Hi, I am your host Siddhartha! I have been an entrepreneur from 2012-2017 building two products AddoDoc and Babygogo. After selling my company to SHEROES, I and my partner Nansi decided to start up again. But we felt unequipped in our skillset in 2018 to build a large company. We had known 0-1 journeys from our startups but lacked the experience of building 1-10 journeys.
Hence was born The Neon Show (Earlier 100x Entrepreneur) to learn from founders and investors, the mindset to scale yourself and your company. This quest still keeps us excited even after 5 years and doing 200+ episodes.
We welcome you to our journey to understand what goes behind building a super successful company. Every episode is done with a very selfish motive, that I and Nansi should come out as a better entrepreneur and professional after absorbing the learnings.

Panel and most of VCs in India seem to not understand (OR understand but doesn’t want to buttress) that Indian VC ecosystem only cares or caters primarily to tech startups- where the returns or success can be seen in short term. Its incredibly challenging to build a non-tech core startup, I’m not blaming entirely the VCs as India doesn’t have supply chain for most of core components, lets take battery tech as one VC pointed out. Designing it can be done by tom dick and harry but to assemble and scale manufacturing, even Tesla is having a hard time. India doesn’t have one single end to end scaled battery components manufacturing capacity as most of raw materials had to shipped from China and we end up buying it directly as a finished product and assemble it and brand it as Make In India, even tata motors just assemble their batteries assembled in you know where, infrastructure or our ports are too weak to handle large, seamless shipments, it’s pain in a$$ to get it delivered from overseas especially core components. Nevertheless, it’s improving but you can’t expect a 20-month journey similar to Figure AI in the US. So VCs and entrepreneurs moving to Blore end up creating wrappers for chat GPT or add AI purple font on their landing page. Very very few Indian companies or startups have global demand.

Fortunate Enough that even if i want to go to the US (for MBA and later on to do a Job and Startup) i can't go due to my Economic Background doesn't support it. But i feel Fortunate and Excited Bcoz India is going to be a 30Trillion$+ Economy by 2054(if it double every decade at 8%CAGR) . And to Ride this wave you need to be present here in India and specifically in Bangalore if somebody want to build big companies like i want. And more excited bcoz I am Coming to Bangalore from July onwards for my 2 year MBA and later on will do Job for 4-5 years in Startups to learn how to Start,Scale a Startup and later on will start my own and will Ride this wave. And when India will become 30T$+ Economy then we Indians will also have large outcomes like Nvidia, Apple, Google, Meta, etc. Very Excited about the Future of India and these Venture Capitalist whom you called today on your Podcast are Boosting my Faith in India & its Bright Future. It was a Great Podcast.

Start up should not be restricted just in tech sector only. India needs massive innovative thinking in managing our cities. These include traffic and waste management, control of excessive use of water, electricity, food etc. These areas are totally ignored. One reason why many promising youngsters leave our country is because our city managers are not qualified to do their jobs. We should fire all the IAS officers who have allowed our cities to rot right infront of their eyes. We only blame our politicians but the real rot stems from our bureaucracy. The bureaucrats are interested in pushing files, delaying decisions and are bothered about their personal benefits rather than professionally managing our cities. Even very small countries with limited resources manage their cities very well. Our city administrators side with the corrupt politicians and influential people to flout rules in the process they also become a party to the poor management of our cities. For example in Bangalore, hundreds of lakes or water reservoirs were encroached upon by the builders with the help of politicians and the bureaucrats managing the city simply looked the other way. Similarly, hundreds of buildings are built illegally and they do not take any action. They only sit in their offices instead of meeting the citizens and understanding and solving their problems. If these bright individuals who return from abroad are able to convince the rulers to make our cities and towns livable, 90% of our bright minds will not leave the country. Most of them leave the country not because of the lack of opportunities but only because our city infrastructure hardly meets even any third world country standards, We should have some innovative startups to make our city administrators work and make them accountable to public.

India is just great for thee elites the top 2%. FOR THE rest of them, there is no water, Delhi has run out of water, Blore has run out of water, what will elites do even if they come back to find that there is no water ? So these elites sit in an ivory tower of their own and keep patting their own backs, keep praising India and the lord who governs it, Im sure if these elites had lived during AurangZeb's times they would say the same , the new leader has made India great. So opportunity is there. for whom ? 2% of India. For the last 10 years Freshers salary has fallen flat in Rupee terms, (Not even in dollar terms). Not to mention 80 crore people still on govt ration. For those 80 crore Indians what has changed ? Go to Ration shop pick up food and walk home, for generations their family routinue has remained the same. All wages are flattening, water bodies are drying. And the elites keep patting their backs about India.

A VC is presenting facts, 1st trillion $ in 55 yrs 2nd trillion $ in 15 yrs 3rd trillion $ in 5 yrs 4 th trillion in 3 yrs India will double its economy every 7 years now, with a modest 7-8% GDP growth rate Do u understand where is it heading, it took 55 years just to build first trillion $, we are rebuilding our nation from scratch, it took time (it is matter of debate though that the time could have been reduced) Coming to your water crisis statement, let me tell you I live in the capital city of a BJP ruled state, I have not faced such issues here, It is a state govt. water management debacle Lastly I will encourage you not to listen these VCs and go to Europe, which is registering negative GDP growth rate or go to USA which is registering 1.5% GDP growth with their motto intact SPEND LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW & no moral obligation for their future generation while the National Debt of USA is now 99% of GDP, in India it is 83% of GDP and we believe in Investing & accumulating wealth for our future generations

The problem US has today we have 100x problem than that always and still today. World has made great empires on back of poor people of India ,The British , The Mugul , The Dutch made themselves rich from misery of Indian poor so much so that India as produced leaders who denounced capital completely like Gandhi. Now again people are going in that direction after many years , I don't doubt the ability of Indians they will able to pull it off but yes it will benifit the few and if a single central government doesn't come to power for long then people will be looted again and the consequences could be anything from further division to political unrest of many decades.

Maybe because all of them worked in US so there care about politics less, but in india which has per capita income, bad global branding, no control on capital/resources like the US. Political stability is foremost. I still think it is going to be important for atleast next 20 years.

The Façade of India's Lofty Economic Ambitions India's relentless drive to boost its GDP and achieve a $5 trillion economy has become a point of national pride. However, a deeper examination of the country's realities reveals a troubling disconnect between the rhetoric and the grim ground truths. While India boasts of its economic prowess, the sobering facts tell a different story. The country ranks a dismal 111th out of 115 nations on the Global Hunger Index, and a meager 145th out of 155 countries in terms of per capita income. Furthermore, India is home to an astounding world's 100 most polluted cities, a stark testament to the country's environmental crisis. Compounding these challenges, malnutrition and food insecurity remain rampant, with a significant portion of the population lacking access to adequate nutrition. Additionally, India leads the world in road accident fatalities, with a staggering 200,000 lives lost on its roads every year. The question then arises: who is truly benefiting from this much-celebrated GDP growth? When over 80 crore Indians are officially classified as living below the poverty line and dependent on government-provided free rations, it becomes evident that the fruits of economic progress are not reaching the masses. This paints a stark picture - one where the narrative of India's rising economic might is overshadowed by the harsh realities of income inequality, public health crises, and environmental degradation. To achieve genuine and inclusive development, the government must shift its priorities, focusing on addressing malnutrition, pollution, road safety, and overall improvement in the standard of living for all citizens, not just the privileged few.
