    Tim. Thanks for your observations. You installed a 2d keyed switch. What items / areas does the original switch turn off & what additional items does the 2d switch disconnect? What advantage(s) do you experience with this mod of the original design? One more question, if I may. Has PEBL installed any front area, behind the body, "bumper" to the main frame? Originally, the nose of the body shell has been secured only by the two screws there in the center of the front frame. It does work & keeps the weight down. Just curious because you were talking about recent changes & front-end impacts do happen. 8^)

    Very cool. I am looking for an electric bike to do a cross country tour in. I was looking at regular 2 wheeled electric bikes towing a trailer with a solar panel...but then I saw this and thought....hmmm 🤔. That’s interesting. I also saw the ELF which looks similar. But the PEBL seems to be more fully featured. I wonder what the range would be fully loaded with touring gear. And how long it takes to charge the battery thru solar.

    Nice intro. Like Bike Tall, a cross country intriques me. I notice you skipped the solar roof panel. Any reason, other than the added battery's offer enough range to rely on being able to plug in somewhere?

    Hi Tim, what is the longest commute you would undertake on your PEBL in winter? I'm in Eastern Ontario, and drive 50 km to work (each way), and am relatively fit. Wondering if this would be a workable option (in your opinion). Thanks!

    I was wondering the size of the size of the better.bike logos on front, sides and back and general size of the sides of the sides below the windows behind the doors like 12"×12" H x W space ? And the back hatch logo where it says PEBL? Maybe size of the back window as well? And width of windshield? I'm considering getting a pebl soon and want to advertise on it .

    I would love to review it but unfortunately I think they're new version has hit a lot of snags. They've been moving it around from place to place. It's started out being built-in Germany now. It's built somewhere else now nobody's building it. They've had lots of problems. It's been a few years for them. And I think it's basically vaporiwear.

    Hello Tim, thank you for your video. I just seen one of these the other day as I was leaving Best Buy on my ebike. I live in Winnipeg where i started winter commuting in 2020. We are a very snowy & -20c climate from Dec-Mar. I was wanting to upgrade to a 3 wheeler as snow over ice is too slippery. I don’t have a garage but plan to get a big shed(then take the battery inside to work/home). Having no garage, would you recommend the Peble for my climate? Battery hard to remove? Also do u worry about theft when in public? Thanks!

  • @timhellsten

    Well, if you saw one at Best Buy in Winnipeg, that’s mine that was me. I was probably at Best Buy as well. there’s only one in Winnipeg and it’s mine as far as riding in the cold climate I don’t take it out in the winter it can probably handle it but the batteries are large they don’t come out easily, so pulling them out every time I go in somewhere it would be not good. I am as well I’m getting an E bike to ride in the winter unfortunately I don’t think the pebble would be very good in the sense that if there was ever an opportunity for it to break down, then it’s something that because it weighs so much you may not want to be peddling that home in the snow noting that the pebble weighs about 250 pounds

  • @timhellsten

    @timhellsten

    Жыл бұрын

    Well, I have written it in many times in Winnipeg in severe thunderstorms, I have had no problems obviously, if cars pass you and kick up a bunch of water, visibility becomes an issue but if it’s not bad, I just pull over and wait for half an hour until the weather starts to subside and then I drive. As far as a walker would go I would think you would have room in the back I can take three big Supervalu containers and put them in one on the seat and two in the back so I would think he would be able to put a walker if it fold it up into the box somehow. The other option would be to make some sort of a bracket for the top and just put your walker on the top and strap it down

  • @popeyegordon

    Floor, wood dash board, shell liner, rear suspension and most of all the choice of a heavy fiberglass body doomed the PEBL to a serious problem of being over weight. This is why the illegal 1500 watt 'off road' switch was added. There is a loyal following despite that but if you want to travel long distances a used ELF is better, having proved its worth with three 4000 mile journeys. One owner wrote a book about her journey, one made a movie available here at KZread.

    Organic Transit (who makes the ELF, PEBL's only competition) filed for bankruptcy, so the PEBL now has no competition which isn't a good thing. They already removed the solar panel as an option. Now instead of paying $400 for it, you have to buy the PEBL eco which is another $1,000 above the price of the standard model (over $11,000). They also made the windshield wiper which used to be standard an option. I think it's about $350. By the time you add things like a 50mi battery, full enclosure, windshield wiper, bike lock, etc; it ends up being over $13,000. You can finance it though. It's around $200 over 5 years. If you want an ELF you can find them used online because a lot of people have sold theirs. No such luck with a PEBL. I guess they hold their value better than the ELF? Not surprising. The ELF rattles like crazy when riding it. Just search youtube for videos of an ELF test drive. Better Bike changed their logo from what's in the video too.

    PEBL was outsourced to Germany during the pandemic. It will undergo a redesign. The original was too heavy. Wipers ruin plastic windshields. 1000 ELFS were sold, only under 200 PEBLs which were too heavy and could not climb hills were sold. ELF has a new owner - Sun Micro is moving the factory to a different town in NC and they are designing the improved ELF 2.0 now. Prices will continue to climb as will sales because cars are not sustainable. In 6 years my ELF has saved me $19,000 because I got rid of my car. Pays for itself quickly.
