One cool thing about the Bluetooth radios like this is that when connecting phone to this radio, using through music playing app on phone you can use equalizer to boost up bass. This radio, for it's prize and small 20W RMS output power actually sounds pretty good. And tested myself, usb port can be used for charging other devices.

CD work too noisy for bedroom

I recently picked this up after watching this review, I suffer from migrains which makes getting a hifi a challenge. This was pretty much spot on what i needed, great sound without being too bass/treble heavy 👍Thanks for such a detailed review.

Is there a 'random' or 'mix' option for the usb stick? I.e. can I put 100 songs on the usb stick and hit random?

Hi. How than good are the AM and FM radio reception? About Bluetooth, I was testing on tech market, I could not find pairing BT my mobile with this one.

These are actually quite good, Panasonic have always made good midi/mini systems. The speakers on this are basically micro versions of the speakers they made for their midi systems in the early 90s. Even though it doesn't have auxilery input at least you can still playback any cassettes you have already converted to mp3 by putting them on a USB as long as they are mp3 format. The main unit is a very nice finish, it's cool that some units are still made with a silver front but it's nice they went for a black finish with the speakers and the unit's outer case. Would I buy something like this if my current system failed? Not unless it was all I could afford. I think if your playing compilation albums this will certainly sound reasonable but the lack of auxilery input might be a bit limiting if you wish to connect a record player or a cassette deck.

KZread have strict rules about music and copyrights but my new radio reviews use music that is mostly in the public domain so i do play the music for them. Also, audio reviews via a video camera are misleading., You only really hearing the response of my microphone so the review of the audio is better than the listening test if you not in front of the radio yourself. But i get your point.

Good review! Would you recommend using the speakers with a different amp?

no, speakers are very entry level. Wouldn't waste any time with this unit

I have the sc-pm252 does the usb have to be formatted to listen to mp3/flac on this?

I own the SA-PM250B version of this Radio which has DAB/FM instead of AM/FM, had it since 2018 and use it all the time, mainly as a CD Player. I'm not sure what the reviewer is on about with Heavy Music lol I play Rock and Metal all the time on mine. My only gripe with it was the rubbish stick on the wall ariel that I replaced with a proper screw in one.

the 20W RMS output power is based on 1/8 of 1% THD, 1KHz 0 dB input signal , this means the amp is driving the dual speaker system before the 1% sine wave began clipping at 1% distortion. This is I believe is based on EN standard for audio stereo models.

bugsy 101073 You seem to have a very good knowledge about the technical side. They claim a power output of 10 Watts RMS per channel but at 6 ohms and 10% THD. So I think this model will give 6-7 Watts (max.) RMS per channel at 8 ohms. Do you agree with me? Thanks for a reply.

Hi, Great review. I need a hi fi system for my Meditation groups in my office. I need something that I play at low levels, but with the sound very good, meaning, not sounding to tiny, but with a bit of bass in the sound. I cannot find anything yet that when you have it on low that sounds good. They all sound very tinny. Would this system to the job do you think ?

i think the model you refer to is much better than the one in this video and its highly likely that the power is higher. www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/home-entertainment/hi-fi/sc-pmx92gn.html From the specs it says the power consumption is 40W therefore each speaker is about 15-20W RMS each. Unfortunately the manufactures exaggerate wattage to sell their products. They use weird formulae to calculate these crazy wattage values. Simply put you cannot have more power output than power input so if power consumed from your electricity supply is 40W then speaker cannot be more than 20W each considering there are other losses along the way, so 15-20W.

Press playmenu until tunemode, select presets instead of manual with arrows, then press ok. Now you can switch between channels stored also from then unit.

Why I can't connect via Bluetooth with my laptop or on my phone? I check all the settings on the laptop and everything is ok. it seems the problem is with the Panasonic system itself. Any suggestions, please?

I’ve just had the same issue and solved it today. I contacted Panasonic support online and they gave me instruction on how to update the firmware. Works perfect now. Hope that helps

Its a damn neat machine just got it for the power-packed features in a micro unit! @ecologicaltime/others who have this - were you able to figure out how to keep the CLOCK always ON, even after power off? In a way when in standby mode, the clock display turns off after a few seconds which is quite annoying as I'd also like to use this as a clock to show and view time at all times! I use it in the bedroom on the sidetable and consideting it comes with alarms and timers and what have you - there just HAS to be a way to keep the clock showing at ALL TIMES and not needing to press DISPLAY just to view time. : ( Can someone please help? Gotta be a silly funny simple setting somewhere just cant seem to find it - yet!! : ) SOS my fellas? Thanks so much!

Dunno if you'll see this comment...but can't connect the Bluetooth for some reason....am I doing something wrong.

There is no DSP on the 'radio', this is only low electronics knowledge. There is a PLL radio, with standard FM/AM output, that is sent to the amplifier. If the sound is not good for somebody's expectations is only because the speakers are small. The rest in the unit is simply super ok, at the level that electronics reached today and Panasonic is using in its products. Wanna better sound, bass, treble etc, pay more money on something bigger made by quality producers, Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer etc. But there is nothing wrong built into the radio, internal amplifier or whatsoever :)

when the radio costs only a little less than competing models that are much better, then there is something wrong...the wrong is that its priced too high, well at least in my country. The PLL for maintaining the FM frequency in the radio settings.
