Cam Wired in the alley behind out garage, and I didn’t want every single car to trip it, so I shortened up the motion distance so I only get notified if someone approaches the garage door.
You can also increase or decrease the overall sensitivity too.
I found the motion settings worked quite well and I was really only getting alerts when a person came to close; usually just the neighbor, or my husband taking out the garbage, but I was happy with the amount of alerts I was getting and their validity.
Naturally with a camera as part of the package, you’ll get recordings of what’s going on and you can pop in to take a live view any time. As with all Ring security cameras and Doorbells, there’s two-way talk so you can interact with whoever you see, and there’s also a 105dB Siren in case you need to get aggressive.
With Ring’s Connected Devices feature in the Ring app you can also set up other cameras to record when the floodlight device is triggered, or other lights to turn on too-great for potentially scaring off an intruder.
Overall, this Floodlight Cam Wired is really great. It's super versatile, it is a powerful lighting solution for dark areas, and it has the power of a built-in camera that will record what unfolds in front of it so you have video evidence in case it's ever needed.
If I did want to nitpick one suggestion, it would probably be great if this device had a battery back up, so you could guarantee lights and recordings even during a power outage.
The Ring app is super easy to navigate and control all your home security devices. In short, if you are looking for a hardwired solution that you don't need to worry about changing the batteries for, light, security, and peace of mind, I think you will love this device.
Ring Floodlight Cam Wired sells for about $249USD.

I'm in my 70's, and I have never done computers well. I still haven't figured out my smart phone. But I took a chance on the Ring doorbell because of your videos. I even coupled an Alexa 5 to it. I LOVE THEM! It was so easy to install, and even the app download, (my first app download ever), was simple for me to do. Thanks so much for helping me move into the 21st century, and increase my security at the same time. Now, Alexa, show me the front door. AMAZING! Thank you.

WOW! That’s an awesome device Erin. Like you said, it should have included back up battery in case power failure. Cheers! 👍🏻

Nice review... In the app on your phone, should the light toggle stay on for light motion detection? Or is the toggle only to manually turn on the light when you want the light on to see what's happening in the dark?
Thanks for the review .... Though I personally decided to save the some $70 and get the less expensive "Floodlight Cam Plus" instead. Which is working fine covering my backyard.
Thanks as always, from the UK

Is it brighter than the previous model?
Great review. Have you looked at the IFTTT interoperability? I can have the sensors on the floodlight or my doorbell trigger an action. This adds extra power to an already feature rich device.

I have two lights in my backyard on the patio. If I replace one of them with this will that be an issue?
Great review - Thanks

Thanks for watching!
I’ve had this light for almost a week. I’ve had one issue and I’m not sure what it is. On two separate occasions I’ve had the lights at night keep getting triggered to come on. I’m not getting recordings or notifications that motion was sensed, the lights just keep getting triggered for some reason. I’ve tried lowering the sensitivity, shortening the range of the light sensors, shortening the motion range. I’m not sure what it could be.
Your battery backup suggestion is a good idea but even though that may provide you some light during a power outage I don't think it would help with the video recording unless you also had a power back up to your modem and router

How have you liked it? I am buying one for relatives but worried cause some say it doesn't last long or it gets flooded with water or it's not bright enough
I know it is hard wired, but how does this unit do in the winter in below zero Fahrenheit? Thank you to anyone that can answer or point me in the right direction. :)
Thanks for that objective review. My garage has 2 porch lights- one on the left and another on the right. If I install one on the left, will the right light one turn on too with the Ring Floodlight? If not, how should it be wired?
@ErinLawrenceTV

It’s possible to link these devices together inside the ring app. That way you can set it so that if one detects motion or turns on the other one can do the same… Or not.

@@ErinLawrenceTV Thanks, Erin for your swift reply. But I should have clarified that the other porch light that I would like to connect is not a Ring device but a regular porch lamp.
Thanks for the video on the Ring Security Floodlight Cam Wired Pro with Stick Up Cam Battery (3rd gen). Hoping you could answer a question on this. I am looking to install this at a vacation home using Wi-Fi router/hotspot for LAN. My concern is what do I need to be able to access video feeds from Installed ring device when at my permanent home over 3 hours away? Thanks in advance for your help and ideas.

