Review | 2018 Toyota Camry | Don't Quit the V6

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We take a look at the new Toyota Camry XSE with the V6 to see if they have re-invented the model. Mid-size cars are getting better as companies like Honda and Mazda are turning up the heat with more features, power, and luxury. While prices are up vehicles like the Camry are known for reliability and strong residual value.

    Yeah that's crazy for a Camry. I don't like to follow the crowd at all. For that price it would I have to be a performance vehicle, or a truck. I know you can get the base model a lot cheaper, but I'm a car Enthusiast and nothing says anti car enthusiasts like a Toyota Camry.

    As a 17’ XSE V6 owner, better tires go a long way to helping put the power down. My car just has a CAI and borla catback, and Pilot sport A/S 3+’s help out so much. Also the V6 has some strong acceleration from 50 and 60 mph. Passing power on a two lane road is very nice.

    Only if it could be tuned to get rid of the annoying cut in acceleration in 2nd/3rd; Overall people buy Camrys because they put ya to sleep behind the wheel and it's the "safe" choice for someone that wants something reliable/comfortable to go to their stressed out job/daily routine.

But if I had to choose one of those brands it would be Toyota. But yes some people think they are above Toyota and buy Mercedes and bmw's and go broke trying to keep up the maintenance cost you'll be lucky if they make it 75,000 miles without any issues where Toyota can go 300,000+ without any major issues.

    Thanks for this outstanding review! All was informative with no punches pulled but I especially liked the part where you got the car up on a lift (which I haven't seen in other XSE videos). I'm getting the 2019 XSE with the 2.5L Four but it's good to hear pros and genuine cons on the new Camrys. It is tempting to go with the 3.5L Six but the Four's gas mileage and initial cost are important to me while the power is more than adequate for my purposes. Again, this was a special review, thanks!

    Well I was going to get the XSE but went with the 2019 SE with the 2.5L Four. Just couldn't justify an extra $4000 when the SE has all I need plus its 18" wheels have a softer ride than 19" on the XSE. What a great car it's turned out to be.

    The only possible reason for Turbowski's continued absence: While gently driving his purple PT Cruiser through the Alaskan wilderness, a male moose attempts to mate with the car, mistaking it for a deformed female of the same species. Turbowski is unceremoniously crushed in the ensuing fracas/amorous activity, thus meeting his inevitable, yet easily forseen, end. It was only a matter of time.

Has that Toyota quality of a "I can't put my finger on it" pleasant driving experience and they're seriously pretty good looking cars, especially for a commuter. Plus, it'll run forever since... I've used these features on the 2018 Camry and I can tell you at least from my perspective the most useful is the adaptive cruise control, the lane keep assist will keep you in your lane but you cannot rely on it for a full hands off experience. it will just bounce you off either side of the lane indefinitely, it cannot keep you centered.

    The Mazda 6 looks good, no doubt. But their turbo engines are notorious for burning oil. If you’re leasing or planning to sell within 5 years then the Mazda 6/Accord is good. If not, go naturally aspirated, Camry .

    I have an XSE V6 as well and after watching this video I discovered my rear right passenger side speaker also doesn’t work. Speaking candidly, I love the car. However a few things I’ve noticed after 16k miles is my breaks squeal horrendously and after taking it to the dealership I’m advised they cannot replicate it and 48 hours after leaving the dealership they begin squealing again. Having a brand new car sound worse that a beater disgusts me. Additionally the car rattles in more than one place while driving occasionally. It certainly does not have the build quality of a Lexus however the styling and features were the selling point for me.

    I know this is a super late response but I’ll tell you if you’re still interested. I’m currently driving a 2020 Camry se 4 cyl loaned from the dealership while my scion is being repainted under a factory recall and I gotta say, it’s pretty nice for a daily driver. The power just isn’t quite there, you really can’t even break the tires loose and it’s not going to slam you into the seat. But, if you’re just looking for a fun daily driver, it’s more than enough. The updated 2020 interior is great and the entertainment system with carplay and android auto is really nice. Hope this helped!

    @@carsonwarner3797 Since you're driving the SE and I'm considering getting the 2021 XSE 4-cyl when it comes out.. could you tell me what RPM speeds you're getting at different highway speeds? I found a really specific video someone posted on their V6 XSE going from 55 to 80 in 5mph increments to show what the engine is doing, and I was hoping to compare that to the 4-cyl. Basically his V6 was going 1,600RPM at 70mph and 1,800RPM at 80mph, which is pretty good considering my current car (2018 Corolla SE) does nearly 2,100RPM at 75mph. What kind of gas mileage are you getting too? I'm eager to get the Camry next month or whenever the 2021 is available, but I'm deciding between the 4-cyl and V6 and I'm trying to justify the nearly $5,000 increase for the V6.

  • @carsonwarner3797

    @carsonwarner3797

    tonymagona334 yeah man happy to help! I found that the gas mileage was pretty accurate to what it’s rated. I would get probably 29 or 30 in the city and around 40 on the highway. And as far as the rpm it’s was really amazing it was hardly over 2000 at 80mph! Total cruiser 😍 but if you want to get put back in your seat I say get the v6. The 4 is awesome, it’s enough to satisfy anyone as a daily driver, but nothing exceptional. If you want great performance and impressive gas mileage I say get that v6!

    @@carsonwarner3797 Thanks for that, it really was something I was wondering! Man 40mpg on the highway sounds like a dream 😄 but better is the engine not going over 2k even at 80, that's awesome! I'll probably stick with the 4cyl for the better gas mileage and also cause the V6 would be nearly $5,000 more. That 4cyl is gonna be great when I take trips from Miami to Tampa!
