If you want to become a muslim, you don't need to become a Malay. But for a person to call himself a Malay (refer to Malaysian constitution 160(2): 1.He must be a Muslim, 2.Fluent in Bahasa Melayu, 3.Living in Malays culture 4.Descendants of Malays.. It's actually harder to become Malay than to become a Muslim. May Allah protect the Malays and keeping us in faith. Alhamdulillah and Thank you Allah for blessing us Malay with Shahadah.

@@andreatia21 Malay by ethnicity and Malay by race is totally different. Yes, you can become Malay by constitution in Malaysia. That is why you see people has Malay in ID but actually has no relation at all. For example Indian descendant but Malay identity. It happened many years ago but not sure now. Tun Mahathir has spoken about this as I recall.

Generasi muda ramai yang tak paham with the stereotype of "if one revert to Islam then they become a Malay" or "Masuk Melayu". This term "Masuk Melayu" was widely used in the 80s, back then ethnics in Malaysia are segregated by belief & ethnicity. Malay have to be Muslim, Chinese dominantly Buddhist, Indian dominantly Hindus. After the formation of Malaysia, the rakyat of various ethnics still living comfortably in their own bubbles, strongly tied to their own traditions, belief and customs. Interactions between ethics were merely on the surface without going deeper to touch about one's convictions and all. And it's kinda taboo to talk about, it's like your religion yours & mine are mine. Changing religion was a big issue back then. With the Islamic ruling that more localize, to some extent when one revert to Islam they ought to adapt Arabic name and all, such act considered like erasing one self from the their family line. Islamic publication is hard to reach non Muslim as it was written in jawi etc. Time flies, Alhamdulillah... nowadays there are many Islamic scholars from different races, Islamic publication printed in various language. Islam is easy to reach people's heart.

I think the problem of dakwah that i've seen is that they focus and aim for people conversion. How can we convert other when we dont have the power to convert or change their view or believe. Only Allah have that power. We should only aim to educate or the correct word..SHARE the knowledge and the truth.. Just deliver the message and let Allah do His part in converting, changing their beliefs or the correct or accurate word i think is ACCEPT them as His muslim servants. Focus on DELIVER THE MESSAGE RATHER THAN CONVERT PEOPLE.

Masha Allah. I just listened to Ustaz Nouman Ali Khan before this video and he talked about 3 types of Muslim during the Prophet days. 1- the pioneers which is the people that accepted Islam in Mekkah and have the highest level of iman because they had to sacrifice a lot of things as Islam was new religion there. 2- regular and hypocrite Muslims which accepted Islam in Madinah. Regular Muslims are the people that accepted Islam because it's okay to be Muslim as Islam is on the rise and they don't have to sacrifice anything. Hypocrite Muslims are the people that accepted Islam so that they can stay relevant mostly leaders/politicians. After hearing stories about reverts in Malaysia I'm starting to see them like the pioneer Muslim back there because of the backlash from their families and communities, the sacrifices and hardships. MashaAllah.. may Allah blessed us all. Amin

brother...alhamdulillah. u came to Islam by strong knowledge and reasons..that's why u can accept islam. how sad most non Muslim in Malaysia still believe that being a Muslim means becoming a Malay..thats totally wrong. i dont blame them, sometimes Malays also cannot differentiate the root of shari'a and our culture, and cannot explain all about it. its assimilate in our daily life and sometimes create misunderstandings. but u brother, understand it so well. alhamdulillah. i hope more will understand after this.

Why we do even need a religion? Imagine you from 1 year of age who does not know who God is up until you are 70 still does not want to know who God is, live? How is that fair to God who choose to create you on this Earth when you dont even acknowledge God's presence? Human grows from babies to adulthood, and in Islam, your faith is only be accounted for when you reach puberty,,thats itself a sign that Allah is All Merciful and All Wise Look at the wisdoms of Allah in the Quran from what is prohibited and what is allowed. You will be amazed. Allah is All Wise and Knowing. You live everyday, you only die once. So choose the best.

I think the misunderstanding comes from the segregation from the times of the British colonial. The races in malaysia mainly malay, chinese and india lives separately from each other. When gov tries to unite the races, the people are so rooted to their culture that mostly stems from the religion want to preserve their culture and avoid getting culture ‘tainted’ with other cultures. There are mixed cultures due to mixed marriages but theres people who strongly want to hold on to their original culture. Hence these segregation makes the stereotype the races with the majority of the religion. People also has this flaw in thinking where our culture is mixed with religion and most really dont know the difference or even try to find the difference.

There's no historical records that Malay were previously Hindus as there's not even any ancient Hindus temples in Malaysia, be it in Peninsular or Borneo, other than a small temple in Kedah Tua. It's a well known fact that native people in Malaysia practiced animism as some of the tribes that still practice exist today.

@@muniramoon1012 by logic, malay claim they existed more than 2000 years. Islam created at 600 AD, which is younger than Buddhism, hinduism and christianity. So what did malay believe before Islam came? or you trying to say before islam there was no malay? I believe Malays practiced hindu culture before Islam comes due to the fact that the ruler was called Raja (a hindu word), and there is no sultan during the time of prophet and his followers after, until 300years later Mahmud of Ghana became the first sultan in history.

I understand why his MIL says he is Malay now. According to Article 160 of the Constitution of Malaysia: the constitution defines malay as one who professes the religion of Islam and habitually practices malay culture and speaks the Malay language. By this definition, people of ethnic Indian, Arab, Chinese, etc. etc. Ad infinitum., claim to be malay, and go on to enjoy the benefits thereof.

This is what makes a person a Malay in Msia - Article 160 . Definition of a Malay The article defines a “Malay” as a person who professes the religion of Islam, habitually speaks the Malay language, and conforms to Malay custom.[1] They should also be a person who is (a) born before Merdeka Day in the Federation or in Singapore or born of parents one of whom was born in the Federation or in Singapore, or is on that day domiciled in the Federation or in Singapore; or (b) the issue of such a person; As a result, Malay citizens who convert out of Islam are no longer considered Malay under the law.
