Once again thank you for your outstanding video. I watch all your content. I am a real-world crj pilot. I flew for Skywest Airlines here in the United States for 16 years until I lost my flight Medical. I have around 15,000 hours in the crj-200, 700, 900 aircraft. I have owned the Aerosoft crj since its release. I would say that it is very very good. Almost study level. The system's for the most part work exactly as they do in the airplane and the FMS software is almost identical to what my airline has used. I would say that the pmdg Boeing 737 is One Step Above This aircraft in the SIM. But the airsoft crj is definitely worth the money and fun to fly.

Very happy to hear a real life CRJ driver likes the Aerosoft version! Sorry to hear about your medical. I can only agree, the PMDG 737 is of course a level up from the Aerosoft CRJ, but then again Aerosoft doesn't mean to try and compete with the 737, but is specifically looking for a different market than PMDG. The CRJ is a very nice plane, it does what it's supposed to do and for those things that still need some improvement, like LNAV, they did promise an update after Hans is finished with the ATR.

Would you be open in telling me why you were not cleared medically anymore, and if you would still want to do everything the same way again if you could? Also, what are your thoughts on the sounds of the crj? Does it sound like that in real life too?

This is exactly the video I have been wanting to see. As the "Other" Regional Jet is not an option for me at this time, I may have to reconsider this. I had refused to purchase this product at release due to all the bugs and Aerosoft's history of being slow to fix bugs, if at all. Now to watch the video and get Emi's recommendation or not. Thanks for the quality content as always.

@@A330Driver After watching the entire video I noticed Emi's frequent use of "X feature or bug is coming in the next update according to the developers". This is from Aerosoft that is known to take ages for updates. I believe I will hold off on purchasing this product until Aerosoft actually makes good on those promises. With the other RJ being in its current state this is a perfect opportunity for Aerosoft to jump in and actually do what they say they are going to. This would go a long ways towards earning back my trust and perhaps that of the community.

I love the CRJ by Aerosoft. Fantastic plane. And by the way, simbrief flight plans CAN be entered in currently. You export for the CRJ and then put the full name in the route field in the FMS (so for example KPDXCYVR for Portland to Vancouver).

People generally tend to no longer accept exporting a saved flightplan file as "simbrief import". Just see how much the 737 gets torpedoed for "not being able to import simbrief". What I meant in the vid is that you can not directly import from simbrief, you can only do it via saving local files and then only the route, not performance data, etc.

love that you did this! i have been flying the CRJ quite a bit lately and I do really enjoy it, but the buggy FMS just got the better of me, and the autopilot has a really hard time capturing/following a course (you'll just snake back and forth forever), I don't know if this is inherent in the real aircraft or not but I would imagine not to this extent. The biggest pain for me was when changing landing directions as you would have to go in and manually delete all the left over fixes and/or add the ones it didn't add. It does work great with the thrustmaster airbus throttle however it is super sensitive and has a lot of creep in it so that you are always having to make really fine adjustments. The boeing throttle from TM, I just don't like how it feels especially how they model the reverse thrust. It makes me really sad that the dev is putting off updating this as it HAS been out for quite some time. And as I am excited for the ATR (hopefully will be as good as the INI A310), I believe a lot of developers are guilty of making something just good enough and never flesh out issues. Even PMDG did this with the JS41, I loved that plane.. would love to see it in msfs. With all that said I still love the CRJ and I'm sure I"ll get back to flying her after a short break.. I highly recommend it!!

One thing I found useful with the FMS keypad was configuring a quickview for that so the speedbrake lever does not interfere with the keys. It's not an Airbus nor a Boeing and as such it is pretty unique in current aircraft. You cant just sit down and recognize half of the cockpit from other types. One thing I found is that it always looks new and factory fresh. The planes you see will have done thousands of cycles. That doesn't reflect at all. But you can see the love and dedication that went into it. Fair review. Btw. I'm learning ATR systems 😉

This was the first high-fidelity plane (bundle) launched for MSFS, and the closest we had to "study-level" until we got the PMDG and Fenix that set the bar what really can be achieved. I bought this bundle back then, but never really liked flying it. I went with FBW a32nx instead, until Fenix was launched. Can't really remember this plane ever being updated much after the launch, though.

It takes some time, but Ive created single page checklist to get me from cold/dark to taxi. I do this foe each plane so when I havent been in a particular plane for awhile I have a quick reference. To keep the list down to one page I dont perform alarm tests etc, just actual preflight checklist. I also just show Flight Plan, without the steps necessary to complete as Ive already studied the aircraft. Basically the checklist includes Pre-Flight, F-Plan, APU, Final Prep, Engine Start, Taxi. When possible I keep the sequence the same for every aircraft, despite where the switch location may be.

