The CUBA They Don't Want You To See 🇨🇺 Havana 2024

Ойын-сауық

Havana walking tour of the Cuba they don't want you to see in 2024.
Top Cuba Travel Tips:
1) Can U.S. Citizens travel to Cuba? Yes.
While flying to Cuba for tourist activities remains prohibited by statute (hence the title of this video), there are 13 other permitted reasons for travel. The main reason most American visitors should choose is: 'Support for the Cuban people'.
2) Do US Citizens require a Visa? Yes
You can easily purchase the visa at a Cuban visa kiosk at your departure airport. The visa costs $50 - $100 depending on the airline. Just arrive at the airport a little earlier to fill out the form and obtain the visa which gives you 60 days in Cuba (with a possible 30-day extension).
Europeans and Canadians can obtain a Cuba Tourist Card which gives you 90 days in Cuba. You can extend your Cuban tourist visa for an additional 90 days, for a total of 180 days.
3) Do you need Health Insurance to visit Cuba? Yes
U.S. Citizens / Green Card holders who fly to Cuba directly via the U.S. are automatically insured because a $25 fee is added to your ticket price. Keep your boarding pass as proof of health insurance and if you do require medical assistance, you present your boarding pass and passport at the hospital in Cuba.
Everyone else (Canada/UK/Germany/Russia etc) can obtain cheap health insurance at Solways Cuba website.
4) Do US Credit and Debit cards work in Cuba? No.
With very few exceptions, U.S. credit and debit cards do not currently work in Cuba. You should bring U.S. dollars to Cuba and exchange them for Cuban Pesos (CUP). Make sure the US bills do not have any marks or tears as these may not be accepted. In addition, you can check the current informal foreign market rate in Cuba on the ELTOQUE website.
European and other debit and credit cards may or may not work in Cuba but you should not rely on this as you will get a very bad exchange rate using your card at the ATM or stores. It is recommended you bring Euros or US dollars.
5) How much cash should I bring? Recommended $50 to $100 a day.
Bring more cash than you will need as it is better to take home the extra dollars you didn't spend than to run out of cash in the middle of your Cuba trip. Many visitors have run out of money in the middle of their trip due to not bringing enough cash.
6) Can I get Internet access on my phone while in Cuba? Yes.
You can purchase a Cuban tourist sim card in advance of your trip and pick it up when you arrive at the airport in Cuba. Visit the SUENA CUBA website to order the SIM card.
7) Do I need a VPN for my trip to Cuba? Yes
Everyone should download a VPN (recommend NordVPN or Express VPN) on both your laptop and mobile phone BEFORE you travel to Cuba. This is because some websites and apps are blocked if you try to access them in Cuba. For example, you cannot book an Airbnb while you are in Cuba without a VPN.
8) How much is a taxi ride from the airport in Havana to the city center? $25
There are taxis outside the airport in Havana into the city and most will charge $25 US dollars. Make sure to ask and confirm the fare.
9) What essential items should i bring with me to Cuba?
Bring all your medication, toiletries (including female hygiene), body spray for mosquitos and sunscreen.
10) Can i stay in a hotel or Airbnb for my trip to Cuba?
Americans can book and stay in an Airbnb in Cuba but are prohibited from staying in certain hotels that are owned entirely or partially by the Cuban government. Choose: 'Support for the Cuban people' when booking your Airbnb. Europeans and everyone else can book both an Airbnb or stay in any hotel you wish.
11) Can I drink tap water? No, Don't do it.
Drink only bottled water and also use to brush your teeth. Also do not consume drinks with ice as they may also have been made from tap water.
12) What should I bring as gifts for the Cuban People?
Over-the-counter medication such as multivitamins, Ibuprofen, Tylenol / paracetamol. Female hygiene products. Bandaids. Personal care products such as deodorant, soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste. Chocolates. Clothing. Shoes.

