Pete: As always, you cut to the chase and give us just what we want to know. Thank you.
I cant say enough about this album. The music is beautifully and meticulously composed while also feeling loose and even improvisational at times. The musicians on this record are also top notch
Nice review of this new Larks reissue Pete. I picked this up after seeing Davy's review of it. For me there was enough "new" stuff to warrant a purchase. I've liked what Steven Wilson has remixed. It's fun to hear an album in a new light or new angle.
I picked it up a couple of months ago when Davey went into it, either on his channel or Curse Of Collector. The elemental mixes, and getting all the studio stuff but not the live is what hooked me. I cant afford those 30 discers!
Thanks Pete. Also my favorite King Crimson album. How many do we need is a good question. Presently I am more than content with my Steven Wilson vinyl reissue.

That's the edition I want.
You're selling this to me Pete. Will have to pick this up. And apparently Fripp is a sweet, patient and empathic guy to work with 😂
I'm happy with my copy of Larks. I do collect a few of the live DVDs and CDs from different periods of Crimson.
I wasn’t going to buy this particular release, but the way you have described it, I might have to go buy it. Thanks for the review Pete.
My favorite King album also....for those into this type music but ate not familiar with it,give it s listen, well worth it..
Thank you for the sonic overview Pete, definitely need to get this one.
Worth having for the cd elemental mixes alone. This is great!
I'm sticking with my 40th anniversary editions. Interesting that they did "elemental mixes". Those(as well as stereo remixes) were done for the John Lennon albums Plastic Ono Band and Imagine for their current reissues. Interestingly, we have Jamie Muir to thank or blame(depends on where you fall) for Tales From Topographic Oceans. He gave Jon Anderson the book that provided the inspiration at Bill Bruford's wedding
My favorite KC studio album. 😊❤
This seems like a smaller version of the 15 disc Larks’ box set which came out in 2012. Do you have that one?
I narrowly prefer "Red" but this is a great album. I already have the original vinyl and one remix, but the problem I have is that I don't possess a blue ray player, but the rest sounds very interesting.
Another reissue? Are they having a lark?
Have they raised the volume on the intro to track one as I need it turned right up to hear it but then the good stuff comes on and my brain shoots out of my ear then pop back in when the violin starts?
I have found I prefer the Wilson mixes on CD. I have a decent system, I suspect audiophile high end systems are required to get the full benefit.

I've yet to hear a Hack Wilson remix that improves the original. But my system is hardly high end.

@sunsin1592 I do think Aqualung is a stunning remix by Wilson. It actually sounds vibrant, not dry and distant. I feel like that one alone proves his ability in this regard. I want to add, I think this whole remix remastering thing is very, very snake oil to some degree. If new material is provided in a repackaging fine.
First (and for most)
Have you ever reviewed the outstanding catalog one of America's greatest bands, R.E.M.?

Nope, and I don't plan on it...NOT a fan.
More unnecessary releases. The OG UK vinyl is one of the best sounding albums I've ever heard. But sure remix and remaster it for no reason every 10 years.
Just another money spinner. How many versions do you need ?
The bloated cash grab reissues from these legacy bands have really gotten out of hand. Unless you're getting a bunch of actual new material, I seldom find them worth owning. Of course if you don't have an original version, maybe it's worth it. If it's Hack Wilson, the sound won't be improved.

You think Steven Wilson isn’t a good producer i know little about actual audio stuff but his mixes don’t sounds bad to me that’s for sure

Steven Wilson's Yes work is the definitive versions of those albums.

I have most of the KC catalogue in the 40th high-res remixes . But....I have larks in the "old" 30th anniversary remaster...and it sounds pretty good. KC albums were already pretty well recorded and mixed from the get go. It can be improved maybe but it's ultimately a matter of preference. Most importantly, my favourite album(s) from that era are the live recordings. The Night Watch. Absolutely essential, sounds great. Prefer the kinda darker sound, less fatiguing.