One concern I have about the CRJ... the screens are so small that maximum resolution settings are probably a must-have. I'm used to a lower res that fits my 1080p monitor, and with that am used to slightly blurry gauges. It's fine with the PMDG, Leonardo MD82, and many other birds; there's a little blurriness but it's not distracting. But I suspect it would "break" the poor CRJ by making those small, text-dense screens unreadable at normal FOVs.

I purchased the bundle at launch, and it's been a good sardine-class regional to fly. I would agree with your fair assessment of the plane. Does it have an in-depth failure system and flushing toilets? No, but it also doesn't promise that. Does it still have some nav isssues/bugs? Yes, but at least you have a functioning system that can be used as it's normally flown

  • @A330Driver

yeah, it has some issues with the nav system, but overall it gets you where you want to go and you *can* do quite a bit of FMC magic with it as well. All I need. Honestly, how many simmers really use failures anyway? I certainly only do when preparing for my next recurrent sim to revise some memory items or when creating videos for you guys. Apart from that... never touch them.

When I wanna do a quick flight on vatsim in the evening and only have time for a 30-45min flight (plus preparations, taxi etc) I love to fly this plane. Fun to fly manually, easy to use yet complete enough for standard operations, and even if I haven't flown for a few weeks I instantly know how it works. Plus, it was the only option apart from the FBW A320 for quite a long time (until MD80, 737, Bae146 etc came out) so for me who enjoys the variety of this game, it was a great purchase. It's also great for vatsim beginners since it's still not as big as the A320, so a bit easier to work with imo when you're getting used to the procedures, I went from the TBM to the CJ4 to this to now mostly flying the A320, 737 and A330 on vatsim.

The difference in quality and completeness between this and the E175 is enormous. To be fair the Embraer E-jets are more advanced and complex than the CRJ, where you have no autothrottle, no autobrakes and only advisory VNAV. But today flying the E175 or the Aerosoft CRJ is a totally different experience, meaning the second one is flyable.

Trouble is though, I never really fly them due to the fact I am addicted to that damn 737😅 This is a pretty off topic question but how much does the yaw damper help? I quiet like the CRJ in MSFS for flying even on VATSIM. But I really don't like the autopilot turning in nav mode and at least for me the intercept of the loc is so bad that I prefer to fly my approach completely manually. Another annoying quirk is pressing some of the buttons, the workaround with right-click then left-click works but other airplanes don't a workaround for that.

NAV Mode is something that's due for an overhaul once the ATR is released. I remember talking to Hans about that double click issue on the buttons, I do recall it was due to an Asobo bug. But that was at Sim Update 5 or something, so I guess chances are we saw a change in the meantime. Be sure to bring it to the developers attention again so that we see it revisited with the big update once Hans is done with the ATR.

Thanks for this extensive video. Just what I needed at this point as a guidance on how to spend my money when expanding my airplane fleet. As I most of the time like to fly regional/commuter routes I've been hoping that more regional jet/turboprops would come to the sim. I've been reluctant to buy the CRJ-series knowing that the E-jet series were in the pipeline. Well, that project did'nt come out as expected so I will now pick up the CRJ instead. Also hoping that an ATR will be out soon, which together with the BAe-146 (lovely airplane. With no FMS activaded of course 🙂) and the upcoming RJ-serie would satisfy my aircraft need for quite some time ahead. Btw, could you or someone else shed some light on what the CRJ 900/1000 expansion brings to the flying experience (apart from size, loading capacity, performance, etc.) compared to the 550/700 pack? Is it for example the same cockpit environment? I find it hard to find enought guidance on this in the product description. Thanks in advance.

The ATR will come in March from Microsoft. They contracted the same developer who did the CRJ (Hans Hartmann) and previously the Flight1 ATR. I'm sure it'll be a good one! I fly it a lot to do operations out of my home town where we only get CRJ’s. In this plane, you can do nearly everything for normal operations and you’re able to follow real world checklists and everything works. It ofc won’t be as good as the PMDG and fenix as the cockpit texturing isn’t the best but it’s still an awesome plane to fly. Also worth noting that out of all addon planes I currently own (PMDG, fenix, fbw a32n, headwind a339), this plane by far runs the best. I get quite high fps of over 60.

