Recall is actually to scroll through locomotives and consists you have programmed in. You can hold up to 6 locomotives/consists at once and scroll through them to control them. Select ACCY is actually Select Accessory, and is used to input an accessory number to do things such as control turnouts on your layout. The Shift function will also let you access functions 10-19, and 20-28. So you can use all 28 functions of a locomotive which has that many. Just some extra info you were questioning. Mostly from me for anyone watching who may need to know if they are considering purchasing NCE. Our layout uses NCE Procab and it is a great system overall.

I am converting to DCC and just bought the NCE Power Cab. Firstly, the Power Cab is the best choice I could have made. It worked flawlessly. Also, I needed some technical help as well as some parts (PCP Panels & EB-1's). NCE tech support is top notch. They are responsive and the parts I needed were sent to me without delay. I'm sold on NCE for their products, sales service and tech support.

My friend you just answers a question I didn't even know I had. About a month ago I was browsing a local brick and mortar and seen that same set on the shelf. Was a little curious but because I haven't even started my benchwork yet I didn't give it a second thought. But now that I see what this starter set has I think I have made the decision to return to that shop and purchase that exact same set. Thanks again man, and keep them awesome vids comin

Hi, this was very helpful to me, I am switching from DC to DCC, have tried several DCC controls on loan including Hornby and Peco, but this NCE PowerCab for the price looks to have blown them out the water. The ergonomics of the controller look great too and I have one on pre order in the UK now. Thanks again for the demo.

Nice review James, although as already been mentioned below, you were a bit out on your description of the "Recall" button, in that it allows you to control up to six loco, and the "Recall" allows you to scroll through and access each. I have a DC British outline layout and on a whim bought an American Bachmann FA2 and FB2 with sound. They got me hooked on DCC American outline railroads. I have had six American sound locos running on my DC British layout, which hasn't had any wiring modifications in order to get it to work...............I just turned on all the section switches, and have a two way input switch, DCC one way and DC the other. I started of with the basic Bachmann DCC controller but quickly realised it didn't allow me to program anything, so did some homework and picked the NCE Powercab you reviewed here. I can't be happier with it and am glad to see you reviewing it here. Thanks.

Great system, I use it in San Diego on their layout but they have the bigger system, I use my power cab throttle and it works great, I might add you can get a SPB (smart buster that is a 5 amp booster add o,at about $175 YOU NOW HAVE A FULL SYSTEM) a duse the other cord in either plug then as the smart booster takes over the as a command station adding more throttles is now that easy, good review and nice setup demonstration....Thanks for sharing😃

Got mine last week. Looking to upgrade an existing DC layout to DCC. I want to do consist and have trains running in different directions on the same track, and the only way to do that is with DCC. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the wiring the bus :). DC wiring is much simpler with Kato N-Scale. You only need to worry about voltage drop and adding feeders in strategic locations combats that easily.

Nice review James but a few comments First I found that little plug for the track power was not large enough for my 14 ga buss wire, so I soldered 18ga ends. Second at some point you are going to have to mount the PCP somewhere it can’t just hang loose.

I also have the NCE Power Cab. Have had it for 4 years now. I bought mine from Walthers sale catalog 4 years ago. It was listed at $149.95. Haven't dived into all of the functions except consisting 3 locos together. I'm going to have to play it more. I just bought the SB5. The SB5 allows you to unplug from one panel to another and your train won't stop. So I bought 2 more panels as well. Now I'll have 1 panel in north yard, 1 panel in the middle yard and 1 panel in south yard. I love it. Way easier to control than a Digitrax. A very good review, James.

According to the manual it's supposed to be good for 4x HO scale loco's and 8x N scale loco's. I am curious about the 2 pin track wire connector - there's no mention of what wire goes into what side so will assume if you do it wrong then the loco will simply go into reverse when set for forward ??

Sorry James your wrong about the recall button. The recall button let's you jump from train to train. You can actually run up to five different trains by setting up your recall from 1 to 5 in some cases 6, yes you can operate more than one train with the NCE Power Cab. You are also wrong about the number of locomotives that can ran even in a consist. I've actually seen this starter system handle more than 6 sound units. As for consisting I've never seen anything like it, being able to consist 6 locomotives in under 2min. and braking up the consist under 30sec. James I really recmmend you to play with it a little bit more. Now power it is a 2amp system that can be easily upgraded to a 5amp system by adding the SB5 for around the mid $160. I've seen Digitraxx guys defect to the NCE because of with it offers for train operations. Don't get me wrong the Digitraxx system is a nice system but NCE to me is a way better unit, and also you can upgrade it to wireless.
