    Thanks Rich for another great video. What I did or my first cantilever diode laser was that I positioned it over a sheet o paper, zeroed it in the starting position, fired a dot, then moved it by hand to its upper left and lower right positions where I felt those could were comfortably reachable positions for the laser head and fired dots as well. Then I measured respective X and Y distances...

I also jumped into your forum and downloaded some libraries, which seem to fit for me. Hey Rich.. I have one of these. It works well and it does what I need it to do. As you found with the eccentric nut it does need a bit of adjusting. Once you have it dialed in, it works great. I'm not in any sort of hurry and I use 2000mm/m at 60% on 3MM wood and I get really nice results. I am sure I can speed it up a bit if need be and still get nice results.. Thanks for the video.

    Great review. I have had my s9 for 2 months this and this review is spot on. It is a nice budget 5w diode laser. Nice to dip you toes in to laser engraving. Do I wish I have the new 20w diodes, yeah, but that money ( to me ) is better spent on a co2 laser. I too noticed the smaller laser area. I wonder if most of the manufactures take this liberty on size. Also agree with advertising. False and misleading advertising just hurts everyone.

    Coming from one who has had the Sculpfun for over 6 months, this review is 110% on. This is my first laser. I learned early to call the module to the home position for EVERY focus change. I still use a sort Kentucky windage routine to precisely set up a job, but I can get a new job to within a mm or two every time. Those thumb screws on the back side of the Sculpfun laser are a demonstration on how NOT to engineer a hobby laser. I am quite sure that even I wouldn't have "engineered" that "solution" for an adjustment on a laser. Thanks to your channel and your generous sharing of files, I use your coaster template--and a dozen or so variants of the same--for job set up. Those templates, along with a background in operating a fleet of laser guided vehicles in a manufacturing setting, do make setting up a job much more fun. In all cases, thank you for sharing your knowledge along with these videos! Dave

    @@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I don't "need" a laser engraver, but "want" one... ;) Of course, I'm going to go with a DIOD version. I've seen almost every vid there is on them it seems. I kind of like that 20 wat xTool that they have rolled out, but do I need to spend the 1K on it? Of course not. What I have a little bit of an issue is figuring out, does it cut a whole lot faster than a 5 watt? I saw your video on the Bamboo pens. I make pens in my wood shop, so this would be a nice addition. I'd be able to personalize these pens.

    Funny trivia... I had to change those speed values for my Z1; it was capped at about 5000 with a 10W head🤔🤦🏼 Your new test card is nice for etching a record for reference. I still find myself starting w/ the power scale file. Uses less material and helps me get in the ballpark for the universal card. I think you were generous w/ 95%, but I'm a tough room.

    Hallo. I have followed your videos with great interest and have learned much from them. Thank you very much. May I please ask for your advice on plywood cutting? I own a S9 and have struggled with cutting different sheets of plywood, plain and high-grade birch, 4 - 6 mm thick. I get them cut, my settings being: max power 75% (not to shorten the life expectancy of the diode too much) , speeds between 300 and 230 and 3 - 5 passes. My problem is that the cut face in too scorched / charred to be of any use. It also smells very bad. Is it the glue in the plywood that causes this problem? All my trials to run the settings up and down do not yield a usable cut. I guess some drastic change of settings is necessary. In your experience, what should I do: set power down, speed up and number of passes up to 6 ,7 or 8? Will a higher number of passes with less cutting force be the cure? Or what other direction should be taken? Thanks. Emanuel

  • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy

    @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy

    You have to use a test card to get the settings you like Emanuel. Just keep adjusting the speed and power until you get what you want.