Note I haven't started the video and I am going to share my opinion before Emi shares his. The CRJ is a functional plane and vatsim ready (in my opinion) to get that out of the way, however Aerosoft themselves after a certain time period abandon their products. I have tried time and time again to get attention to bugs on the forums and the community doesn't really care what you think. Aerosoft doesn't put out updates except when absolutely necessary and I have only seen one and that was for ONE SU. That's it. Fun plane from time to time but Aerosoft kind of abandons it and they don't really care about it much anymore. I have reported bugs of the knob sounds being screwed up where the sound plays like every whole 180 degree rotation of the altitude bug on the mcp and all other knobs and they didn't care about that. (I'm no developer but this can't be too hard of a fix, correct me if I'm wrong). I believe the battery switch when turned on should make the rumbling sound the first time and not just the second time you turn it on (it used to work the first flick, but now it won't play any sound on the first flick to on). Navdata is fine with navigraph although it is hard when you need to change SIDs or STARs as they literally overlap each other and won't replace the original one and everything becomes a mess especially on vatsim. I asked them about this and they said they really couldn't do anything about it. If you really really like CRJs, I guess go for it? Just buy a 737 from PMDG and you will probably be a little more satisfied 😉. (Note this was again all my opinion before the video started)

Hi Wqffle, thanks for the detailed post! Have to agree with the most part of them, however let me proivde a bit of insight: Development on the CRJ has always been slow as it is a single developers project. After the CRJ was released and brough to the point where it currently is (where it is well flyable) the developer had to move on to the ATR for Microsoft as that one has a fixed schedule. Once the ATR is out then will revisit the CRJ and implement more features and fix bugs. Is it perfect? Certainly no. Is it good? Yes. Does it do what is advertised? Absolutely.

No, simbrief can export the CRJs flightplan formart, but nowadays when talking about simbrief import people generally mean a direct import without saving any local files, etc. Also it's only the route, not the performance. To be fair though, the real CRJ probably can't import performance either... but the same is the case with the 737s I fly and yet people say it's sh*t because it can't import simbrief. Well, can't have it all I guess ;-)

Worth mentioning that Aerosoft's philosophy is that they simulate the everyday life of a pilot, and they tend to not simulate the things that are not part of everyday life. If the pilot can't do anything about it and wouldn't normally experience it, it's probably not there. I'm fine with that, YMMV.

I like the CRJ and at was certainly very happy to finally have a decent jet when it was released. However, it is sad to see that it has mostly been abandoned with many bugs and quirks that still haven’t been and probably never will be addressed. So the level of support is not even close to PMDG and Fenix, who keep improving their products. The CRJ is more or less abandonware at this point.

There are some airports that don't on all flights (like KCLT) but the majority do. I remember on your 737 videos you talked about using both the forward and aft doors to board faster. Now that would be strange, I've never seen that before on a 737. The only places I've been that used stairs and busses has been Narita , and Jeddah.

It’s not game breaking bugs, from what I personally have experienced but little things that you would think would have been ironed out this far after release from an already established company. To name a few in addition to the bugs discussed in the video, Direct-to function still causes issues with the flight plan. Nosewheel still moves 1:1 with rudder pedal inputs despite Aerosoft putting in a selection to separate the two meaning nosewheel should only move a few degrees with rudder pedal inputs. Editing waypoints causes numerous issues some people have it freezing the aircraft/sim. Minimums callout missing when using MDA vs DH etc….

Hi Thomas, to be honest, I'm not sure which issue with the knob you mean. It works perfectly fine. Just to be sure: You are not trying to set the DH instead of the MDA, right? If it wasn't your stream software then check your add-on scenery as to why it got so stuttery towards the end. A good test is go into the market place in the SIM, and go to airports. If you see the world map but no airports on it, you have bad a scenery that is causing lags. I had this problem for months, drove me crazy. Then in an unexpected email with a scenery Dev, I discovered the issue. It took a while to find the scenery which was in Europe but affected the West coast of the USA. It was a payware scenery too! Anyway not seeing airports on the map on the in the insim market place, I'm am not talking about the world map I mean the map in the market place that shows airports for sale .. if you don't see anything on that map chances are you have a bad scenery that will cause the issue you had.

Please please for people considering buying this if you haven’t already-you must. It is a superb little bird to fly and fly you have to. Bought this from the start and it does everything it should with ease and once you get the hang of the CRJ you will love it. Systems are fantastic, it interrogates really well with simbrief so don’t know where you’re getting that info that it doesn’t. I’ve used it extensively on VATSIM. There is one thing to be mindful of, it does not have an auto throttle so you actually have to watch closely and fly it unlike an A320 or 738 where turn AP and sit back. Love this plane so much. I think the CRJ gets more hate than it deserves; it's largely fun to fly and works reasonably well. However, it offers a poor value proposition compared to similarly-priced aircraft like the Fenix A320 and PMDG 737. Also, the simulation is a lot shallower than you may realize just from watching this review video. Aerosoft claims that they only aim to simulate normal operations (leaving out things like realistic failures). I'm fine with this in theory, but I think they fall far short of delivering on this promise. In my opinion, to simulate normal operations should require the pilot to correctly perform the necessary steps that a real pilot does, and this aircraft does not. For example, you can taxi perfectly without enabling nosewheel steering, and can fly without issues if you forget to turn on your hydraulics. All switches are modeled, but many of them have no real effect.
