Thanks, means a lot, I plan on doing a similar review on the Sigma 50mm 1.4 which I have had a while now, in my opinion Sigma make some great lenses and are often underrated by people

I meant when the 150-500 is at 400mm f8, its sharper than the 120-400 IMO, but you're right its a little soft on 500mm.

Is this lens weather sealed in any way? Does weather sealing help prevent dust from getting in the lens?

Thanks for the video i am looking at getting it for my 7D anb could not make my mind up on the canon 100-400mm L or this one but with a tight budget this one is more in my price range and looks to give sharp images .

that's interesting, hadn't heard that before! However Sigma do offer a lens calibration service, I used this on my 50mm 1.4 as it wasn't quite focusing right and the difference is astonishing, putting the lens on my brothers camera it goes back to being mushy but on mine it is super sharp.

from what I have gathered (I have never used this lens in person) I would say that if you don't need the extra 100mm then it is probably the better lens to go with, it has a wider apperture, it is lighter, it is more compact, it is a similar price, it is sharper, it has a standard sized filter and comes with all the same accessories. If however you want the extra range of the 150-500 and you can afford to spend a little more I would recommend the 50-500 as you will get a lot more use out of it.

Should be good, when you get it perform loads of sharpness tests though as I didn't and mine is pretty soft wide open

Are you sure, this is quite a soft lens at wide open and has to be stopped down to around f9 at 500mm to be acceptably sharp!

If you can stretch your budget to the 100-400 you WILL NOT regret it! this needs to be stopped down to f8 to produce sharp images, which means bumping up your ISO meaning grainier pictures, would recommend the 100-400 any day over this!

I use one of those for the same purpose and I like it... Depends on how professional you want your photo to be. Over 400m its quality is not the best... other than that you can get good shots... if you like check my page on facebook (bAse Photos) and see if you like the image quality

The sigma autofocus is crap slow and always hunting around,, woudnt have another sigma lense if it was free.. Nikon all the way for me,, so much better

focus motor of sigma lenses is slow and not good for telephoto , unlike canon

120-400 is not as sharp as this is