I traveled extensively across the island of Cuba in the summer of 2016, from Havana to Holguin, Santiago, Camaguei, Sancti Spiritus, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, Matanzas and Varadero. It is a wonderful island, with lovely and friendly people, landscapes and historical remains and monuments, lots of involving music and an engaging atmosphere. It's also a time travel as it often feels like you're going back to 1957 or even earlier. Of course the standards are not those of Western countries or the USA, but you can adapt to them without effort. It is a journey that every traveler should undertake, with humility and an open mind to return enriched in soul and heart. I loved you Cuba and its people!

I am Cuban and travel there often to see my family. I bring supplies from anything like candy to prescription eye glasses & everything in between. I also send many packages with medicines for the old & children. This video is very arcuate of the many struggles of the people , but believe it or not most seem to be content. A couple of corrections. You can book accommodations using a CC but it all has to be done through a 3rd country Mexico , Canada or Spain. I also bring a MIFI device for internet but I rarely use since I'm there to visit family. Most Cubans do pay for some sort or rent or mortgage. Power is cheap so you will see a lot of electric types of inexpensive transportation. One of the most impressive things is severe crimes like murder , rape , pedophilia , robberies really don't exists , but it does happen from time to time. Justice is swift. You notice all the produce? It's the best I've ever tasted in my life , no chemical fertilizers. But you notice no proteins like beef , chicken , fish etc. You can bring loads of cash but things are very hard to get. No supermarkets or department stores. Well if your not of "The Party". The people don't talk politics openly but in private they can't understand why a fraction the U.S.A. population want's to become Communist/Socialist. Me either. I'm one of the lucky ones I got out when I was 5 , I am now 61. Shoot I have Spanish zero accent . I am grateful to America & God Bless her & keep her safe always. Y para los Cubanos. Super enjoyable video. TY so much for sharing. Not sure why you called it "The CUBA they don't want you to see". I've been to Cuba >15 times and this is just the way it looks in Havana and Santiago. Getting to more rural spots is greener and fresher of course. The cities are crumbling. Everyone sees that all the time. BTW Canadian credit cards work in Cuba and Canadians make up about 40% of tourists - if you are in spots that use credit of course, which is not many. Again, fabulous walking tour of Havana. :)

One there was a power cut at night while sitting at the pool area , the stars in the sky were amazing , I'd never seen anything like it or will again. while out in the city we felt more safe than in London , our own capital. Highly recommend a visit. The people were lovely to. I'd go back tomorrow.

Besides the subject, which is obviously magnificent and very interesting, I really like the camera angle, which is wide enough without being distorting, and also the sound. I also like that people don't seem to realize they're being filmed. You literally feel like you're walking through the streets of Havana yourself. What equipment did you use to make this video?

I hope that the economic challenges that these wonderful people endure are eliminated. This video tour provides an accurate depiction of what one experiences.....nice job.

I wouldn't dare say that before 1959 Cuba was a "prosperous" nation. But undoubtedly what no one can deny was the accelerated growth of the economy before 1959, and the enormous monetary stability, a reflection of that growth, which made the Cuban peso on par (sometimes better) than the US dollar. Cuba was compared with high-growth economies, not like now, when it is compared with miserable countries like Haiti, or Africa and even with the Brazilian favelas and everything most backward in the world (even the foreign pro-Castro communists themselves do). Batista was intelligent despite being a military man, he knew that the economic advance of Cuba, a country with few resources, was in attracting capital, no matter what and without ridiculous moralisms. And he achieved it. That is why the great construction works in Cuba obey his stage of government. but the people, always stunned by so much moralistic propaganda, only felt frustrated because they had carried out a coup d'état and had violated the much-adored Constitution of 1940. Now the people of Cuba are paying for their foolishness for having supported an egomaniacal megalomaniac in 1959. like Fidel Castro, who degenerated from a leader to a tyrant, and who turned Cuba into a satellite and parasite of the USSR, and who destroyed Cuba not only economically, but as a nation, at all levels.
