Nice review and comparison, I thought it was fair. I did not expect the diode laser to cut wood as well as the CO2 laser in the K40. The K40 laser alignment is something you could have included, this isn’t necessary for a diode laser. The compatibility with future versions of windows is a very good point, who hasn’t lost some hardware because the last windows update broke some driver? I think you understated the smoke problem, it’s really necessary to get it out of the room, especially in winter when windows need to be closed.

Absolutely. Especially if you are cutting acrylic the smoke is really smelly and working without an exhaust is difficult...

What about lifespan of the laser. Will the diode last longer than the CO2 tube?

I don't know. I have been using my CO2 laser maybe once per week for several years and still use the original tube.

No. Diode lasers can't cut transparent acrylic.
