Three helpful tips that I picked up:1. Use chalk on bar to make sure you lower bar to your chest in the same area every time. 2. Get back higher in the bench, eyes 2-3 inches behind bar then you would for a normal bench press. 3. Wider grip hand placement then normal bench press grip width. Thanks for this video.

The tip about the grip on the unrack is good. I played around with reverse but only volume work. You really have to get the bar to sit as low as possible, but not too low as the bar may pinch your hand. You also need to unrack the bar as vertically as possible as otherwise it will roll back against your thumbs.

I used to throw this in a lot in the early 2000s. It was still rare back then, maybe even new. I'm not sure. But, it was surprisingly a solid movement that I connected with very quickly. Sometimes a weird exercise isn't so weird when you try it. I remember it feeling almost like a dip and a pullover, combined with a press. Great explanation, Janice. I knew a lot about it, but it was never covered to this depth in M&F or anything else I came across back then. Thanks for the vid. I'll plan on insert this back into the program.

It's not the same as pronated grip form. You don't need to arch your back doing reverse grip; in fact, it can make it more difficult. You lower it over the upper abdomen, straight up and down in a vertical line. Arching can't help with that. It's like a supinated punch when you do it correctly; you're driving from an abdominal position with rectus abdominis tight and flat, not a chest position with abdomen stretched. If you tried throwing a supinated punch with your back arched like that, you would fail to generate maximum force. It works the same on bench press.
