Hi Rob, and thanks for the review. I have been driving transits for about 16 years now. had a mk5 petrol, then a mk6 deisel for 11 years, then another mk6 but a higher spec. Have just gone out today and bought a 2014 transit custom, and pick it up next week. I enjoyed viewing your review and hope yours is going well. Looking forward to getting mine, and the only thing i was thinking of doing, was getting mine remapped to aprox 130hp.

Great review my man. Delighted to see someone post what I'd need in my van as a decorator. Tip on a decent racking company was appreciated, be looking them up. When you'd first started I wondered what you'd have to stop tubs of paint slipping about. Have been looking for some sort of floor storage to stop the 10ltr tubs sliding as they did in my vivaro, not a van I'd recommend. Hope your keeping busy, cheers 🙏

Hi Rob. Good review. It is never easy to get a trade specific view on any vehicles for our ( any ) trade. I posted a question about vans on bib and braces site. No answers.I have a transit med height. I can just about stand inside it and do not really want to go back to standard height. Plus it gives a lockable overhead storage area, very useful. Not sure I would go for this one. I might look at the bigger Transit, not the Custom. Perhaps next year if works busy enough. Looks good inside and out. Your storage is set up like i have at present, albeit yours is tidier. Its not until you put in dust sheets, paint trays etc that it builds up. I want everything with me which is ridiculous I know ! Hoover, airless unit, ceros sanding kit and on and on I need a truck.

Not a bad Review. I know you said you were a Painter by Trade but the only problem I find with Ford Transit's, as a Carpenter is you can't get an 8' x 4' sheet of Ply in the back unless you put it on the diagonal.

Get an Transita L2 H1 and it will fit

Great video mate. It can take around 10,000 miles or more to really bed in a Diesel engine so only then will you see the true fuel economy. I drove a transit the other week and loved it.

Love the racking system too, although I would probably opt for just one side.

How do you find your new one on diesel

I wish ford would bring this to the states. Looks awesome. My TC is a little too small. The transit is too big. Custom is perfect.

I just bought an early 2014 Champions League Edition. Including parking censors, rearview camera, lane assist, AC, and so on! I realy love it! What a Van! The only thing thats' a bit anoying are the brake pad sensors wicht are a weak design in my opinion.

I've done 67000 km's in my Transit Custom now and i'm still really happy with it, its a really quick good driving van (almost like a sports car) I've got the long wheelbase version with all options except leather seats and the sports package. It carry's heavy loads without a problem, but it is a bit slower in Eco mode though cause of the engine changing its driving to the weight. What's you'r opinion about the seats now you've drove it for a longer period? I get a soar lowerback on longer journey's, but I think thats because of the straight up position against the wall between the cabin and loadarea..

This van is pretty much identical (including radio, LED lights in the back, full bulkhead etc.) to what I need other than the shelves in the back. How much did it cost excluding the shelves? Also is that 240v outlet powerful enough to run a laptop?

What would you recommend out of the ford transit custom and the Vauxhall vivaro biturbo for a mechanics van?

Did you have the ‘secret’ 12v supply in the back of the van? Offside rear just below the rear light ? If there’s a cut out hole purposely made to accept the 12v in the panel then you have the plug adapter that is hidden away in just below where the wiring is for the rear lights. You just need to buy the actual 12v socket from Halfords and just plug it in 👍🏻

Great review, question: is that the short wheel base or the long wheel base?

I love driving my custom but theres nowhere to store paperwork etc safely without it falling out unlike my old Scudo. Stuff in the overhead compartment always falls out and anything in the door panels falls out when you open the door. Put paperwork on the seats & it flies off when cornering. It would also be nice to turn off the 12v accessory socket once you turn off the ignition rather than stay on for half an hour which my dash cam doesnt like.

does the van have courtesy lights on the side mirrors?

Good in-depth video rob my contract on my Renault traffic runs out in 3 months and I am considering the new transit is this the 130 ps version mate

I own one, they are fantastic, comfy to drive etc. They have a bad name with reliably but it’s how you look after them.

