Do you do the production by yourself? Because this channel puts to shame some big magazines and all of the generic ones like Consumer Reports in that regard. I know all English car review channels on KZread and a few in German and Dutch, but only this one, Jalopnik and Regular Car Reviews give insight from a car lover's point of view, not just stats and/or grotesque visual porn like drifting and racing (which is good, but not unique). Thanks!

Back in high school (mid 90s) we gutted a Volkswagen Scirocco and put in 50hp DC motor, PWM motor controller, and nine deep cycle 12v lead acid batteries. It was for a race sponsored by Virginia Power, so we also removed all the upholstery, added a roll cage, racing seat and harness, etc. The thing I noticed most while driving it was how quiet the car was. You heard every little pebble you drove over. It really made you feel connected to the pavement. I'm excited to see EVs coming into the market place. I hope this trend continues.

a7i20ci7y It is so quiet, and it's crazy how little EVs have evolved since you did that work in school. Its only been the past 8 years since we have seen any real progress.

savagegeese Do you know how they did the brakes? We added a vacuum pump since there wasn't any engine vacuum for the brake booster. It made a god awful noise until it had evacuated the canister that served as our supply of suck (about 30 seconds). Got four or five good stops before the pump would turn back on, IIRC.

  • @savagegeese

a7i20ci7y It appeared they used some nitrogen gas canister/pump for this. It was near/connected to the ABS module. Seemingly silent.

Nice film. In the UK we can have a 7kW charge at home so I can recharge in 5 hours from flat, or 11 hours on a standard domestic plug (240v x 13A, about 3kW). Plus we have plenty of public charge points, not that I really need them. Range is no problem, we've done 900 miles in less than a month, loving the Soul!

Hey Savage I am currently “pun” leasing one for $145 am month(cheap) and it’s winter in the PNW. Put a set of Blizzaks on it. My average miles left on a full charge is down to 70 miles with temps in the 30-45 degree range. My 2014 leaf drove better and had better cargo. The KIA has more passenger room. I’m going back to Leaf or EV Golf. Maybe the Bolt. IDK yet

Chargepoint is the app. Depends on the local energy costs for price but to charge from empty. The battery holds 27Kw and at one charger it was .15 cents per Kw so wound up being about $6 a charge. You get the tax credit when you file taxes at end of year during tax time.

I have like the video, subscribed to your channel and bought a Kia Soul electric. Now that's something you can tell to Kia ;). Anyway I will sell it as soon as the Tesla model 3 comes out, luckily in 2017 or 2018. The key for a brand to sell these cars is a free charging network. If they cannot give to customers that, they will be out of the business.

+savagegeese Ok, got the car today, I live in Oslo, Norway. The car is perfect for me, I drive 10 miles (16 kilometers) to work. What else, is nice and have a "Premium feeling" (I guess for the lack of sound of a normal engine). I was surprised how I did not realize I was doing 60 miles per hour (100 Km/H), just because is so silent. Finally I'm happy that I will no longer burn 60 liter of gas a month (15,8 US gallons).

Love the giggling. Most folks have little concept of how far 100 miles is and even fewer have a concept of how many miles they drive in an average day. These cars were super cheap used in early 2017 ($6k-$8k), but now in 2018 with those prices on the rise it seems folks are coming to terms with their daily use needs coupled with understanding the super cheap operating costs (around $20 to drive 1000 miles).