Can the floodlights be set to come on automatically and stay on all night and turn off in the morning?
Well done video, Thank you. We have a coyote problem in our area and I want the coyotes to be filmed when they come into the yard. I have concerns that since they are not people they may not get caught on the video. I want the video filming anything that comes into / through the yard at night - I will be able to set it to do that correct? Catching the coyote traffic on our street is one of the main reasons I am looking at getting the pro-floodlight, or do you think there is a better choice to consider? Thank you, Brian

Rings app is pretty smart… And their technology is improving to the point where they are more often able to differentiate between people and other things. I can’t remember if they have animal detection specifically, but my ring cameras do get triggered sometimes by my dogs
@BEKenna
2 жыл бұрын
@@ErinLawrenceTV Thank you. I checked, with Ring, it will not detect things such as dogs, coyotes, etc if you use the "Human" detection.
I've seen too many videos where this new "Pro" model isn't worth upgrading from the previous version. I have the "Plus" version which has been working flawlessly for a while. One big turn off for me with this newer version is the plastic mounting plate. It use to be metal on the previous versions and now Ring has chosen to "cheap out" and make the plate from plastic.

Are the lights dusk to dawn or activated by motion?
I have my own cloud drive in our home, What can Do you think I need?
Just purchased two of them. Do you know what the total Lumens is per light?? Is that 2000 for each side??? Or 2000k total .. Thanks for the great video !!!

Good question. I’m not sure.
Can the ring camera be used for live view? If so is there a delay and how much of a delay is there?
@ErinLawrenceTV
Жыл бұрын
Yes there's live view. The delay is just a couple of seconds from the time I see the notification until I click on it and it loads up. The stream seems to load quickly… Usually my tapping on my phone takes the longest.
Note 1: Apparently if replacing an existing flood lamp or coach light, the associated light switch must remain on. Note 2: Apparently if anyone at home wants to just briefly turn on the lamps it can only be done using the app.
^Can you test the floodlights without connecting it first? Some say the floodlights are not bright enough while others say the lights get flooded
@ErinLawrenceTV
Жыл бұрын
You would have to wire it in to get the lights to work. You could connect the wires to test the brightness without mounting the light first I suppose… Or perhaps there is some electrical electrician gadget out there that can provide temporary power to test the device? Where are my electricians at??

I’m on my second ring doorbell and my second ring floodlight. My main complaint is that they don’t seem to last much over a year or year & half. Gets pretty expensive at that rate.
@ErinLawrenceTV
Жыл бұрын
Sure does :(
How difficult is it to charge the battery or for that matter change the battery for this type of unit?
@ErinLawrenceTV
Жыл бұрын
This one is wired so there’s no need to charge a battery. Even in the battery powered versions, the battery usually simply pops out the bottom and you bring it inside to recharge for about six hours or so.
My lights are on all the time. How do I turn them only to motion.
I wonder why they don't offer an ethernet connection for this. Most people are going to be putting this in remote places of their house like the driveway or garage, where wifi signal is usually weak.
I just replaced a 4 yr. old Ring floodlight camera with this Ring "pro" model for a neighbor. Like many people have experienced, the LED's had started flashing. Here's what I don't like about the new model as opposed to Ring's old unit: 1. The old Ring floodlight cameras were made out of cast aluminum...very sturdy. This new model is all plastic and feels cheaply made. 2. The floodlights on the new model can't be adjusted to as many directions or angles as the old units. If you're mounting this camera under a soffit and on the corner of a building, this becomes a definite problem.
@ErinLawrenceTV
Жыл бұрын
Good point, I agree.
Does it record 24/7 with out sending notifications?
@ErinLawrenceTV
3 жыл бұрын
If there’s no motion happening it essentially takes still photos throughout the day that you can use to see what’s going on and in that case you would not receive notifications.
I hope Ring comes out with daylight lumens instead of Bright light lumens.
Can you turn the lights OFF, i.e. set it so that when motion is detected you are alerted but the intruder is NOT aware?

Do they Have Issues with making there own NOISE (Our ARLO had Static that was so bad we had to turn off the Sound. And Lastly, Our's has this 3D thing, Is that anything Difficult to Use? Thank You Very Much in Advance. I'am Signed up on your Channel Now for future Stuff. I am a SONOS Customer Also and I see a SONOS Box in this Video's Background. I am sorry ring but this is the best you have for a upgrade? Between the amount you charge for your products and subscriptions, this is not going to make me upgrade. And really start looking elsewhere when it comes to upgrading.
