Review of Starfish Cuatro Palmas Varadero
Beth and I spent about 3 weeks at the Cuatro Palmas Hotel in Varadero in January 2023. Overall, having stayed at about 20 other hotels during our winter 2023 bike touring season, we placed this hotel near the top of our list of best stays. It is a good 4-star hotel.
Highlights are: right in the heart of Varadero town with all the stores, bars, and restaurants; good food and selection; excellent beach with great sand, adults only :-); and, great staff.
Negatives would be: rooms along the road are noisy as there is vehicle traffic and a very loud disco/bar across the street (ask for a room away from the street); food not as good as more expensive hotels but still good.

It's big enough to have lots of features, but not big like those along the peninsula. It remains full all of the high season.
How is the food, the only reason we haven't been to Cuba is because we have never heard anything good about the food

The food is good but basic. Cubans don't like spicy food so it's just not their thing. We enjoyed the food at the Cuatro Palmas and the variety was fine for us. But honestly, people have very different expectations for food - it comes down to what you are comfortable with. Also, you get what you pay for with an all-inclusive, if you pay a lower price, they will cut the variety and complexity of the food they serve. Cuatro Palmas is slightly better than average, as you would expect for the price.
