The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF; French: Forces armées canadiennes, FAC) are the unified military forces of Canada, including sea, land, and air elements referred to as the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army, and Royal Canadian Air Force.
Personnel may belong to either the Regular Force or the Reserve Force, which has four sub-components: the Primary Reserve, Supplementary Reserve, Cadet Organizations Administration and Training Service, and the Canadian Rangers. Under the National Defence Act, the Canadian Armed Forces are an entity separate and distinct from the Department of National Defence (the federal government department responsible for the administration and formation of defence policy), which also exists as the civilian support system for the forces.
The Canadian Armed Forces are a professional volunteer force that consists of approximately 68,000 active personnel and 27,000 reserve personnel, with a sub-component of approximately 5,000 Canadian Rangers. The armed forces currently has over 3,000 personnel deployed overseas in multiple operations, such as Operation Snowgoose in Cyprus, Operation Unifier supporting Ukraine, Operation Caribbe in the Caribbean Sea, and Operation Impact as part of military intervention against ISIL.
The command-in-chief of the Canadian Armed Forces is constitutionally vested in the monarch, Charles III, who is represented by the governor general (or the administrator). The professional head of the organization is the chief of the Defence Staff, who under the direction of the minister of national defence and together with the assistance of the Armed Forces Council, manages the operations of the Canadian Armed Forces. In 2021, Canada's military expenditure totalled approximately $26.4 billion, or around 1.3 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP).

I think being a formidably equipped ground force is something we should strive for continuously, we don't ever want to lose this capability, while there is still good training doctrine and infrastructure to keep our soldiers in the game. But I think air assets should be priority and pilot training and incentive, as this is another thing in the CAF and RCAF that is fading but is probably the biggest deterrent of any opposing military that doesn't have the ICBM card, i mean aside from a nuclear submarine fleet with both hunter killer and ballistic capability. It's tough because there are so many tiers of defense that are needed when talking about peer 2 peer confrontation and so many more advantages a larger peer has to negate them. First step is to stop politicizing military procurement and stop using it as a political platform, it is destroying our capabilities. They need to start combing our Heathcare system like they do with the military, the massive expenditure that is failing, im not saying get rid of it because when it does, it helps Canadians, but there is clearly a bloat, yet a severe lack of care. Especially if the US becomes isolationist, there will be more wars with even bigger stakes in the near future if there is no formidable deterrent.@@davidlefranc6240

Next war, there won't be any time to refit weak naval vessels, Quebec City or Halifax. Look at littoral fleets, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Russia, then u will see the disparity staring into your face. Our present officer corps is too busy memorizing 42 acceptable pronun table from university of Wisconsin or learning spy talk for Canadian tick in the box.
