Review of the 2022 Indian Chief Dark Horse and Chief Bobber

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

*Torque figures I quoted are from the Chieftain line using the same engines. The actual torque specs of the Chief is a smidge lower. The 116 is actually 120Ft-Lb and the 111 is 109Ft-Lb vs the engines in the touring line at 126 and 119. I did not catch this until after the video was made.*
A back to back ride on Indian's newest platform. Yes it is long, but two bikes back to back make it worth it.

    Great review. Personally as a Victory owner its great to see the Indian brand FINALLY implement some of the Victory styling into their range. Looks like the Victory Gunner. Its the first time I'd consider purchasing an Indian. The styling is competing more with the HD Softail Slim and Street Bob without the usual Indian "bells and tassels" look they usually go for. Great job Indian keep making bikes like this one.

    Until this video, I was seriously dead-set on buying a StreetBob (3.5 G tank 😞), ST Slim or a Sportglide. Now... sheesh, I really have to look at the Chief Darkhorse; for realsies. The looks, the torque, the tech... wow!!! The only con for me is the 4G tank, which should’ve been 5 but it’s not a dealbreaker- at all. That Chief Darkhorse is a future purchase.

    Awesome review- there is not as much on the 111 bobber, everything is on the dark horse variant- I have a 2023 Chief bobber 111, black metallic. I love the bike. I came from a scout 60. The power is more than adequate and it gets up and goes very stealthy. I’m at 60mph without any effort. The scout was more visceral but the Chief is so much more. I love the stock sound even too- it’s subdued in the neighborhood and the sound comes alive at the time I like. Only upgrade is a performance air intake filter, the bike is perfect from the factory and I plan on riding it everywhere- I never thought I’d own an 1811cc bike like the bobber- Indian knocked it out in my opinion.

    @@goingfatherhood2420 I've had mine for a couple weeks now (I ended up getting one almost immediately after I left my original comment because the guy who originally ordered it backed out, so I got dibs). The cool thing about this bike that you just don't get with the Harleys is that you have ride modes. While the power delivery in Sport mode is very aggressive, it's very manageable in Standard mode and downright docile in Touring mode. I wouldn't worry about the power because Indian gives you the tools to tailor it to your experience level and/or riding preferences.

    @@sasca854 Just put my down deposit yesterday, I wasn't able to test ride or even see a dark horse as my dealer said they weren't getting any for long enough to hold on the showroom. All I was able to see was a super chief (non dark horse). What are some things you would say are important to note? Also, what kind of mods are you looking forward to now that you're used to the bike and its power delivery? What's it lacking? I ordered the chief dark horse and thinking of doing the rogue upgrade which includes a stage 2 kit, air intake, and exhaust

  • @sasca854

    @sasca854

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@bikesandchikn I'm actually planning to sell mine now and get a Harley. I wanted to get stage 1 done (pipes and heavy breather air cleaner) and long story short, the Indian dealer and Indian corporate tag teamed their way into convincing me they had no idea what they are doing. What they promised me was a 2-hour in and out job turned out to my bike being in the shop for a week before I finally managed to get them to get the bike back to stock so I could take I home (it's my main mode of transportation right now). They were never able to complete the job because they couldn't figure out how to flash the stage 1 tune, and Indian corporate's engineers were totally incompetent at getting it figured out (they never did). Nobody seemed to be in a rush to get it figured out despite my repeated pleas to get it done quickly because, as I mentioned, it's my main form of transportation. Almost no third party companies make anything for Indian and even fewer make anything for the '22 chiefs yet. Indian has barely been able to roll out even first party accessories. I wanted to get mini apes and they're backordered until August. Long story short, I'm just going to get a Harley because they seem to have their shit together.

    After watching your video and one other actual riding review, I'm convinced that this is an absolute must demo ride to consider for my next purchase. I have been a long time Harley hater and now I find myself a little bit worried for Harley and their future. Even though Harley finally has something fresh releasing soon ( Pan American) it feels like they are still just lost when it comes to a connection with the consumer. Indian teases just enough and then gets a bike out there for reviews and Hands-On demos before you can lose interest. And then before you know it they are teasing you with something else new. The Scout bobber, new touch-screen, FTR, Challenger and now the new chief. It's like I have a backlog of things at Indian I want to test ride and take a closer look at. Indian is just killing it.👍

    Not 100% sure with the software that was in the bikes as they were in "engineering demo" mode. I like the larger engine with the mid controls and cast wheels, but I prefer the mini-apes and the speedometer of the bobber. The first gauge looked hard to see at times. It may have just been the camera making it seem that way. The cruise control should be mounted on the left side so you aren't trying to turn it on with the same hand that you are using to control your speed. Not a major issue, but I just think it would be better. For me personally I would have no use for the different modes, the GPS, or connecting with my phone. As far as seats go I have never seen a good seat from the factory, so it is just a given that it would be replaced. I would also replace the exhaust with something that didn't stick out so far. The length of the pipes just looks odd.
