Very interesting to see these. I may have had that last one at some point because I had a knockoff with an opening hood and engine that I tried to get my larger Mego Bo and Luke into but the car, while being bigger than my Mego, just wasn't quite big enough...

Hell, as a kid I would've loved to have that last one.

Some of the rip offs have a good value with collectors.

Love this guy's attitude, sounds so disgusted by all these cars lol. I was dying. At least they were all made in U.S.A.!!!

I would have got the last one, taken the decals off, and print out new ones and put them where they belong

The general Lee knock offs were endless just when you think you've seen them all you'll discover 20 more . Even Hot wheels ripped it off

I had that first one,to me it looks like a 69 GTO

I have the first one . But still love to get my hands on the rest of them. I don't recall the others except for the last one .

When I was a kid, none of these cheap GLs lasted more than two days. They lived a short brutal life jumping down concrete steps :)

I had the last one too, actually we had three of them, one for each of us boys. It at least looked like a 69 Charger. My father found it in a toy store in Manhattan. All my friends wanted one, and they got the money from there parents, and my Dad brought them home one too

The last one is finaly a dodge charger!

I totally accept that these rip-offs are awful but I'd love to own all of them. They'd be pretty rare now

I currently have two of the Mego cars. I have been thinking of altering the wheels of one to try and make them a little more aesthetic.

I own one where the paint got worn off and it is the parts holding the top to the hood is broken but still in good shape for being 30 years old

It's funny, the General that actually looks like the General belonged to me at some point. It was way nicer with the figures than the Mego lemon. Mego actually nailed the design on Boss's Cadillac pretty well. That's one I regret selling and I'm trying my damnedest to find one MIB! A mint sealed one can go upwards of $450.

actually two of the vehicles in this review were mine growing up... the Mego General Lee and the Ford Pinto with the 10 on the doors... the other two i found at toy shows/flea markets... glad you enjoyed the video and good luck in your quest!

The Gay Toys Inc. actually made a second version of that was closer to a Dodge Charger (but still not looking like a Charger) with its front and back painted black. And they still used the "10" on the doors. I picked one up at a car show for $1, just because I never seen a knock-off toy like it before (one of the door stickers had come off but was in the cab, and the rebel flag on the top had long since come off and was gone). After looking around online, I found a New York Times article from 1981 that talks about a lawsuit against Gay Toys Inc. for releasing a rip-off toy into stores. I'm thinking that the Pinto version you have is actually the second version, which would make sense that they would change the vehicle in order to avoid the lawsuit.

The 1 you speak of was the 1st knock-off I saw. A kid brought it to school, my grandma got me one a week later. "Yay !!!" A year later, I received the Pinto General, along with a version of Daisy's Jeep. Even as a kid, I thought it odd they used a Pinto. The last one, I purchased at Roses's and thought it was the best one. Saw versions done up as blue cop cars or red fire chief cars. Think I saw one in white. I still have the Mego version with Bo and Luke. Had a friend make up new decals for it and it looks great. I thought it looked a bit strange too, but at that age, if it was even somewhat related to "Dukes" I was all over it.

What MEGO should had done was made the last Charger you had in your hands / review! That looks more like the 69 Charger more so than the 71, 2, or 3 Charger they made for the General. lol Even had the 10 spoke turbine American Racing rims! :-O I've seen that one ( the last General Lee Charger knock-off ) on ebay a few times. I'd love to buy it and do it up to how I would make my General Lee look like if I ever have another one. Yes, had one & sold it, i'm kicking myself for doing so. lol I'd remove those factory confed. flag decals from the doors, put the 01s there, & do a twist for the roof, no flag, but a slanted 01 like true Nascar stock cars have.

I actually had the last GL rip off too. Actually I had 2 of them. They used to be available at Woolworth and the GL lookalike wasn't the only one they had too. I remember there being other "Chargers" in other colors too. It was a rip off but I had more fun with that than the Mego version my neighbor had.

***** what's the quality on these knockoffs are they cheap and easy to break like other Chinese and Korean knockoffs or sturdy like a real toy?

Nice collection. The last car was in a lawsuit between Warner Brothers and Processed Plastic Co. Processed lost the case and had to stop making it. Google Warner Brothers vs Processed Plastic for more info. I had a blue police 69 Charger from Processed it was identical to the General but had police lights.

there was a set called the rebel by buddy l as well. those were diecast though

It's kinda sad that the knockoffs look better than the official model, especially that last one. The Mego General Lee just looks like a generic muscle car with a 69 Charger's front end slapped on it.

I definitely had and still have the MEGO General Lee with Bo and Luke figures. I always wanted the truer looking Dodge Charger with the confederate flags on the doors. That car had the potential to fit the small MEGO figures. I remember in grade school seeing a kid with what I thought was a General Lee big enough to fit the 8 inch MEGO Dukes of Hazzard figures, but the numbers on the doors said 10 instead of 01. That Pinto must have been it. I'm glad I never got it. It's just too bad that MEGO never made a General Lee big enough for the 8 inch Dukes figures.

I had all these but the 2nd one. I didn't get the official one until later because we couldn't find it.

I had the last one when i was a kid. Got it from DOTS dime store was on corner of Michigan ave and Central in Detroit.

The last one isn’t bad....for kids of the time that would have been as good as gold. As for the Pinto...someone at that factory had a sick sense of humor. Just what Hazzard County needed...an airborn bomb!

They put the distributor in the correct place on the engine of the charger.

The first one on the left at The start of the video could be customized into a nice one.

My mom had the figures for the first car u showed I have it now but no figures and the general lee name and flag is gone only the 01 gone

I mean it only has the 01 left

I think someone was drunk.

these are collectible now because of the controversy over the battle flag which was never a problem when the show was on the air

They have been a collectable among Dukes of Hazzard fans and collectors. The flag controversy had nothing to do with it.

True, the flag controversy may have spiked the sales of Dukes of Hazzard items, however, Dukes of Hazzard items have always been and still sought after for collecting. Even if the flag controversy wasn't there.

eBay has stickers for model cars but if you go into a store like target or something there is nothing with the confederate flag

I think it's fascinating that the knock off Charger is far more accurate than the licensed product.

they could have made a better charger this was like Hong Kong plastic I herd they broke easy .