Best Transit video I’ve seen yet Rob. I’ve been searching due to a Sync problem I’ve been having. Mine says “initializing Bluetooth”, and my phone won’t pair.. Apparently Fords do this every so often, and they say to go to the fuse box, pop out the fuse, and push it back in.. no one can tell me where the fuse box is, and if this is true.. Has yours done it?? Any help regarding fuse box location, and fuse number, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Rob Gardner yeh, as i suspected, speaking to a ford dealer today, he said they have chopped and changed their spec quite reguarly, if you have it, it will be in the menu 'settings'- 'lighting', and then it'll be in there, with HD Delay and rain lights, thanks for the reply, and its a great van anyway, im well pleased with it, all the best!

Do anybody have the same problem as I, my legs hurt from the vibration of the van horrible to drive

Do these vans come with an upwards opening back door? An upwards opening back door provides protection from rain if you have to work at the back of the van in a rainy day.

Looks like a really good van. How do you find the indicator stalk being the same side as the gear lever, Australian, Korean and Japanese right hand drive cars have them on the other side which feels correct. I saw this van is being sold in Australia soon but the fact the indicator is on the same side as the gear lever is a turn off especially if your family car has the indicator on the right, your forever turning wipers on instead of indicating in both cars because you can't get in a routine. Why can't they make the indicator/wiper stalks programable so you customise what they do like the key remote?(rhetorical question)

thanks BL0HARD. I have never found that the indicator stalk is in the way. I fact i think most vans and cars i have owned have it set up like this in the uk. With this van the wipers are automatic and very good at stating as soon as it rains, so in theory you won't get mixed up between the indicator and wiper. Its a great van and i wouldn't let the position of a stalk put you off.

Thanks. Its a great van. MPG not as good as i hope. Still only around 27-30mpg. sometime up to 37mpg if I'm doing a lot of motorway driving. Overall i would get one again.

Will Bourne Hi. Overall its a very good van. Sure it had a few faults but Ford sorted them all out. I think new van being made now have had a lot of the issues now fixed.

A 2013 Vito 113 LWB is getting on average 36-38mpg. Town gets down to 34mpg and 42-45mpg on motorways. So, much better. Have friends with this type of ford and all of them are complaining about fuel consumption. Does not get better...

How much did it cost Rob? And does it come with 2 side doors as an optional

it was about £16k plus the vat. not sure on the doors sorry.

2.2 TDCi transit have oil pump issue. It's very wise to upgrade to older version of oil pump. Tooth one.

can you fit 8x4 ft plasterboard on its side against the racking?

We are getting 22mpg out of our 61 plate vivaro sportive only done 47,000 and gear box is on its way out i think its a shit tbh

i have two 125 LWB models.only getting 29mpg out of them. with about 750kg of racking and tools full time in the vans anyone else experiencing mpg like this?

Hi mate. I'm now getting around 30-33 mpg. Roof rack and normally loaded up with gear. I have done 6.5k now and thing are slowly getting better.

Hi @robkirby I have done about 1500 so far. Not had any problems. Im getting about 500miles per tank full. The hard drivers seat is also now improving a little so i think in time it will be fine.

Why couldn't ford carry on with the old transit? Shame to see it go, the mk7 was the best (after you install deadlocks)

Nice interior but despite mine being more basic I would rather have my Trafic....not a big Ford fan and no way have i got time for all those buttons and controls for the radio etc. Basic stereo and a parrot system is what I've got in mine. The only thing I would like in mine is more comfortable seats. Oh and I'm getting nearly 34mpg from an 08 Trafic!

MPG is a bit crap TBH. Around the city its about 26-30, up to 35 on a long run.

Not just ford. Companies test conditions include removing side mirrors, seats, etc to get the best MPG. On an empty, flat track. I personally think it should be law that it has to be real lift testings.

Which van is more reliable, Iveco daily or ford transit?

If you are really looking for reliability then please don't buy a custom transit. They are the worst van on the road. If you do make the mistake and buy a transit custom then keep at least £6000.00 I a easy access account for the inevitable day when the van breaks down. I wish you the best of luck with the lame duck that ford has conned us all with.
