I have mine paired with a $190 SMSL A300 integrated amp and they are way better than they should be for $75.

Hi, what front end did you use with these? and how many hours were on them before you did a critical analysis. I'm asking, because I have their bigger brother, the Dayton Audio MK442T mini tower. I'm finding these to need a good running in. I'm very impressed with them on all music I've listen to so far and they keep opening up a little more everyday. I've maybe 12 hours on them so far. They're quite something...

I used my AVR a Yamaha TSR-700 as a ADCOM GFA-5500 with a Schiit bi-frost as the DAC and a Pass labs clone preamp. I had the speakers for a few months before I did my critical listening, with likely 25+ hours in them. I think they do really well for a small size room or when listening volumes are at a moderate level (70-80dB) before the woofers start to run out of gas. I’ve started my break in in their latest offering the MK602X so stay tuned for that review coming out soon.

Great review! I want to know will it be worth stuffing these with 2.1 set up, fosi BT20a PRO - 8" from the wall?

I honestly can’t recommend these speakers, they are too crunchy and just don’t sound right to me. If you like a really spicy speaker you might enjoy it, but for me it’s a bit too rough around the edges.

Would you recommend this over the micca mb42x for use as a surround speaker? They seem to be very similar

  • @OHMAudioChannel

Yes absolutely. The MB42X response is for a lack of a better term, a hot mess plus the MK42X has better bass extension which will allow it to blend in and integrate into your subwoofer better than the Micca.

This one is 4ohm impedance. I have Logitech Z906 can I use dayaton audio speakers directly? Or do I need an amplifier... Please help me. (My two satellite speakers, surround foam has torn, so replacing it with MK402x)

  • @OHMAudioChannel

If I remember correctly the amplifier is built into the subwoofer of the Z906 so this should work for replacement of your Satellite speakers. If the speaker wire of the Logitech satellite are attached to the speakers, then you’ll need to get a hold of some speaker wire, won’t anything fancy just some 18 or 16 set would more than sufficient.

@@OHMAudioChannel yes it has some class D amplifier, but in manual it's quoted as -Subwoofer: 165 watts (6 ohms, at 52 Hz, at 10% THD) - Satellites: 335 watts RMS (5 x 67 watts per channel {4 ohms at 3.85kHz, at 10% THD -nominal impedance 8 ohms This speaker has 6 ohm impedance So I got feared that I might burn the coil or amplifier circuit due to missmatch of impedance.

@@shreeenath Typically a “6 ohm” speaker will dip down to a low as 4 ohms in the woofer. With the MK402X not going below 4 ohms I I think you’ll be okay to use it as substitute. If I had a Z609 I could verify how the impedance measures on the satellites and see if it similar to the MK402X.

@@OHMAudioChannel connected Dayton to Logitech powered subwoofer. Since it's smaller (40 watt RMS) compared to 67watt RMS. sounds little. It won't be good enough for Front L&R. will use it as rear L&R.

Just a silly question, but why 4 ohms? Not meant for a mid tier AVR.

  • @OHMAudioChannel

Depending on the power supply and amplifier stage of the AVR, running a lower impedance speaker could cause issues with overheating or loss of dynamics. Most AVRs can play 4 ohm speakers, but your entry level ones are more likely to run into power limitations if pushed hard vs a mid to upper tier one. For clarification I’d consider mid tier to start around the $1k USD mark.

@@OHMAudioChannel If someone spends a grand on an amp, I doubt they need to pair it with "budget speakers", Doesn't make sense to me.

@@2869may I’d agree with you on that,. I was using a generalization that budget AVRs could have trouble properly running lower impedance speakers due to their smaller power supplies. If you’re spending $1000 on a multi channel amplifier or even a 2 channel receiver, this becomes less of a concern for sure.

These cheap Dayton speakers are not worth buying. Besides the low power rating, they don't sound good compared to speakers that cost a little more. The Dayton powered subwoofer is worhtwhile.

Well what sounds good everyone is subjective. For their size, cost and with special consideration for their lower power and output capability, I think they are worth a look. I agree though their subwoofers are decent value.
